K2 Composite Sandwich Membrane/Cone: The FOCAL K2 Power 33KX
features a composite sandwich membrane/cone comprising of Kevlar, foam, and a
Kevlar material structure that is rigid, yet light weight, and allows fast bass
response without distortion. This cone structure features a thermoformed,
structural foam central core, coated with an Aramid fiber layer on the front
side and a glass layer on the back side. This hybrid technology significantly
improves membrane rigidity without raising the weight and allows long coil,
distortion free bass even at high levels. This composite sandwich membrane/cone
design offers an extremely rigid structure, improves power handling (400 watts
RMS/800 watts Peak), and has low distortion characteristics.
NBR Surround: The FOCAL K2 Power 33KX features a
long-throw NBR
(Nitrile Butyl Rubber) surround for long excursion, deep bass (30-1000Hz), and added
durability to promote long life.
Copper Voice Coil: The FOCAL K2 Power 33KX features an edge-wound
copper, 4 layer/2.6", dual 2-ohm voice coil on a Kapton former (aluminum) for high
power handling, bass without distortion and impedance flexibility to allow an optimized connection with the amplifier.
Dual 2-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 2-ohm
voice coils that offer flexibility in wiring. When the voice coils are wired in
parallel with each other, the woofer presents a 1-ohm mono load. When the voice
coils are wired in series with each other, the woofer presents an 4-ohm mono
load. In addition, each coil may be connected to a different amplifier channel
and each channel will see a 2-ohm load.
High-Performance Spider: The K2 Power 33KX features a high-performance
spider with integrated braids to form one complete layer. This spider
configuration eliminates wire fatigue, as well as wear-and-tear on the wire.
Multi-Ferrite Magnets: The K2 Power 33KX woofer
utilizes six triple-stacked Ferrite magnets (18 total) to create a powerful
magnetic field to help suppress compression and give better power handling. This
Multi-Ferrite motor assembly allows for greater efficiency (90db), higher power
handling capabilities, and natural cooling of the woofer's voice coil.
Die Cast (Zamak) Vented Basket: The FOCAL
K2 Power 33KX features a vented die-cast Zamak basket which is a rigid, non-magnetic,
and non-resonant frame that provides a strong, reliable structure for the
woofer. The vented basket provides a self-regulated coil cooling
system which allows air to flow freely preventing heat build-up and optimized
reliability and performance consistency.
Spring-Posts: The FOCAL 13" woofer is equipped with a pair of
nickel-plated spring-post speaker terminals for easy connection up to 10AWG wire.
Foam Gasket: The K2 Power 33KX comes supplied with a
self-adhesive foam gasket mounting-ring for better chassis damping and to
prevent air leakage.
Removable Cloth Cover: The K2 Power 33KX woofer comes with a cloth
cover to protect the magnet from scratches or smudging during transport,
handling, and installation. The cloth cover should be removed once the woofer is
installed. The cloth cover is not designed to be placed on the woofer after it
has been installed.
Enclosure Compatibility
Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The FOCAL K2 Power 33KX is
designed to be installed in a sealed box with a volume between 1.06 cu/ft to
1.77 cu/ft. FOCAL recommends a sealed enclosure made out of 3/4" MDF with an
internal volume of 1.41 cu/ft.
