Features
Dynamic Balance Technology:
Dynamic Balance polymer composite drivers are used for smooth wide-range
response with low distortion.
Mid-Woofer: The speaker
features an angle-mounted 8" Dynamic Balance, mineral composite polypropylene
mid-woofer for deep, accurate bass. This 15-degree Offset Drive Unit provides
more uniform coverage and better imaging by directing the midrange sounds toward
your listening area. For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofer
uses a butyl rubber surround.
Tweeter: The speaker uses a 1"
Dynamic Balance, silk/polymer composite dome tweeter with a neodymium magnet for
clear detailed highs. The ball-and-socket swivel mount lets you aim the tweeter
in any direction to give you direct high-frequency control, resulting in
excellent imaging even for off-axis listening positions.
Infinite Baffle Tuning:
Infinite Baffle Tuning uses the virtual enclosure of in-wall space for superior
bass response.
Moisture-Resistant: Durable,
moisture-resistant materials allow you to install the speaker in a bathroom,
kitchen, sauna, even under outdoor eaves.
Timbre-matched: This speaker is
timbre-matched to the Polk Audio RTi Series for seamless, enveloping imaging
when used in a home theater system. You can mix and match any of the TCi-series
in-wall and in-ceiling speakers with the RTi Series high performance
floor-standing and bookshelf speakers.
Terminals: The speaker features
gold-plated spring post terminals.
Controls
Accessible Controls: The TC80i
features technology that can tailor the sound for performance in difficult or
unusual placement situations. The following controls are located on the front
panel of the speaker (behind the grille):
- Wall Distance Toggle:
In-wall speakers excel when placed more than 2' from side walls. When the
speaker is mounted closer than 2', the result is a "bump" in response
between 50 and 200Hz. The speaker has a Distance Toggle Switch circuit that
flattens the response and tunes out the "boominess" if mounted closer than
2' from a side wall.
- Tweeter Attenuator: If the
listening room is very reflective, with smooth sheetrock walls, hardwood
floors, and non-cushioned furniture, the sound will overly "bright" and
unnatural. In this case, you can engage the TCi -3dB Tweeter Attenuator
(select the "Cut" setting) to flatten the room response without hindering
higher frequency response for warmer, more realistic sound and more accurate
imaging.
Mounting Options
Installation: The speaker requires
an 9-7/16" diameter cutout with a depth of 4-1/2" behind 1/2-inch drywall. Once
the hole is cut, the speaker can be dropped in and the Rotating Cams can be
tightened, allowing you to secure the speaker to the drywall without any extra
assembly. If you will not be mounting the speaker in drywall, make sure the wall
or ceiling material can safely support the weight of the speaker before
installation; the speaker weighs approximately 11 pounds.
Paintable: The grille and flange
can be painted, allowing the speaker to match any decor. A clear plastic paint
mask is included to protect the "unpaintable" speaker parts.
