You'll only be able to retain your steering wheel audio controls with a compatible car stereo made by Alpine, Clarion, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, or Sony. No other brands are currently compatible. Check the Details tab to see if steering wheel audio controls are retained in your vehicle.

Installing an aftermarket receiver in many late model GM vehicles means losing the chime that warns the door is open, along with audible safety warnings. Also, your new car stereo will not work with your GM steering wheel audio controls.

The SOOGM-15 GM Class II Data Bus Interface from Crux lets you replace the factory receiver in these vehicles and keep the door chimes, all audible safety warnings, and OnStar functionality in select GM vehicles. You'll also retain the use of your factory steering wheel controls in most vehicles (see the compatibility chart in Details — vehicles that do not retain use of steering wheel controls are marked by an asterisk).

Connect the SOOGM-15 to the wiring harness on your new car stereo, mount the module in a convenient location, and plug it into the existing factory plug. Get the great sound you want, and keep all important safety features intact. The SOOGM-15 adapter works with all GM audio systems, including Premium Bose® . Warranty: 1 year.

Important Note: If you do not use an adapter like this when you replace your factory radio, you will disable the audible warning system in your vehicle. Crutchfield cannot provide a free wiring harness for your vehicle, and we strongly recommend that you use the recommended adapter when replacing this vehicle's factory radio. Failure to do so may result in serious injury or death.

Installation Note: If your vehicle has a factory amplifier, you'll lose fader and balance control with the new car stereo.     GM Class II Harness: The included GM Class II wiring harness features a 16-pin & 4-pin connector which plugs into your vehicle's factory radio harness, plus a 14-pin & 12-pin connector which plugs into the SOOGM-15 interface module. The GM Class II wiring harness also provides the following bare-wire leads which will need to be hardwired to your aftermarket head unit's wiring harness or vehicle wiring.

    Steering Wheel Control Cable: The included GM Class II wiring harness also features also features a steering wheel control output for Alpine, Clarion, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, and Sony aftermarket head units. The steering wheel control output consists of a right-angle 3.5mm connector and a light blue/yellow wire (use the connection that your aftermarket head unit is fitted with). You can then program the SOOGM-15 interface module to control one of the mentioned aftermarket head units, using its rotary dial (0-5).

    Installation Note: For vehicles with factory amplifiers, once you have installed the new aftermarket head unit you will no longer have fader control. Make sure that before removing your factory radio, your system's audio is balanced & faded properly. The factory digital amplifiers will remember these settings even after the factory radio is removed and the new aftermarket head unit is installed.

    I was a little intimidated at first when I opened this up and saw all the wires. After reading the directions once and getting started I realized how easy this product was to install. Anyone with even a little stereo wiring experience with find this very easy to install.

    Install made easy into '04 Avalanche

    Used this adapter to install a Pioneer DEH-X5500HD radio in my '04 Avalanche w/o Bose Sound System. This allowed warning chime system and steering controls to remain. Although I do not use the On-Star system, it would facilitate that as well. I've installed several systems from Crutchfields, but this is the first time utilizing this type of hardware. After opening the boxes and studying the wiring , I had a few questions. I was concerned I might have to contact the manufacturer of this adapter with some of my questions, but the techs at Crutchfields came through and explained everything. After doing the wiring connections on the bench, install into my truck took less than thirty minutes!!! Note, the manufacture of this Adapter also offers free install advice, but Crutchfields had all the answers and explanations I needed.
    Pros:
    Straight forward and simple to install. Keeping my steering wheel controls operational was important to me.
    Cons:
    Fitting the radio, the wiring, and this adapter back into the double-din original radio space was a little difficult. I had to go back in a second time as the plug for the steering controls had dislodged itself while I was fitting everything into the space.

    Although the data sheet says this works on GMC Envoy from 2004-2009 the Crutchfield rep assured me it would work on my 2002 and it did. The only problem I had was with the factory, powered amplified antenna. The instructions say to connect the Blue ant wire from the CRUX harness to the radio ant control wire. There is no Blue wire from the CRUX. A call to Crutchfield found an alternative way to make it work and now it works as it should.

    Although the door chimes work, the volume is very low.

    I can not get any dimmer funtion at all but I believe that is a Kenwood problem, not CRUX. This is with the Kennwood DNX6990HD.
    Pros:
    Lets me retain OnStar and steering wheel controls. Easy installation with the exception noted in the review.
    Cons:
    Wiring diagram shows a wire that is not there. Required a knowledable Crutchfield tech to assist me. Low door chime volume.

    The instruction manual and the wire coding on the unit itself are somewhat confusing and contradictory. I was confused on making the proper illumination and parking break connections, eventually figuring it out. after a couple of rewires, in my 2004 Chevy Avalanche. I use the recommended setting for Pioneer, but the alarm for door open is not very loud and may have quit all together.
    Pros:
    Nice direct wiring install.
    Cons:
    Confusing wiring directions and low sounding to no sounding alarm.

    I have successfully installed this unit in my 2007 Classic Chevy Sliverado Crew Cab with PIONEER AVH-P3400BH receiver and factory Bose 7 Speaker system, No Onstar, and steering wheel controls. Crutchfield tech support is excellent and very knowledgeable with their product and the receiver they are interfacing. I had problems with with audio coming out of my speakers and Crutchfield tech support walked me though trouble shooting the problem. As it turned out, I missed the AMP turn on signal from the radio to the Crutchfield Interface which power my Bose Amp. Thank you Crutchfield support Team.

    I successfully installed this integration adapter on my 2004 Chevy Silverado Ext. Cab w/ Bose, Onstar, XM, and Steering wheel controls. The product works just as described. I had been short sited in some of the wiring and their tech support was top notch and helpful. The item is bulky so take your time stuffing it back behind the dash and taping up any loose wires and connections
    Pros:
    Plug and play integration is excellent, only 5 wires to connect yourself in my application, and the 8 stereor wires.
    Cons:
    Instructions were a little confusing, difficult to stuff behind the dash, but this appears to be the same with all brands of this type of device.

    It Works

    This product doesn't have many reviews so I figured I would write one to help others out. I installed this in a 2003 GMC Yukon XL with Bose and Onstar. The product looks a little daunting at first but it really isn't any more difficult than a typical stereo install. I was very pleased that Onstar, steering wheel controls and door chimes all worked without any difficult setup, it's all plug and play. As stated in other reviews I did experience the hissing noise. I believe this is due to the Bose system so if you have Bose I'm assuming you will get the hissing noise. There is a solution for it addressed in the product manual (just need to add some resistors) but I didn't fix it yet. The problem wasn't annoying enough to fix right away but I probably will fix it in the future. The hissing is really only noticeable when the music is at low volumes so I'll live with it for a little while. My only other complaint is the difficulty in setting it up. The included instructions are really confusing so I honestly don't know what I did. There is a little dial that lets you change the Onstar volume AND steering wheel controls and it isn't clear which one you are working with. Overall I am happy with the product and I would buy it again, especially considering it is the cheapest way I found to get a new head unit in my car and keep my steering wheel controls. I hope this review was helpful.

    Works perfectly with my Onstar, SW control and Bose. I was worried at first with the instrucitons as the Onstar did not work when I had just the Crux installed. Once I hooked up the head unit, everything worked perfectly.
    Pros:
    All in one. Wiring instructions were good.
    Cons:
    Not for fault of Crux, but one of the couple of wireless did not match. Blue white to Blue and Red from Pioneer was more like a Red\Orange blend.

    2005 Silverado 2500 Install

    I installed this CRUX unit in my father's 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500 pickup. I paired it with a Kenwood DPX-308U receiver and I'm thrilled with the results. All of the steering wheel controls work as expected, door chimes worked without a hitch and the BOSE system sounds phenomenal. I wasn't aware before the install, but he does not have OnStar so I was unable to test this capability.

    I had a couple of minor questions, and the CRUX tech support team was very easy to reach and very knowledgeable.
    Pros:
    Worked exactly as advertised and is relatively easy to install. Great tech support team and overall a very good product
    Cons:
    One minor nit pick: the control unit is rather large and can be a bit cumbersome to fit behind the new radio.

    GMC 2006 Sierra - Real input

    I just installed this on a 2006 GMC Sierra with the Bose system. The basic results are it worked. Several comments. If you hook up a back up camera like I did you have to go find the input on your vehicle for the reverse lights and also the parking brake. Not easy. The chimes come ouf of a small speaker on the Crux unit and are very soft and hard to hear. If you have a 2004-2006 with the Bose system you have to install the resistors (not included) they have in their instructions as the unit has a lot of hiss in the speakers. You cannot program the steering wheel controls but they do work as they did prior to the install. You do lose your backseat stereo if you have this option.
    Pros:

    Cons:
    Very hard to put all the wires and module into the dash the way they have taped up the wiring harness. Soft sound of chimes that you can't hear if the radio is on driving. No resistors for the radio hiss. Mute wire is very mysterioius and you really don't use it. Have to wire to the reverse and parking inputs somewhere in your vehicle especially if you have a back up camera

    Unit hooked up fine, straight forward ,but ran into a problem with the HU turning of,f tack on,then back on, Crutchfield said it was most likely the Crux, sent it back, got another, same problem .Not convinced it was the problem, but a new HU didn't fix the same problem of random shut down either. SWC worked great, chimes weren't loud at all however. Now, trying the more expensive GMOS.....it is going less well...

    Works well in 2006 GMC SIerra 1500, one issue to note re: Onstar

    This mated right up to my factory harness and my JVC Arsenal head unit. There is quite a bit of stuff (black box and wires) to tuck in the dash, but I had room in my 2006 GMC Sierra 1500. This came with a mini antenna adapter, which is necessary because the antenna plug size in my GMC (maybe all GMs?) does not fit the back of the stereo. I mention this since Crutchfield put an adapter in my cart, but I took it out since the kit comes with one.

    The chimes come out of the black box. They are not as loud as the factory chimes, but I can hear them just fine.

    Even though I do not have Onstar, I bought this to use my steering wheel controls and to keep my chimes. The top leftmost button on my steering wheel has a talking face picture on the button. I've always used it to mute my stereo. This button no longer acts as a mute with this kit. I called CRUX and was told that they did not program in mute functionality for non-Onstar vehicles. I don't know what this button is supposed to do in vehicles with Onstar.

    Do not buy this!!

    Bought this adapter to retain the chimes and steering wheel controls for our 2002 Envoy in August 2012. We noticed right away that the chimes would sometimes be loud, sometimes you couldn't hear them at all. The buzzer built into this unit sounds cheap to begin with. Also, only the volume up and down button on our steering wheel works; the mode change button does not. When the weather started getting below 50 degrees outside we noticed our Envoy would not start and had to be jump started. After we took the adapter out of the vehicle we noticed our Envoy would have no problems starting up even when cold. Of course we have no radio without this harness.

    I like Crutchfield's support on this but I do wish I could exchange it for just a wiring harness. I don't care about chimes or the steering wheel controls.

    I tried calling the manufacturer and their support has been less than helpful and their employees are rude.
    Cons:
    Cheap buzzer for the chimes; the unit we have drains the battery for no reason.

    The Crux SOOGM-15 adaptar was easy to install, and allowed me to keep access to OnStar as well as my steering wheels controls when I upgraded my head unit to a new Kenwood. Programing the volume settings for OnStar was quick and easy. The factory wiring harness plugged in perfectly.
    Pros:
    You get to keep your factory OnStar and Steering wheel contrcols. Easy Install. Much easier than the last steering wheel control kit I added to my Nissan Maxima a couple of years back.
    Cons:
    The one suggested improvement would be to provide access to the factory microphone. You need to have a head unit with a microphone option. This is probably more a limitation of the head unit and how your phone interfaces via bluetooth, however.

    Ordered this so that I could switch my factory radio to an aftermarket JVC. I was a little bit hesitant after reading a couple of earlier reviews, but this was the best priced product I found that would also allow me to keep using the steering wheel controls which is important to me. After a quick and fairly simple install, everything works as promised. Steering wheel controls, Onstar, all factory features all working as they should. Very satisfied with my purchase.
    Pros:
    Inexpensive, simple to install
    Cons:
    Instruction sheet included with the product isn't very easy to follow. I found a video online which was way more helpful.

    After researching differnt interface boxes,This was the only one that I could find that offered steering wheel controls without having to purchase a whole another box.After reading mixed reviews I decided to go ahead and give this one a shot,After checking if it would work both in my vehicle and my new Kenwood headunit.With consulting both the instructions of the interface box and the headunit,wiring up the harness was pretty simple and the connectors matched my vehicle perfectly.So far everything is working as it should with no problems.I gave it four stars because the interface box is quite large and I think it would be a problem for cars with smaller dashs.
    Pros:
    Did what it said it would do.Retained OnStar,Warning Chimes,Steering Wheel Controls.
    Cons:
    Interface box is a little bulky and might be a problem fitting in smaller dashs,But it fit perfectly in my Avalanche.Directions were a little lacking but I had no problems

    So I bought this because it said I would retain my steering wheel controls, I followed and wired everything up. I wired the remote wire to the kenwood receiver and followed the program instructions. No steering controls, looked up the harness and apparently there's a list which specifies what vehicles will not retain the controls. Disappointed that it was listed as a harness that would work and a huge price difference for a feature that did not work.
    Pros:
    On star works, chimes work
    Cons:
    Steering wheel controls only retained on certain vehicles not all, but will still be listed to work on your vehicle.
