Product Overview: The Niles
Audio TS120 is a tabletop, infrared sensor designed for use with Niles infrared
extender systems. It represents one of the three components of a Niles IR
repeating system. It is designed to operate in virtually any environment,
including near LCD and plasma TVs, fluorescent lights and indirect sunlight.
IR System Overview: An
infrared (IR) extender system enables you to control your IR remote
controlled A/V equipment from a remote location. This enables
you to place your A/V components out of sight (behind cabinet doors,
in the rear of a room, or in a different room) and still conveniently control
your equipment.
IR System Components: The
TS120 Tabletop IR Sensor is one of three elements that make
up an infrared extender system:
- IR Main
System Unit
(sold
separately):
The Main System Unit provides a connection hub for IR sensors and/or keypads and
a number of IR flashers
and is generally
located near the A/V components. The Main
System Unit, which is the "heart" of an IR extender system, has LED indicators
to monitor the IR extender system. Models include: MSU140, MSU250, MSU480,
and MSU440Z.
- IR Sensor: IR
Sensors, like the TS120 tabletop model, are the "eyes" of the system, receiving IR commands from hand-held remote controls
and
relaying the commands to the Main System Unit via a CAT-5 or a 2-conductor
shielded
cable. Generally, sensors are placed so that you can easily and naturally
point your remote control directly at them. Sensors are available in wall-mount,
ceiling-mount and surface-mount models. Other models include: WS120, MS120,
MS120, MS220, CS120, and the IntelliPad.
- IR
Flashers (sold
separately):
IR Flashers re-transmit the infrared signals from the IR Main
System
Unit to your A/V components. Flashers are the "voice" of an IR extender
system that "speaks" to your components. Models include: MF1,
MF1VF, MF2, MF2VF and IRB1.
Universal Compatibility: An IR remote control extender system,
which includes the TS120 and the necessary accessories, is compatible with
virtually all brands of A/V equipment and remote controls between 25kHz and 90kHz. The TS120 is also compatible with the recently
introduced Philips RCMM codes.
Receiving Range/Angle: Depending on
remote strength, the range is typically from 20 to 35 feet. The sensor can
receive IR commands up to 30° off-axis (horizontal and
vertical) at 25'.
Bi-colored LED: The bi-colored LED is off
until the preamp/receiver is turned on. The LED glows green as long as the receiver/preamp is turned
on, and
confirms the reception of an IR signal with the blue "flash-back".
Wiring: You must run a Category 5 ("Cat 5") cable back to the
main system unit or the sensor expansion hub, connecting
each sensor to the hub with an individual cable. The removable screwless
connector lets you easily connect the wires before plugging it into the sensor.
