Features
Progressive Scan Output: The
DVD-2800 supports
the Progressive scan system, as well as the conventional Interlace scan system.
Instead of splitting each video frame into two sequential fields like interlaced
scan, progressive scan displays the entire frame in a single sweep. Where a
standard DVD player's 480i output displays 30 frames (60 fields) per second, a
progressive-scan player's 480p output displays 60 full frames per second.
Progressive-scan picture quality is more film-like, with more fine detail and
less flicker. Progressive-scan viewing requires an "HDTV-ready" TV.
The progressive scan output is carried through the Component Video Output.
PureProgressive Circuit: The DVD-2800 is
the first DVD video player to support Silicon Image's Progressive Converter,
capable of the highest standard of I/P conversion in the industry. This
Progressive Converter is capable of processing 6 billion operations per second,
giving reality to the following high performance. Since PureProgressive is also
adept at 3:2 pulldown detection, which converts Film recording mode to TV/Video
play-back mode, and detecting Video mode signals of DVD-Video and other moving
picture formats, PureProgressive is capable of reproducing DVD-Video discs
containing both Film mode and Video mode signals, as well as high picture
quality Progressive video sources, while avoiding the flickering caused by
detection delays. In detecting moving video signals, the conventional
Progressive method performs detection in single frame units, while
PureProgressive stores 4 fields of video signals in a 64-Mbit SDRAM buffer,
enabling the detection of single-pixel units to achieve greater precision in
discriminating between moving and still pictures. In 3:2 pulldown processing,
which converts 24-fps Film mode into 60-fps TV/Video mode, there are cases in
which 3:2 pulldown sync signals are not in sync. The PureProgressive converter
thus quickly detects the non-sequential points and performs appropriate
corrective measures at high speed to minimize picture flickering.
Highly Rigid Chassis and Hybrid Loader
Mechanism: The DVD-2800 incorporates a center mechanism mount that is
structurally very stable, and the mechanism's cover ensures that vibration from
the drive does not influence signal circuitry. The DVD-2800's rigid chassis is
constructed of a 15-mm thick front panel, a 1.6-mm thick drive mechanism, a
1-mm thick top cover, and a 1.2-mm thick main chassis to thoroughly suppress internal
and external vibration and preserve signal integrity. The disc loader features a
special hybrid construction of molded plastic and metal that further absorbs
vibration for completely stable disc playback.
Super Sub Alias Filter: The DVD-2800 uses
a Super Sub Alias Filter for the digital filter to optimize picture quality.
This filter achieves attenuation characteristics of -3 dB in the ultra-high
frequency band when the horizontal image is 6.25 MHz. Even at 8.25 MHz, the
apparent outer limit of DVD-Video, the attenuation characteristic secured is
above -60 dB, ensuring an ultra-high picture quality with superior horizontal
line resolution.
HDCD Decoder: HDCD is a digital recording
technology, compatible with the conventional CD format, that significantly
reduces distortion during recording to expand the dynamic range and realize high
resolution. The HDCD decoder allows the DVD-2800 to play discs that have been
recorded in HDCD format and to bring out the superior sonic performance from
these discs. Combined with Denon's advanced audio technology, the DVD-2800
masterfully reproduces HDCD's rich dynamic range and beautiful sound quality.
Video
D/A Converter: The DVD-2800
uses a 54-MHz, 12-bit video D/A converter to faithfully preserve the delicate
low-level signals during D/A conversion, resulting in a superior picture with
reduced digital artifacts.
Audio D/A Converter: The DVD-2800 uses a
highly accurate multi-bit Sigma Delta D/A converter with superior dynamic range
and S/N characteristics. This converter provides plenty of support for the
demanding 24-bit, 96-kHz sampling signals of the DVD-Video format. The
incorporation of a differential circuit in the output stage and other features
of the D/A converter ensure that playback sound is of the highest quality
possible. Note:
If the DVD is copyright-protected, no digital signal is output unless converted
to 48kHz/16-bit. If the DVD is not copyright-protected, a 96kHz/24-bit digital
signal is output.
MP3 Playback: This unit will
play MP3 files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs using the ISO 9660 format.
Although the front panel display will not show file names, the file names can be
shown using the on-screen display. During MP3 playback, rapid forward/reverse
playback is not available and tracks cannot be played back in programmed order.
You can play files in random order, and the DVD-2800 allows you to repeat the
current file or the current folder.
Component Video Output:
In addition to the composite and S-video outputs,
this unit is equipped with a set of component video outputs. When connected to a
television with a component video input, the component video output of this unit
will provide picture color and detail that is improved relative to video from
composite and S-video outputs. The component video output may be set for
interlaced or progressive scan operation.
On-Screen Display:
The on-screen menu language can be set to English, French, or Spanish. The
display works for DVDs, Video CDs and audio CDs, letting you perform numerous
functions, including track programming.
V.S.S. (Virtual Surround Sound):
The V.S.S. function gives the sound a sense of expansion and allows you to
achieve surround effects when only front speakers are used. For discs with
surround signals, the V.S.S. function not only gives the sound expansion, it
also makes it seem as if sound is coming from the sides, even though there are
no speakers there.
Multi-Angle Display:
This function allows you to choose the viewing
angle of scenes that were shot from a number of different angles. Note: This
function is limited to DVDs recorded with multiple camera angles.
Resume
Play Memory Function: When the Stop button is pressed, that
position is stored in the memory. When the Play button is pressed after pressing
the Stop button, playback resumes from the position where the disc was stopped.
The resume play memory function is canceled if the disc tray is opened or the
Stop button is pressed a second time.
Program Play:
Up to 30 tracks on a Video CD or an audio CD can be
programmed and played in any order. Note: The Program Play function does
not work with DVDs or discs containing MP3 files.
Random Play: When playing a Video CD or an
audio CD, you can play
the tracks in random order. When playing a disc with MP3 files, you can play the
files in random order. Note: The Random Play function does not work with
DVDs.
Repeat Play:
"A-B Repeat" allows you to select any
portion of a title, chapter, or track and play that portion repeatedly. When
playing a DVD, you can repeat the current title or the current chapter. When playing a Video CD or an
audio CD, you can repeat the current track
or the entire disc.
Scan Search:
When playing a DVD, Video CD, or audio CD, there are four fast-play speeds in
both directions.
Slow Motion: When
playing a DVD or Video CD, you may move forward through the program being played
in one of two slow motion speeds. When playing a DVD, you may move backward
through the program being played in one of two slow motion speeds.
Parental
Control: This unit allows you to
set playback restrictions for DVDs using Parental Control. Parental Control allows you to restrict playback
according to a predetermined level. You can select a parental control rating
from 0-8, which is protected by a 4-digit password.

and PAL signals are output from the video
output jacks when discs recorded in PAL format
are played.
- Video Out: You can select
Progressive or Interlaced, based on the compatibility of your TV
Audio Setup:
- Digital
Out: Allows you to
select Normal, PCM, or Off. When Normal is selected, the unit outputs a
digital signal when discs encoded with Dolby Digital or DTS are played. When
PCM is selected, the unit outputs a digital
signal when a DVD recorded in linear PCM is played. When Off is selected, no
signal is passed though the digital outputs.
- LPCM
Select (96kHz/48kHz): Allows you to select
Off or On. When Off is selected, only linear
PCM audio signals recorded at 48kHz/16-bits are output from the digital
output terminals. When
playing DVDs containing 48kHz/20- or 24-bit or
96kHz linear PCM audio signals, nothing is output
from the digital output terminals. For DVDs
without copyright protection, the audio signals are
output in the format in which they were recorded.
When On is selected and you are playing a DVD containing 48kHz/20- or 24-bit
or 96kHz linear PCM audio signals, the signals
are converted into 48kHz/16-bit signals and
output from the digital output terminals.
