InstallerNet

Our take on the InstallCard: Amp or Equalizer

by Erin Blanton

Not into "do it yourself" car stereo installations? No problem. With a pre-paid InstallCard, you can have your new amplifier (2-channel or mono) or equalizer installed by any professional who's a member of the InstallCard network — there are more than 1,500 locations all across the country. You'll get all the benefits of buying your amp or EQ from Crutchfield, plus the time savings and peace of mind that come with professional installation.

How does it work?
Simple. First, enter your zip code to see if there's an InstallCard installer in your area (if you don't see an installer listed, you may wish to call InstallerNet at the number listed below the zip code field. New installers are added to the network frequently, so there may be options available for you that aren't yet listed online). Then, just add this card to your online shopping cart, and proceed through checkout as usual. When you receive the card from us, visit www.installcard.com, enter the unique InstallCard number on the back of the card, and schedule your installation with the local shop.

Installation
When you arrive for your appointment at your local stereo shop, just hand over the InstallCard, along with the amplifier or equalizer you've purchased and your Crutchfield invoice (it will be included in the box with your order), and your installation begins. And you can feel confident about the quality of work — every installer on the InstallerNet Network has at least two years' experience and is MECP (Mobile Electronics Certified Professional) certified. InstallerNet feels so strongly about the expertise of their installers, that they will warranty the labor of your installation for the life of your vehicle.

What does this card cover?
With this InstallCard a professional installer will install an external amplifier (2-channel or mono) or equalizer (EQ installations include power wiring) to an existing car stereo system. The installer will not provide RCA patch cables, or power and ground cables for amplifier installations. So, we recommend that you purchase the appropriate wiring along with your amp or EQ from Crutchfield. Custom wiring options may cost extra, so be sure to ask your installer. Be sure to read the Details below to see what's covered. Please call an Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 if you have any questions.

Important note: This installation does not cover modifications to your vehicle. If modifications are required, you may be charged extra at the time of installation. Your installer will inform you of any additional charges before performing the work, so you can approve the charges.

Highlights:

  • pre-paid installation of an amplifier or equalizer at your choice of more than 1,500 professional stereo shops
  • to find out if an installer is available in your area, click here to enter your zip code
  • InstallCard services are currently available in all 50 states and Puerto Rico; we cannot ship InstallCards outside these areas.
  • installation labor is warranted for the life of your vehicle
  • Important note: This installation does not cover modifications to your vehicle. If modifications are required, you may be charged extra for parts and labor at the time of installation. Your installer will inform you of any additional charges before performing the work, so you can approve the charges. Some possible extra charges (parts, labor, or both) include:
    • your vehicle has a premium factory sound system (Bose, Infinity, Monsoon, etc.) that requires bypassing of the internal amplifier
    • you need to use a high-level to low-level signal adapter to connect the amplifier to your stereo (if your stereo doesn't have preamp outputs and your amplifier doesn't have speaker-level inputs, for example)
    • you choose to install a multi-channel amplifier; this InstallCard covers the installation of a 2-channel or mono amplifier only

Important Note: Install Cards are not eligible for refunds once they are activated. If equipment is determined to be defective during the process of the installation or immediately after while still at the install shop the installer will remove and reinstall the equipment at no charge. If equipment is determined to be defective after leaving the install shop or within a period of no longer than one year and within the manufacturer's warranty, Installer Net will cover 50% of the charge to remove and reinstall replacement equipment. If the customer chooses to remove non-defective equipment (swapping for a different brand, for example), Installer Net will charge for a completely new installation.

    Pro installation

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was perfect for me. I dont have the time to try to istall the sub I got. It was fairly quick and super easy. Make sure that make an appointment as soon as you can if you want the intallation ASAP. You gotta schedule an appointment after three business days.
    Pros:
Doesn't get any easier than this
    Cons:
Just make sure you start the appoint process right away.

    Simple!

Written By Chad, Portland, OR on Sunday, April 22, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This thing was a lifesaver! My friend and I purchased this along with a Kicker powered subwoofer and Rockford Fosgate installation kit for her husband's birthday. I would have installed this with him, but I've never had to run wires through the firewall to the battery before. Plus, installation labor has a lifetime warranty with this, so I figured the additional cost would save me grief and guilt for breaking his truck down by not knowing what I'm doing.

The installer actually came to their house and put it in, and ended up not needing the installation kit! I wasn't there myself, but my friends said he was very pleasant and professional throughout the process, called exactly at the appointment time to let them know he was running late because they couldn't find their house, tested the installation and showed them how to control the subwoofer volume using the settings on the head unit as well as the rotary dial remote he mounted to the dash.
    Pros:
Makes what would take the majority of a Saturday into an hour. In our case, the installer came to us, so we didn't even have to lift a finger!
    Cons:
    Yet to find one!

I am glad I got this!

I saved a good bit of cash by purchasing the install card. I also received quality work from a qualified installer instead of taking my system to a Best Buy crook, or shady install place. The installer did a great job on my vehicle. He was very careful not to scratch or damage the car while he worked, and he showed me how to tweak the system afterwards. I will buy an install card for my next purchase as well. If I had one complaint it would be the amount of time I had to wait before I could get an appointment with the installer.
    Pros:
    Professional, Quality, Warranty, Price.
    Cons:
    Waiting time for an appointment

    Difficult to find an installer

Written By JimS, PA on Tuesday, November 15, 2011
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

There are so many thing wrong with this. Although it is a great concept, it just doesn't work. It took forever to find an installer that would even take the job of installing a piece of equipment that we didn't buy from them ... some flat out refused. I have to travel an hour to get it done. The cost is not what installers charge. This is a down payment. InstallCard is not very responsive. They booked an appointment with someone who didn't even install audio! I had to find out after I called to book the appointment. Then, they told me they would find another local installer (this was the 4th attempt mind you) and I waited several days and they never called expecting to have an appontment booked. When I called them back to confirm, they gave the excuse that shop never called them back ... hello, that means the shop didn't want the work! Book someone else and call the end customer! We finally got one booked an hour away on the 3rd call to them and the 6th audio shop attempted. Bottom line: If you are going to install yourself, buy gear from Crutchfield, they are very good. If you are attempting to have a local installer do it, just go local ... far less headaches.
    Pros:
    Partial payment towards an install.
    Cons:
Difficult to find installer Lack of response from InstallCard Cost differences

    3 day wait

Written By Anonymous, San Antonio on Monday, April 12, 2010
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just a heads up, Installcard requires a three day wait in order for their subcontractors to schedule an appointment with you. Also they don't tell you exactly the name of the places for you to choose from only the distance from your location.

Overall it is a good deal and the installation was done perfectly.

    Super Quick, Super Easy!

Written By Q, New York, NY on Tuesday, March 31, 2009

Ordered my card online, and was at my house in 2 days. Crutchfield sent me an email a day before it came to set up the appointment though, which was really appreciated as I wanted to get it done ASAP. Gave my card to the installer, and he knew just what to do, I didn't have to say anything!! My install went great with no problem, and I was outta there!! That's that way all installations should go. Thanks Crutchfield.......(One thing the shop charged me $25 for an extra adapter, expect there to be at least an extra charge or something, as the shops have to make money too. But $25 was nothing, as I was expecting more like $100.)

Couldn't be more happier! Ordered my installcard and had it in just 2 days. Called the installer on Monday and had my amp installed on Wednesday. Took only 2 hours to hook up. The only additional extras that I had to pay for was the 4-gauge wire and battery fuse.

Brought my car in to have a powered subwoofer installed. Turned out to be quite an order to get it installed right, but the installer did a great job. I'm sure I would have paid much, much more had I not used the InstallCard. Will definitely go this route again in the future.

The install card is the best idea in mobile electronics

Written By Car Audio Fanatic, Los Angeles, CA on Monday, July 16, 2007

Buying the install card is totally worth it. I buy product from Crutchfield about every three months and i also purchase my installation from them because that way i get a set price that doesn't change because i bring in a different car every time. It guarantees professional installation every time from qualified installers. I make my appointment when its most convenient for me. The installers that were recommended by the install card were extremely professional. I even send my wife when i cant make it and i don't have to worry about them ripping her off because she is a women that doesn't know one thing about car audio, even though I'm a Fanatic. Believe me when i say that buying your installation from Crutchfield is very good idea. Like i said before i buy all the time and i haven't been let down yet (by Crutchfield or my installers).
