The G3 Series subwoofers from Boston Acoustics incorporate innovative technologies with advanced materials for low-frequency firepower that'll enhance any type of music. The patented RadialVent® cooling system shunts heat away from the voice coil, and the ultra-rigid chassis provides a rugged platform for high-powered bass.

The 10" G310-4 subwoofer features a rigid copolymer woofer cone and a large compressed foam surround. Extended cone excursion lets these subs pound out ultra-low notes, while the 2-1/2" voice coil handles 375 watts RMS for bass that hits hard. Boston's unique SureSet™ fuse configuration protects the voice coil from overload when the music is cranked.

This multi-purpose sub works well in all sizes and types of enclosures. You can install this sub with Boston's GTR TunableRadiator for a big boost in bass level without a large enclosure. The gasket allows for standard and inverted mounting so you can get creative with your installation.

Enclosure Recommendations

Features

Chassis: The Boston Acoustics G3 series high-performance subwoofers are built upon a rigid chassis. It features the patented RadialVent cooling technology which directs airflow around the 2-1/2-inch 4-layer voice coil for increased power handling.

Materials: The G310-4 woofer has a co-polymer woofer cone with a raised dustcap and a large compressed foam surround. The wrap-around gasket gives you a good seal whether you top-mount or bottom-mount the woofer.

SureSet: The speaker terminals are equipped with two 7.5-amp ATC fuses providing voice coil protection under transient conditions such as accidental momentary overdrive. Use of the standard automotive style fuses allows you to quickly service the woofer in case a fuse is blown during usage. Note: The fuses do not protect against voice-coil failure resulting from long term high power abuse.

Terminals: The woofer has rugged spring post terminals that accept up to 8-gauge bare wire or pin connectors.

Long Excursion: The woofer has a 2-3/4 inch peak-to-peak excursion for accurate deep bass output from a small sealed enclosure.

GTR Tunable Radiators: The G310-4 is compatible with the Boston Acoustic GTR Tunable Radiator (item number 065GTR10, sold separately). These passive radiators, when mounted in an enclosure with the G3 woofer, can produce increased bass output without added enclosure volume.

Enclosure Recommendations

Sealed Enclosure: The ideal sealed enclosure for the G310-4 woofer is 0.5 cubic feet.

Ported Enclosure: The woofer can also be used in a 1.3 cubic foot ported enclosure with a 3" diameter x 10" long port (tuned to 36 Hz).

Nice sub

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this sub last year and never got around to installing it until a couple days ago. I have it in a .6cuft sealed enclosure and I'm powering it with my old Infinity Ref 611a. I have the amp set for 400RMS using a 0dB test tone, so with music maybe it peaks around 350RMS never really done any testing to find out. Anyways, the sub is very musical very reminiscent to my now aged Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1s. Well this BA seems to play a little deeper I believe. The Kappas were better suited for ported, but I had them in a to spec sealed enclosure. Sub isn't broken in yet, probably take a good week or two, but I can tell it's going to be a very clean and musical sub. I'm not expecting it to be heard by anyone a block away, heck, I'm doubting anyone over 100' away would hear it, but that's the way "I" like it. It's plenty loud for me inside the car, provides a little massage, and doesn't announce to the neighborhood there's something worth taking. Not to mention it shouldn't easily break any sound ordinances, thus resulting in a fine.

So yea, I feel it is a GREAT little sub. Doesn't take up much space and it's VERY musical, thus it adds much needed depth to my music.

Only thing negative, if you will, about it thus far, I haven't any idea just how long it will last, mainly foam surround. I mean I've had subs in the past with foam surrounds that just fell apart after a few years (Rockford I'm looking at you).

Pros:

Requires but a small sealed enclosure, very clean and musical output, like the idea of the fused voice coils, and it's made by a company known for quality (sad to see Boston Acoustics leave the car audio industry, I have a couple of their amps too).

Cons:

Unsure about the durability of the foam surround and while I like the idea of the fused voice coils, I'm not too sure I trust such to be problem free for years to come, I've seen a few complaints about the design already, but that's like 1 complaint for every 10,000 sold, so I'll hope the odds are in my favor.

Quality sub, with a few nitpicks

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sub replaces 2 Image Dynamics ID10's which were running in a sealed fiberglass enclosure in the spare tire well. I didn't like how the sealed box modeled for the G3 so I built a ported box 1.2 cubic feet tuned to 34Hz. The sub hasn't really broken in yet but hits the low notes very nicely off around 300-400 watts. The build quality is very good, with a couple exceptions: the foam surround is glued onto the frame right up against the screw mounting holes, which can cause problems when mounting screws are torqued down; I used a regular washer and a lockwasher to help. The wire connection and fusing "assembly" for lack of a better word is a major disappointment - it wiggles and on top of that is not a solid connection (I could hear the sound cutting out when the box was moved and also at certain frequencies it must have been resonating the "assembly"). I fixed this by pulling out the fuses and soldering my speaker wires directly to the tinsel leads. Other than these caveats it's a great performing sub so far and an excellent value considering the price paid.

Pros:

Clarity at mid/high volume, excursion capability, looks and feels solid.

Cons:

Build quality issues. Foam surround...?

Did not know what to expect when I installed this G310-4 with a 650 watt amp by Rockford Fosgate. I was shocked at quality and response to low freqs. Hits hard with no distortion at 300 watt. Never tested higher(didn't need to). Excellent buy for cost and sound.

Good Magnet, hits hard, no distortion noticed.

Cons:

Foam perimeter on cone. Minor issue though.

Absolutely exceptional subwoofer! I've tried and used many various subwoofers over the past 20+ years, and this one stands with any costing much more. Responsive with variety types of music, requires tiny box (I built mine to fit inside the spare tire) so there is minimal or no loss of the trunk space. Would recommend with out a doubt (keeping in mind, that I listen to a great variety of music, from classical and jazz to very heavy metal and anything in between)

Pros:

Sound quality, 0.5 cu.ft box (sealed), integrated rubber gasket, quality terminals, at the current sale/clearance price - premium subwoofer is an absolute bargain!

Cons:

Foam surround...? Otherwise, really, nothing to gripe about at all!

I bought these to be as close as a replacement for my Boston Acoustics Pro-Series 10.5 LF subwoofers and they sound just as great if not better!

Pros:

Sound quality is really nice! I kept these in a sealed enclosure just like my pro series 10.5LF's and they sound just as clean but can produce much louder low's. Haha, probably because the surround isn't ripped anymore.

Cons:

I wish it had a rubber surround instead of a foam surround.

I am going to say, I was a bit reluctant to buy the boston g3. I typically go for the non mainstream stuff like FI, skar, and treo, but at the time of purchase (5/5/2012) I couldn't find anything too exciting plus these were open box (120 per subwoofer) so I decided to bite the bullet.

I already had a box chillin in my garage so that is why I went with 10's... the box specs is 2.8 cubes (shared chamber for 2 10's) @36hz. Im pushing about 450rms though them and Ill tell you, they sound damn good. I originally had 2 jl w3v3 in that box and I think the bostons sound as good, if not better than the jl.

I do not regret buying these. They are awesome!

I ordered this Sub to replace 2 8 inch stage 1's, which were great, but just
weren't exactly what I wanted, and what an amazing difference.
It really makes the whole system come together, and now after hearing this one,
I know what Ive been missing for the past couple of years. The bass if fuller
and deeper, doesn't rumble, but thumps..I listen to a range of different music,
and this sub is perfect for everything. Hip hop is smooth, the drum kick in rock
is punchy...
I have this sub sitting in a sealed .54 sound ordnance box
Crutchfield once again is amazing, I am never disappoint and Yall have a
customer for life

Wow!!! Audiophile grade quality subwoofer!!

I bought this sub partially because of the positive reviews that I've read online but mainly because of space limitations in my vehicle (Mazda 3 hatchback). I was a bit skeptical about a 10" high performance subwoofer that ONLY requires .5cu ft in a sealed box but I had to give it a go anyways because Boston Acoustics has always delivered to perfection with all of their other car speakers that I've owned. Upon opening the package I couldn't help but notice that BA didn't skimp on construction at all, heavy duty basket and a huge magnet geared for high performance and no nonsense. Solid through and through. I was still not convinced on the recommended box size so I installed it in a little bigger sealed box (.75cu ft) matched up with a 400.1 amplifier and WOW WOW WOW!!! I had no idea that a single 10" sub could deliver this much sound, much less in a small sealed box.! I'm absolutely floored about this, as you can tell, and believe me it takes alot after 15 years of frequently buying/trading/selling all sorts of car audio equipment in search of the "perfect sound". All of my extra subs have sold because as far as I'm concerned, I found it.

BTW- After about 10-12 hours of initial play (moderate levels) this thing breaks in and goes to a whole new level.... it's called heaven.

I have a Sony in-dash DVD unit with a Rockford Fosgate P400-4 which is running the 5 1/4" JL Audio components in the front and the rear channel is bridged running 1 of these 10" subs. WOW!!!!! I knew in the beginning that I had to find the correct setup in order to handle the wide variety of music I listen to. Ex. Tori Amos into Avenged Sevenfold next song Eminem then TI to some crazy punk like AFI. Make no mistake about it, I needed diversity. The last peice of the puzzle was this sub which I received, installed and adjusted yesterday. It replaced an 8" JL sub that just couldn't handle the 272 watts rms from the Rockford. This sub hits every note with clarity. Very tight accurate bass when needed and a nice deep resonate bass when the next song comes on. I am blown away at how this sub sounds. The fact that it is coming in such a tiny packacge is almost unbelievable. One half cubic foot sealed box is all it takes. Excellent sub. I am very satisfied. Thank you Crutchfield for accepting my returns until I got it right. You won't be getting any of this back from me.

I wasn't too fond of the Boston brand personally, but I have heard good things. I was also considering a pair of Kicker Comp VR's. Before listening, I noticed the quality and craftsmanship of the sub was superb. I listen to just about everything, but mostly metal, hip hop, and techno. I decided to put these in a dual 10" ported box. Feeding the power is a Kicker 1200.1 (a little over kill, but i wanted to put these to the test). Not only was I blown away (literally) by the sound, but also the quality. They can hit the low notes with ease and it doesn't sound "muddy". It's a very controlled and powerful sub. You can't go wrong with the G3, especially with the price and free shipping. I was truly satisfied.
