Video: Kenwood DNX5140 and DNX6140 Navigation Receivers
Ken demonstrates how easy life in the car can be with Kenwood's DNX5140 and DNX6140 in-dash receivers. These receivers have a lot to offer with great audio features, intuitive touchscreen controls, and navigation designed by Garmin.
Hi. I'm Ken. I'm here today at the Crutchfield video studios to talk about Kenwood's DNX5140 and DNX6140 navigation receivers. We've got the '5140 here today. They're very similar but the DNX6140 adds built-in Bluetooth®. Now these are a great way to add navigation, video, and touchscreen controls to vehicles that have that larger size stereo opening.
The star feature, of course, is navigation. Kenwood has Garmin do their navigation systems. I've found Garmin systems to be easy to use, fast, and accurate. These have text-to-speech directions so they'll tell you what street to turn on, not just turn right or left, and also there are six million points of interest built in so you shouldn't have any trouble finding essential services when you're on the road.
Now let's take a look here and see how easy it is to use the navigation features with the touchscreen controls. When you're ready to navigate, you can just hit the "NAV" button, then go to your menu, choose "Where To?" and you've got a whole range of options. Let's look for a gas station. "Fuel." "Auto Fuel." And it searches. We'll choose a gas station, and it looks good. We'll go there. It calculates for you. Calculation's done, and it gives you specific instructions on how to get there.
So you can see how the touchscreen controls make using the navigator easy, but the touchscreen controls also make it easy to adjust your audio settings for outstanding sound in your car. Let me show you how it works.
If you want to adjust the EQ, just go to "Audio," choose the equalizer, go to "Tone," and here we've got the bass, mids, and treble. You can change the frequency you want to select and then you can boost it or take it down. Now if you want to go to the next level, you can adjust your high-pass and low-pass filters so your speakers sound their best. Just go to "Setup," "Audio Setup," choose which speakers you want, the front, "Crossover," and just simply select the frequency.
These models feature a wide range of inputs. There's an A/V input on the front. There's also a rear audio/video input. There's a USB input. There's even a rear camera input. There's an A/V output so you can connect back seat monitors too. You can add optional satellite radio or an HD Radio™ tuner or you can add an iPod® adapter.
If you want Bluetooth, you can get an adapter for the 5140, but if you really want Bluetooth, go ahead and get the DNX6140. It's built in and it's actually going to be cheaper than adding the adapter.
