"Rutgers hosted the first college football game 139 years ago, making it 'The Birthplace of College Football' and 'The Birthplace of Tailgating.' Keeping with tradition, our tailgating group of over 100 friends — who have tirelessly supported Rutgers football for the better part of 20 years — purchased a 21-foot 1992 Bluebird Bus last season. We immediately invested significant funds to convert her to a tailgate bus and make her road-worthy, and to adorn her with proper Scarlet Red paint and Rutgers' logos. However, that left precious little for a proper A/V system, making our bus a fantastic candidate for this contest. If we win, Crutchfield products will be used to finish the bus upgrade to include a worthy A/V experience. Our existing DIRECTV® dish will feed our new bus-mounted LCD TV with ESPN College Game Day® coverage in HD, while the receiver and speakers will broadcast ESPN coverage or music from our existing iPod conveniently connected through the new iPod dock. Game coverage will continue to stream for those who can't get a ticket. Lastly, we will add a digital photo frame to show pictures from previous tailgates. Fans are constantly drawn to the bus for its ultimate team spirit, and it will now be more appealing due to the state-of-the-art A/V system."

"I am Currently working on a large BBQ trailer that will be the ultimate in tailgating! The overall length of the trailer is about 16 feet. One side of the trailer is taken up in large part by a 10-foot-long galvanized former propane tank modified into a gas grill. Total cooking surface is about 8 feet by 4 feet. The other side of the trailer will house the audio and video equipment listed below topped off with a stainless steel worktable for the chefs. The chefs stand up on the trailer in between the grill and counter top. All of the gear will be hidden behind fold down panels until ready to be enjoyed by the partygoers. The gear will all run off two deep-cycle marine batteries, and in the case of the flat-panel TV, a power inverter that I will supply will be used to run it. The batteries will be hidden in the front section of the trailer."
Total cost: $1,989.90
Bruce Feldman, Senior Writer for ESPN The Magazine and the author of Meat Market: Inside the Smash-Mouth World of College Football Recruiting, selected the two finalists from among all eligible entries. Bruce based his decision on the originality and inventiveness displayed by their description of the system they have entered.
The two finalists will each win the products selected in their entry, along with access to Crutchfield Product Support Specialists to help them execute their described installation.
The two finalists will then have until October 6, 2008 to assemble their systems and submit photographs, videos, and descriptions of the installation process to Crutchfield in order to be eligible for the Grand Prize — a $1,000 Crutchfield Gift Card.
Crutchfield will announce the Grand Prize Winner, as selected by Bruce Feldman, by October 19, 2008.
