Metra

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you don't know how to use a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors that you'll use to attach the Crutchfield harness to your factory harness.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness makes installing your new stereo easier, and allows you to put the factory radio back when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Connections:

  • 12V constant power
  • 12V switched power
  • chassis ground
  • power antenna turn-on
  • dimmer
  • left front speaker +/-
  • right front speaker +/-
  • left rear speaker +/-
  • right rear speaker +/-

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so, then check here for a list of parts. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Features

Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required and sold separately.

Harness was perfect!

Written By MichaelE, Orlando,FL on Monday, April 15, 2013
Installed in a 1997 Volkswagen Cabrio
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not a big DIYer but Crutchfield made it easier.... definately the right part, the perfect harness for a 97 Cabrio. Fit right into the already in there harnesses. They could include (and charge) for the end caps of connecting wires to wires but those were easy to get at local shop.
Pros:
Perfectly the right harness to my Cabiro!
Cons:
Could have included the end caps for connecting wires of the harness to the wires of my new stereo unit. Wires were not an exact "color" match but were close enough that I got it right.

almost but not quite...

Written By jim325ix, Newmarket NH on Tuesday, October 16, 2012
Installed in a 1987 Volkswagen Scirocco
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good enough quality and I appreciate the effort, but it does not fit my car (1987 VW Scirocco 16V). The wiring colors were completely different. Being an antique, I was not surprised and just spliced into the harness as it had been cut in the past. Thanks anyways!
Pros:
Probably workswell when it fits your application, no needto cut the harness connector off.
Cons:
Didn't work on my vehicle.

The only problem was I had to call 4 times to get the correct alternate wiring configuration for my car. But otherwise it was a Perfect fit.
Pros:
Plugged right in
Cons:
It just needed a little bit better way of saying some car might need to use alternate wires.

1994 Land Rover Defender D90

Written By RobM, Phoenix, AZ on Monday, May 21, 2012
Installed in a 1994 Land Rover Defender
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A previous review stated that it didn't fit a 1995 Defender and I almost didn't purchase the harness. I can't speak for the '95 model year, but it fit my 1994 D90 perfectly once the amp was removed.

Works fine

Written By Lou, Italy on Monday, April 02, 2012
Installed in a 2003 Land Rover Discovery
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This works just fine. Not great but just fine. Before installing the head unit harness make sure all of the tabs are secure and the wires are not loose. Also, for those with factory amps, don't forget to connect the blue wire to the trigger
Pros:
The wires are long enough
Cons:
The directions barely cover the basics, completely missing out on some important details

Worked after some fiddling

Written By fch, Palo Alto on Tuesday, January 17, 2012
Installed in a 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It worked as it is supposed to. However, it was noted that certain cars need to change the red and yellow wire. Mine needed that, but was not listed, so it took some trial and error.

Wire harness worked fine though the master sheet said I had to cut my
vehicles original harness into 2 pieces, good thing I didn't and checked to see
if it fit beforehand.

1990 VW corrado

Written By Igorek, CA on Wednesday, January 27, 2010
Installed in a 1990 Volkswagen Corrado
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I contacted Crutchfield and told sales rep that the wire harness i need should be black and red connectors. Red connector was larger then a black connector. He said rest assured I will get you the right kit. And what do you know? I received a wrong kit.
I bought another wire harness kit locally and those guys will not replace it with the correct kit. At least Cratchfield is trying to replace it with the correct kit. Then again i cant say correct until i try it on my car.

Easy!

Written By Michael, Attleboro, Ma on Saturday, February 07, 2009
Installed in a 1995 Volkswagen Jetta III
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Color coded wiring made connecting the harness kit foolproof. I really liked the fact that I could pre-wire the harness before bringing the radio out to the car. I just had to pop the old radio out. Plug the connectors in. and slide the new radio in place.

not for Harmon Kardon system

Written By David, Cape May County, NJ on Saturday, January 17, 2009
Installed in a 1999 Land Rover Discovery
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I specified that i had the HK factory system, and this does not work with it. instead, i had to take the speaker wires coming from the back of it and solder RCA's on them to plug into my aftermarket deck. using just the speaker wires will fry the factory amp.

wrong wiring harness!

Written By Brian, Portland, OR on Thursday, September 18, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This harness was shipped with a JVC head unit. Unfortunately, it does NOT work with a 993 Porsche (1996) with the 8 speaker HI FI stereo option as it does not support the proper speaker connections.

Crutchfield had to ship another wiring harness which I had to modify to work.
