About the Kenwood KRC-435

Charlie Pastorfield
Kenwood built the KRC-435 cassette receiver for tape lovers everywhere! The fold-down detachable face protects the tape slot from dust and debris, while full-logic controls allow soft-touch access to all cassette functions. Dolby B noise reduction and a metal tape selector optimize cassette performance, and you'll enjoy conveniences like music search, track repeat, and blank skip.

System Q's 6 preset EQ curves combine with 3-band equalization and 3 speaker size settings for effective sound-shaping control. The muscular built-in amp pumps out 4 x 22 watts RMS power to bring out every bit of warm analog sound from your tapes. If you like to crank it up, two sets of preamp outputs simplify connection of external amplifiers.

For a change of pace, add a Kenwood CD or MD changer to your system and enjoy hours of continuous music. The KRC-435 will also control a Kenwood SIRIUS Satellite Radio tuner, so you can party down with 100 channels of digital-quality music, news, sports, and entertainment (antenna and subscription also required). And, with your safety and convenience in mind, Kenwood includes a wireless remote.

Notes

Features

Security Code: You may program the unit with a 4-digit security code. Once the unit has been programmed with a security code, the code must be entered to use the unit after it has been disconnected from power.

Display Type: This unit has a high-resolution color LCD with white LED backlighting, giving you a bright, easy-to-read display.

Sirius Satellite Radio Controls: This unit can control the optional Kenwood Sirius Satellite tuner (sold separately). The optional tuner will allow you to receive Sirius Satellite Radio.

System Q Sound Control: 6 EQ curves are preset into memory, allowing you to recall the best preset EQ curve for different types of music. The preset curves are named "Flat", "Rock", "Top 40", "Jazz", "Easy" and "Pops". In addition, you may store your own settings under the "User Memory" EQ curve. Each preset has its own bass, middle, and treble level settings.

Mobile Preset: The Mobile Preset function tailors the System Q Sound Control settings according to the type of speakers in your vehicle. You may select a Mobile Preset setting of "SP OFF" (flat), "SP O.E.M." (for OEM factory speaker systems), "SP 6*9/6" (for systems with 6" and 6"x9" speakers) or "SP 5/4" (for systems with 4" and 5" speakers).

Source Tone Memory: This feature allows you to store bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (cassette, FM, AM and changer).

Volume Offset Control ("VOL OFFSET"): The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -8 to 0.

CR-2 Advanced Tuner: This unit uses Kenwood's CR-2 Advanced tuner for clear radio reception.

Clean Reception System Circuit (CRSC): This circuit controls multi-path distortion by reducing stereo separation. As stereo separation is reduced, multi-path has less effect on the radio signal, improving reception in areas with tall buildings and mountains.

Station Name Preset (SNPS): This feature allows you to assign names to radio stations. Up to 32 FM stations and 16 AM stations can be named. Each name can be up to 8 characters in length.

Dolby B: This feature reduces tape hiss for improved sound quality.

Metal Tape Selector: The Metal Tape Selector provides smoother sound by allowing you to select the proper equalization for playing back metal tapes.

Tape Advance: This feature rewinds the tape to the beginning of the current track or fast forwards the tape to the beginning of the next track. It does this by detecting the blank spaces between the songs.

Blank Skip: This feature automatically skips blank tape sections longer than 10 seconds, stopping and playing at the next recorded section.

Music Repeat: When playing a cassette, this feature allows you to repeat the current track.

Auxiliary Input "Ready": When used with an optional adapter (KCA-S210A or CA-C1AX) or with the KDC-CX87 CD changer, this unit can accept input from an auxiliary source. This unit cannot accept input from an auxiliary source unless the appropriate adapter or CD changer is purchased and connected. When the CA-C1AX adapter (item 113CAC1AX) is used, you cannot connect a CD changer to the head unit because the CA-C1AX plugs into the DIN changer control connection on the head unit.

Heads-up Display Compatible: Kenwood's KPA-HD100 heads-up display (sold separately) may be connected to this receiver and placed on the dashboard, or overhead. The heads-up display can give a readout of the information from this receiver's display, allowing you to monitor the radio without the inconvenience and danger of taking your eyes from the road to look down at the radio location.

Disabled System Indicator: A red indicator will blink on the unit after the faceplate is removed, warning potential thieves. This feature can be turned On or Off.

External Device Controls

Changer Controls: This unit is directly compatible with Kenwood changers manufactured from 1998 on. If the changer has an O-N switch, the switch will need to be set to the "N" position. If you have a Kenwood changer manufactured between 1994 and 1998, it will have a round connector, but no O-N switch, and you will need the KCA-S210A switching adapter to control it with this unit. Changers manufactured before 1994 have a square connector; to control a pre-1994 changer with this unit, a CA-DS100 converter cord and a KCA-S210A switching adapter will be needed. If you use a pre-1998 with this controller, you will not have access to the following functions: DNPS, DNPP, Magazine Random Play and CD Text display. In addition to basic disc navigation features, this unit has the following changer controls: direct disc access (using the remote), direct track access (using the remote), track intro scan, track repeat, disc repeat, disc random, and all disc random. The unit also features the following CD changer control features.

  • Disc Name Preset (DNPS): When used with a compatible CD changer, this feature allows you to assign names to discs in the changer. Each name can be up to 8 characters in length. The number of names you can store depends on the CD changer that is connected to the head unit.
  • Disc Name Preset Play (DNPP): Once a disc has been named, you may press the DNPP button on the remote to display the name of each disc for 5 seconds. When the name of the desired disc appears, you can press the OK button on the remote to select the disc for playback.
  • CD Text/MD Display: When connected to a CD Text capable CD changer or an MD changer, this unit can display disc and track titles for discs encoded with disc and track title information. The text information can be scrolled manually or automatically.

Notes

Display Illumination/Clock Display: When the unit is in Standby mode, the face/button illumination is "keyed". In addition, while the unit is in Standby mode, the Clock Display can be turned on or off using the DISP button. When the Clock Display is turned on and the unit is in Standby mode, the Clock Display is also "keyed". Pressing and holding the source button turns the unit off completely.
