    Features

Overview: The Channel Master 4220MHD antenna is designed for UHF frequencies only (channels 14-69), both digital and analog.

Mast Mounting: The antenna can be mounted using the included standard satellite mast; or it can be mounted to a traditional (straight) antenna mast. The included mast can be mounted on a roof, under an eave, or on a wall.

Mounting Brackets: The antenna mounting brackets and the U-bolt are used to mount the antenna to a mast. The outer diameter of the mast should be at least 1-1/4 inches.

Turning Radius: If using a rotor on the antenna mast, make sure a 12" turning radius around the antenna is clear of obstruction (the 12" turning radius assumes the antenna is mounted to a straight mast).

Grounding: The antenna and mast should be properly grounded. Grounding provides lightning protection for the antenna and your TV set.

Note: No grounding hardware is provided with the antenna.

Connections: The balun is built-in (attached at the factory) and has a female F-type connector. The included waterproof rubber weather boot should be installed over the cable connection to guard against corrosion. A twist-on threaded F-connector is also included.

Note: Coax cable is not provided, RG-6 is recommended.

Operating Range: The rated range of the 4220MHD is 30 miles, but the distance is approximate, actual performance depends on too many variables to predict accurately.

Gain: The average gain across the UHF frequency range is 8.2 dB.

    Clarity, finally!

Written By PeterC, Chapel Hill NC on Wednesday, March 27, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After struggling with amplified indoor antennas to bring in our favorite channel from only 9 miles away, I had this antenna installed on the roof. Measured signal strength went up substantially, and we now have clear reception not only of our favorite channel, but of many located farther away. The installation was straightforward.

    Good Reception

Written By RichR, Kenosha, WI on Tuesday, April 03, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, good reception. Was using a smaller table top antenna manufactured by another company and could receive half as many channels as I can with the Channel Master. I was hesitant to purchase a larger, more expensive model because I did not know how it was going to work. Now that I have this one, I am now wondering if I would be receiving more channels with a better model.
    Pros:
    Worth the money

    Great Reception!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Did a lot of research on antennas so we could lose the rabbit ears on all of our TV sets. Crutchfield had the best quality, best pricing, and quick, no-cost delivery time. After assembling and installing the antenna on the roof, we get 100% crystal clear reception on all channels in our area.
    Pros:
Excellent service and product, free shipping, great support (though I didn't need it)

Very good city reception, but only fair hardware & assembly

Written By 1GRN1, Canton, MI on Saturday, October 02, 2010
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased from Crutchfield because their website provides a wealth of information to allow an informed purchase decision AND their pricing was competitive AND they offered free shipping on this item. As for the antenna, it works great in our area. We edited out some of the 20 OTA HD and non-HD channels and the 2 analog channels from Canada. We'd have more channels with a rotator, but we already get lots of free channels via the internet. We ditched cable TV and are saving about $87/month. The antenna's already paid for itself! My only complaints about this antenna are
    1) the weather boot is IMPOSSIBLE to stretch over the F connector on the coax cable. This should be a piece of heat shrink tubing or be made from an elastomeric compound having more stretch.
    2) Since the antenna is mounted on our apartment balcony, the ends of the mast attachment U-bolts are a safety hazard. No plastic caps were provided to cover the threaded ends. The U-bolts are also several inches longer than they need to be! 3) The fasteners don't appear to be corrosion resistant. The serrated faces of the nuts scratch the mast paint and will probably cause it to rust.

I'd give it 5 stars for city reception but only 1 star because of personal injury hazard and inadequate attention to weather boot material selection and potential corrosion/appearance issues, so overall, only 3 stars

It does the job, should include basic grounding kit. Otherwise was easy to assemble and setup. Well worth the price.

    Great product

Written By David, North West of Boston on Sunday, April 12, 2009

After a long winter I finally got this antenna hooked up. I was shocked at the clarity it produces and the amount of channels it pulls in, all crystal clear. I am about 25 miles from the Wellesley Hills antenna farm on Rt 128. I have a 4-output RF distribution amplifier in line and a digital converter box. The antenna is about 8 feet above my chimney and we are on a large hill. I used 2 pole extension antenna masts and the chimney clamp plus a big spool of RF cable. I ordered all the parts from Crutchfield, great customer service.
