Why would I need an iPod® adapter?

An iPod adapter allows you to connect your iPod to your car stereo, then access your playlists with your stereo's controls - a great idea for several reasons. One, you can scroll through your song titles on your stereo's larger display, instead of squinting down at your iPod. Two, you can route the adapter cable to your glove compartment or center console, so your iPod stays safely out of sight. Three, the iPod adapter keeps your iPod fully charged, so it's ready to rock when you leave your car. And last of all, some adapters bypass your iPod's internal digital-to-analog converter, using your stereo's superior DAC to turn your files back into music.

So you've got a fantastic new car stereo in your dash, but your iPod cable won't reach from the iPod in your center console to its rear USB input. This PAC 6-ft. extension cable features female and male USB ends, and includes a mounting bracket for a permanent installation, so you can set up a convenient spot for plugging in your iPod or thumb drive.

The cable's female USB end provides a flush-mount design for permanent installation — simply drill a hole into the spot where you'd like to connect your USB devices, then snap in the end of the cable for a factory look. If you'd rather not drill a hole, just snap that end of the cable into the included mounting bracket, then place the bracket in a good place for quick access to your USB devices. Warranty: 1 year.

Overview: The PAC 6' USB Extension Cable with Mounting Bracket (part # USBCBL) connects to the rear-panel USB port on the back of your in-dash headunit and provides a convenient connection for your USB memory device.

USB Connectors: The 6' USB extension cable features one male USB (type-A) connector and one female USB (type-A) port. 

  • Male USB (type-A) Connector: The USB extension cable's male USB (type-A) connector plugs into the rear-panel USB (type-A) port of your aftermarket headunit.
  • Female USB (type-A) Port: The USB extension cable's female USB (type-A) port lets you connect your USB flash memory device.

Mounting Options: The PAC 6' USB Extension Cable with Mounting Bracket offers two mounting options.

  • Flush Mount: The female USB (type-A) port of the USB extension cable features a flush mountable design. You can simply drill a 3/4" hole at the desired mounting location and snap the end of the USB extension cable in for an OEM look.
  • Mounting Bracket: The USB extension cables also features a mounting bracket that can be used to mount the USB connector without drilling holes in the vehicle. Just snap the USB extension cable into the bracket and mount it wherever your installation demands.

USB inside the extra pocket in after market mount

My wife suggested mounting it inside the back of the pocket that removing my double DIN factory chassis left. This works GREAT! Now we can charge our cell phones and have a place to hold them. With the Apple iPod or iPhone 5 cable or (my) Micro USB cable from the phone. I can keep the wire securely connected yet out of the way.
Pros:
Works great. Nice tight fit.
Cons:
The cable is pretty long (for my ultra short needs), but nothing a wire tie cannot fix.

The PAC USB Extension Cable work well for what I needed it for. Had to do a little customization to the block to get it to fit where I wanted it. Now it looks like a factory option.

Nice jack and was able to make up in a dash blank to look sweet!
Pros:
Gives a nice factory look, moves USB jack from rear of head unit to dash or glove box.
Cons:
Needs to come in different lengths to avoid masses of wire in dash.

Good fit for vw gti!!! Didnt have to use the stand or drill any holes... Fit right in one of the mid square panel by the ashtray... Just popped it out and put it right in... Looks like it came w/ car... Hehehe... Very happy w/ product... Bought pioneer 8400 w/ it!!!!

This is a great product to add to any aftermarket radio with usb ports in the rear. I bought it also for flush mount and I am very pleased with the finished product. Installed in my gmc Sierra crew cab truck in dash under a/c panel and it looks great.
Pros:
Two options for mounting, I suggest flush mount if you have space. Black Colorado will match most interiors.
Cons:
The flush mount could be a bit tighter fit and you may have to add trim glue or silicone to tighten the fit, minor though.

Just installed this in my wife's `06 Jeep Liberty. It does what it's supposed to do and works very well.
