Sennheiser

Our take on the Sennheiser HD 238i

by Dave Bar

Why choose between headphones made for a cell phone or a pair made for great music listening when Sennheiser designed their HD 238i for both? If you have an iPod®, iPhone® or iPad®, you will be especially delighted. These powerful yet lightweight 'phones keep the tunes coming — with realism and clarity — while offering an amazingly comfortable fit. The natural details of your music gets center stage, whether you're being driven to take an air guitar solo or chilling to a smooth jazz beat.

Easy switching between calls and music
A three-button remote control built into the headphone cable lets you conveniently answer and end calls, control the volume of your calls or music, and pause, play, or skip through your songs. You can even take calls on your iPhone hands-free, thanks to an in-line microphone. The mic is specially designed to hone in on your voice so you won't have to worry about surrounding noises drowning you out.

Thoughtful design for comfortable listening
Premium components deliver superior performance and durability. The lightweight and padded headband let you wear the '238i for hours and the single-sided cord resists tangles. You also get a pouch for easy storage and protection.

Highlights:

  • on-ear design with adjustable padded headband
  • Sennheiser's Open-Aire design provides spacious sound and deep bass (open design does not block outside noise)
  • neodymium magnet drivers for natural, detailed sound
  • exchangeable soft foam ear cups for comfortable, long-term wear
  • inline microphone for clear phone conversations
  • remote control/microphone features supported by iPhone 3GS and 4, iPad, and many newer iPods
  • music playback supported by all iPod models
  • built-in 3-button remote control lets you answer and end calls, turn the volume up and down, and control music playback
  • frequency response: 16-23,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 114 dB
  • impedance: 32 ohms
  • total harmonic distortion: less than 0.5%
  • 47" single-sided cord with 3.5mm stereo mini plug
  • sleek black and metallic finish
  • storage pouch included
  • weight: 3.7 oz.
  • warranty: 2 years
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Can't trust glowing reviews

Written By js, Nyc on Tuesday, January 08, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are THE most uncomfortable headphones I have ever tried. The $10 headphones from a dollar store provide much more comfort. I couldn't keep them on even for a few minutes, because of painful pitching and resulting headache. Later, I went back and researched them again and found that most reviewers found them comfortable. So, I tried to use them again and the pain came back immediately. They also look very cheap and the faux leather looks poorly glued to the foam. Don't know if the sound is decent, as they were absolutely impossible to use. To believe they are capable of doing a good job, one has to also believe the reviews that found them comfortable. For me, these are too awful to use for my music. It's is better to save and upgrade to Sennheiser or others. See for yourself self, after all that is the only way. In any case, the market is flooded with headphones in this price range, so chances are, you can find much better quality products out there.
Pros:
None
Cons:
Extremely uncomfortable to use. Poorly made of cheap materials.

Sennheiser HD 238i

Written By Edwin, California on Monday, May 02, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Well made and dignified looking item. The highs and lows is good enough for
music listening. Watching movies with this type of headphone is very exciting too.,
I like it , for the price, we can't go wrong. Remote control is not working totally for
my itouch in order to make it low or high in volume.
