Alpine

Why replace your factory speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Our take on the Alpine SPS-610

by Buck Pomerantz
Alpine Authorized Online Dealer

The sonic specialists at Alpine optimize their SPS-610 6-3/4" speakers for great range and impressive tone definition, even at low power levels. You can connect these versatile Type-S Series speakers to your factory stereo for an immediate sonic improvement, or hook them up to a powerful aftermarket stereo or amp for increased performance.

Mineral-fortified polypropylene cones are exceptionally stiff, yet lightweight, which means they can push out accurate bass and deliver clear midrange. Resilient rubber surrounds help keep the woofer centered for accurate cone movement, reducing distortion. Silk dome tweeters bring out all the details in your music. Grilles are not included — factory grilles are appropriate for most installations.

Note: Alpine describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.

Highlights:

  • 6-3/4" 2-way speakers (pair)
  • includes adapter rings for 6-1/2" openings

Features

Poly-Mica Cone: Each SPS-610 speaker features a Poly-Mica cone and butyl rubber surround. Mica adds strength and heat resistance to polypropylene, resulting in reduced distortion and improved reliability.

Silk Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has a 1" Wide-Range Silk Dome Tweeter for smooth high frequencies. The tweeters also swivel up to 10° so you can optimize them based on your listening position.

Efficient Design: The SPS-610's high-efficiency design allows the speaker to be powered by your factory or aftermarket head unit, resulting in an easy system improvement for many vehicles requiring 6-1/2" or 6-3/4" speakers.

Mounting: Without an adapter, the SPS-610 speakers fit standard 6-3/4" applications. Given their required cutout, they will also fit standard 6-1/2" applications without an adapter, but new screw holes must be drilled. Using the included adapter brackets the SPS-610s can be mounted in a variety of standard 3-hole 6-1/2" applications, Ford 4-hole 6-1/2" applications, and non-standard 6-3/4" applications, without any modification.

No Grilles: No grilles are included with these speakers.

Excellent Product

Written By Drama, SA, TX on Wednesday, February 20, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers create a nice warm tone throughout the car without being overdramatic with the highs like Pioneers. I have these driven by my factory head unit and they sound great, but seem to lack bass. I'm probably going to change the head unit out and possibly add an Alpine Power Pack to increase the power to the speakers and get a better equalizer to dial in more bass. Had these in a previous car with a JVC head unit and they were excellent so hopefully the head unit solves the issue.
Pros:
Clean highs and mids
Cons:
Recommend use of an aftermarket head unit with these to get some extra bass out of them.

Sound Great

Written By Russ, Bloomington, IL on Friday, November 09, 2012

I am setting up a all Alpine system in my 2002 Galant and I added these first and i couldnt believe it but they were so loud that I could barely hear my stock 6x9's anymore. Great addition to my CDA-9884
Pros:
Great front speaker, loud and great bass.
Cons:
Didnt like having to drill new holes for the speakers.

Good speaker

Written By Anonymous, Springfield, MA on Monday, June 25, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good replacement speaker. Installed in a 2008 Silverado. Crutchfield provided the speaker mounting bracket adaptor and wiring harness adaptor with purchase - no splicing and installed in both front doors under an hour (no power door locks or windows made the job a little easier). Much better sound over the junk stock speakers.
Pros:
great sound - worked as advertised

TOO awesome!!!

Written By John Paul, Albuquerque, NM on Tuesday, April 24, 2012

I have a 2012 Chevy Cruze LT without the Pioneer upgrade. I had 4 of these speakers installed into the front and back doors to replace the factory speakers. I had a local audio store put them in for me. The sound is great for being connected to a factory radio. They sound so good that I can't wait to add an amp to them. I want to keep the factory radio, so my next step is to put in a sound processor ( A sound processor is needed to hook up an amp to a factory radio in most cases. ) and an alpine amp up to them. This is when I will really be able to show the quality of these speakers.
Pros:
They sound great even with just a factory radio at all levels of volume because they are 2 - 80 watts RMS power.
Cons:
None!

Kind of disappointed

Written By Ryan, Appleton, WI on Tuesday, April 24, 2012

I was excited to get these installed with my new Alpine deck and rear Alpine speakers, and I saw that these were rated really well, but the sound quality is nowhere near what I expected. I previously had Rockford Fosgate speakers in the car I just sold, which sounded great, but these Alpine speakers sound exactly the same as my factory speakers I just replaced for these. I am hoping there's a way I can return these and get different one's installed without having to pay a bunch of money.

Love them!

Written By Jared, mayfield ky on Sunday, December 04, 2011

I have a Infintit g35 and I have the alpine 6.5 component in the front and these in the rear. I know it says they will not fit in the rear but with a little work they will fit. Anyways, these are very good! I love them! I have my mids and highs powered by a jl4500 and the power works great! These are very sharp, and the highs sound amaizing!

misfit

Written By Rick T, Yorktown, Va on Tuesday, September 27, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The mounting brackets sent for the 02 and up Nissan Frontier XE did not fit and the speakers are deeper than oe and rattle against window. Took the universal thicker mounting brackets and had to do a lot of altering to make them work but speaker still rattles against window on drivers side. Lost a lot of volumn with the Alpine speakers compared to stock. Not really happy with the speakers but I do like the Alpine cda105 unit.

Decent

Written By Doug, US on Monday, August 15, 2011

I just installed these in my 97' 4runner Limited and after a few mods to fit the size (moved up from 5 1/4), this speakers bring my back seat alive. I have these ran on a Alpine MRX-F30 with a matching Alpine SPS-610C front set of components and with it only turned to about a quater power and set at 45 Hz it really fills the space and cuts out all outside sounds when I need it too.

Only issue about these is the same with all the rest you MUST BREAK THESE IN!! If you try to force them to run at top power with an amp right away you will end up blowing them in no time. Let these warm up, they may take a little time but before long they will hit strong mids and clear highs better than most of the rival brands.

Pretty darn good

Written By andy, indianapolis, IN on Monday, May 02, 2011

great speakers! i used these to replace the 6x9s in my grand am. They aren't
amplified, but they are really loud and clear. they have a good amount of bass
(nothing compared to a 6x9), but the mids and highs are awesome. overall I'm
really impressed the only thing I would change is that I might run bass blockers
on them. they don't come with speaker grills btw, but who needs them!
