2.7" Widescreen LCD
Screen: The FS100 features a 2.7" TFT, color widescreen LCD screen (123,000
pixels) to make it easy to compose and review your shots. The bright screen lets
you see exactly what your camcorder is recording, and what your widescreen TV
will display later. You can rotate the LCD screen 90-degrees downward and
180-degrees toward the lens allowing the subject to monitor the LCD screen. The
LCD screen also an adjustable brightness control. The LCD Screen's frame contains zoom, playback and menu controls
for added convenience.
Note: This camcorder does not feature a separate viewfinder.
Flash Memory: The Canon
FS100 camcorder captures video and still-image footage onto an optional SD or
SDHC media card (sold separately). SD and SDHC
memory cards offer quick response time for recording and playback. By recording
onto flash memory cards, the camcorders power consumption rate is reduced,
allowing the battery to last longer. In addition, by using flash memory cards,
the camcorder is more shock resistant and is less likely to loose data because
there are no moving parts. A Class 2 or higher SD (64MB-2GB)/SDHC (4GB-32GB)
card is recommended. Movie recordings require cards with 128 MB of memory or
more.
Image Sensor: The FS100 features a 1/6" (3mm) CCD imager
with 1,070,000 gross pixels. The 410,000 to 710,000 effective video pixels in
16:9 mode and 310,000 to 690,000 pixels in 4:3 mode provide excellent detail and
clarity for exceptional digital video. The 800,000 effective still megapixels in
a 4:3 aspect ratio and 600,000 effective still megapixels in a 16:9 aspect ratio
provide exceptional digital still photography performance The zoom setting
effects the effective pixel count in 16:9 and 4:3 mode.
- 16:9 Movie Mode:
- Advanced Zoom: 410,000 (telephoto) and 710,000
(wide-angle)
- Optical/Digital Zoom: 550,000
- 4:3 Movie Mode:
- Advanced Zoom: 310,000 (telephoto) and 690,000
(wide-angle)
- Optical/Digital Zoom: 690,000
- Still Images (4:3): 800,000
- Still Images (16:9): 600,000
Digic DV II: DIGIC DV II
ensures optimal video image quality. It also ensures optimal image quality for still
images, even though video and still images have different color requirements.
The DIGIC DV ll image processing produces video with improved color
reproduction; especially in skin tones, and dark and light scenes. It also uses
a hybrid noise reduction system that employs two types of noise reduction for
high definition images that are crystal clear. Plus, DIGIC DV ll features
improved continuous shooting of digital photographs with the FS100. You can
shoot five 1152 x 648 still images per second, and enjoy faster processing of your
images to your memory card. It also helps
lower power consumption for longer battery life.
Genuine Canon Video Lens: The FS100 comes with a
Genuine Canon video lens with a 37x Optical
zoom and 2000x total digital zoom. The camcorder offer three types of zoom -
Optical, Advanced and Digital zoom.
- 37x Optical Zoom: The zoom range is limited to the
optical magnification ratio of the lens which is 37x.
- 48x/55x Advanced Zoom: In addition to the optical zoom
range, the camcorder processes the image digitally to obtain a larger zoom
range without any deterioration in image quality.
48x Advanced Zoom is used for 16:9 aspect ratio images, while 55x Advanced
Zoom is used for 4:3 aspect ratio images.
- 2000x Digital Zoom: When this option is selected, the
camcorder will switch to digital zoom. With digital zoom the image is
processed digitally so image quality will deteriorated the more you zoom in.
Note: The zoom speed can be set to variable or one of
three fixed speeds. In the variable position, the zoom speed depends on how
far you push the lever. The purpose of the three fixed zoom speeds is a
smoother zoom transition, at your choice of speeds.
Image Stabilizer: A high quality electronic image
stabilization system corrects camera shake instantly, giving you smooth, stable
pictures. It enables you to record shake-free images, even on long telephoto
shots without a tripod.
16:9 High Resolution: This Canon FS100 uses the entire width
of its image sensor to record video in true 16:9 format. By capturing more
pixels, you get better image quality. If you generally play your camcorder
footage on a widescreen TV, use the WideScreen mode to record video in the 16:9
aspect ratio. The full width of the CCD imager is used to capture video in true
16:9 format. When playing widescreen footage with the camcorder output set for a
4:3 screen you'll have the letterbox black bars on the top and bottom of the
screen.

environment.

FS100 conforms to "Exif Print",
a worldwide standard. Vital camera settings (such as: exposure mode, white
balance, exposure time) and scene data are recorded to the image file when it is
captured. Printers compatible with "Exif Print" are able to use this information
to produce high quality photographs, exactly the way they were intended at the
time of capture. This intelligent communication process also allows the printer
to correct for poor lighting or mistakes, resulting in photos which can be even
better than the originals.
DPOF (Digital Print Order Format)
Settings: On the memory card, you can select which image or images you want
to print and how many copies you want. This is convenient for printing images
