Worth every dollar!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought both the black and grey units to see which one fit better with the interior. I ended up going with the silver one and everyone thinks its from the factory.
Pros:
Makes install a whole lot easier!
Cons:
It would be nice to have the storage area and radio spots interchangeable.

not so great

Written By chris, santee, CA on Thursday, April 11, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The face fits the dash opening decently. The color and texture are good.I used this to mount a single din alpine which i love. That's where the problems start. the little tray attaches to the deck and is supposed to center in the main bezel. A lot of my friends have said I am one of the best mechanics and fabricators they know, and after 2 HOURS I could not get these pieces to align correctly.. I got the up and down set, but there is a 1/4 inch gap on the drivers side, and it is sitting under the main bezel on the passenger's side. The emergency flasher button would not fit without filing down the hole. I think i'll be trying out the scosche kit and recommend everyone else do the same.
Pros:
main bezel color and texture are a good match to stock.
Cons:
main bezel fits in dash, and thats about the only thing that fits right.

Looks good in black

Written By Ran D, Maui,HI on Wednesday, February 13, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got it in black, and it gave a nice aftermarket look. Only reason for 4 stars is that the hole for "hazard lights" was a little tight. When I hit hazard button to turn " off" , it wouldn't pop back out. Reamed it out a bit with Dremel, and now it's all good. Other than that, fit perfect on 2010 double cab Tacoma.
Pros:
Looks good
Cons:
Slight altering needed

Better than I expected

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After reading the reviews I was a bit worried that there would be some issues. But after installing the kit everything was perfect. It matches the dash color and holds the receiver with no rattle or wiggle. Like other reviewers said, you may want to use the OEM white clips from the original dash mount but other than that the kit fit perfectly. One thing I noticed was that you do want to center the receiver mount before screwing it down. If it's off center, the dash faceplate can force the receiver to tilt and then you will get some wiggle room and every time you press a button, the edge of the receiver will slip under the dash faceplate. But once it's centered, the receiver doesn't move at all.
Pros:
Easy to install, matches dash trim
Cons:
none

Grey color looked better the black.
Pros:
Hands free Bluetooth is awesome.
Cons:
A few extra clips in the kit to secure the face plate would be nice, lost one on the install.

Poor quality and design

Written By Wayne P, WV on Thursday, December 27, 2012

Poor quality and design, I had to make an additional support and placed a zip tie around the bracket and radio to keep it firmly in place. Face plate not molded very well, a little off, heated with heat gun to get in to better shape and need to trim off excess plastic flashing.
Pros:
Matches fairly well
Cons:
Took lots of work to get an acceptable fit

2011 Toyota Tacoma receiver kit

Written By dw, Birmingham, AL on Saturday, December 22, 2012

No wonder this is a free item. This is the cheapest install kit I have ever seen. The kit is super flimsy. My head unit is unstable and moves when I use the buttons. Maybe this kit is just not the ideal kit for the Toyota Tacoma.
Pros:
It is free with head unit purchase.
Cons:
Cheap, thin plastic.

2007 Prerunner Dash Kit

Written By Kevin Y, Currituck, NC on Friday, November 30, 2012
Installed in a 2007 Toyota Tacoma
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Honestly, after reading the reviews on this site, I was very apprehensive about this kit. However, I couldn't have been more pleased with the results. The fit was a perfect, the appearance was great (looks like factory) and does as advertised. I followed the instructions, and had no problems. The kit is a very secure, tight fit with no movement (I used the supplied white pinch clips). To assure that the receiver (JVC KD-HDR70) did not vibrate/rattle within its sleeve, I used a small piece of rubber between the bottom of the receiver and the top of the storage compartment to act as a shock absorber -works great. Hope this takes away some anxiety.
Pros:
Looks great, works great
Cons:
none

Could do better

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Where to start. The good first I suppose; The color and texture was pretty close to stock. You probably wouldn't notice otherwise unless you took a second glance. The fitting wasn't so good. I did a double DIN install and the top of the deck was flush but the bottom was sunken into the dash by a long ways. There is a small "filler" piece that is like a trim meant to take up some of this space, although it still left a gap at the bottom. I added some washers to the mounting brackets to kind of kick out the bottom to take up a little bit more space. The brackets I used to attach the deck to the car mounts were the stock, as the included ones attached in no way/shape/form (except for gluing them on there if one was so inclined). The kits was missing the size 6 screws to attach the clock/emergency light button to the dash piece, had to go to store and buy them. Also had to use the stock plastic pinch tabs to put on the new kit so that the front dash piece would stay in. I was pretty disappointed in this kit to summarize it.
Pros:
color/texture was a close match
Cons:
fitting sucks

05+ Toyota Tacoma Kit

Written By Ryan, Huntsville, AL on Monday, November 05, 2012
Installed in a 2008 Toyota Tacoma
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Anything that requires the end user to modify it with a dremel tool to fit isn't that great. The clock/hazard panel fitment was not good at all. Also make sure to remove the OEM plastic clips and put them on this unit. No where in the instructions did it mention that.
Pros:
Looks OEM, versatile kit (DIN, Double DIN, etc), and free.
Cons:
Poor fitment, Poor instructions.
