The journey begins with the innovative woofer — a high-tech composite material made from basalt and Aramid creates a rigid, lightweight cone. This design supplies solid midbass punch with exceptional midrange definition, while its rubber surround ensures smooth cone excursion.

The soft-dome tweeter radiates impressive highs, aided by a special wave guide that improves off-axis performance — meaning you'll get better stereo imaging throughout your car. A sealed rear chamber allows the tweeter to reach lower into the midrange to improve the definition of vocals and instruments. The tweeter's compact and powerful neodymium magnet provides excellent performance even when the power levels are cranked.

Features

Dual-Layer IMX Aramid/Basalt Fiber Composite Cone: The Pioneer D-Series speaker features Dual-layer IMX (Injection-molded Matrix) aramid/basalt fiber composite cone woofers. Used in the surface layer, this Aramid/Basalt Fiber material is highly rigid and better absorbent, enhancing stability and maintaining integrity throughout a wide temperature range. The woofers also have butyl rubber surrounds for a smoother response, heat resistant voice coil, and 5.3-ounce Strontium magnets.

Rear Chamber Tweeter Enclosure: The Pioneer D-Series speakers feature an exclusive rear chamber tweeter enclosure. This design extends mid-range frequency for improved vocal imaging and staging. The TS-D1002R's 3/4" soft dome tweeters also utilizes wave guides to control sound dispersion to make sound stage wider in the car. In addition, the tweeter uses a magnetic fluid neodymium magnet for higher efficiency.

Grilles: The speakers come with black steel mesh grilles with silver heat-proof resin frames.

Removable Tabs: The speaker mounting tabs are scored so that they can be removed if necessary to mount the speakers in 4T installations.

Great sound and awesome value

I installed these in my 2002 Porsche 996 Cabriolet as a direct replacement for the dash and rear factory speakers. I considered the Focal 100CA but the Focals mounted too deep for the rears. The Pioneers are a steal at this price and their performance is terrific.

Metal basket vs. glass reinforced plastic.

Very good quality. They went in the dash on my 2000 Jeep Wrangler and I can definitely notice a major improvement along with my Pioneer HU while driving on the highway with no top or doors. Very crisp and clear, especially on the highs

Strong performance

Installed in a 1995 Volvo 850 GLT

Fit neatly in rear door panels of my 95 Volvo 850 wagon. Adapters worked as advertised and the sound is far superior to the "premium" sound system from the factory.

very good mid-bass/mids and good strong highs too. although i would definitely recommend getting a set of bass blockers (i wish i had) for these because they really break down in the low notes. great sounding (and pretty nice looking if you don't use the grills) speakers. definitely worth the money.

i was putting 22W RMS through these from a Kenwood KDCHD545U if anybody would like to know.
