Dynamat

Our take on the Dynamat 10435 Xtreme Door Kit

by Steven Johnson

Dynamat Door Kits put up a sonic barrier that keeps noise out and your system's sound in. That means you'll hear more music using less power — effectively increasing your amplifier's output.

High-performance Dynamat Xtreme is a patented, lightweight elastomeric butyl and aluminum constrained-layer vibrational damper. At .044" thick, it's lighter than Dynamat Original, four times more effective, requires no heat to apply and is recommended for contoured vehicle panels. Dynamat Xtreme is coated with aluminum to make it ideal for high temperature areas such as firewalls and floors - and for high SPL environments.

Contains four 12" x 36" sheets.

Installation

Features

Overview: Dynamat Xtreme provides four times the damping efficiency of Original Dynamat, the conforming ability of Premium Dynamat, and the radiant energy reflection of Super Dynamat. Dynamat Xtreme has an aluminum layer for high-temperature areas. Dynamat Xtreme will create a seal and damp the door panel to maximize your system's performance.

Self-Adhesive: The rubber layer of Dynamat Xtreme is very sticky, so it comes with a peel-off paper liner. Once the paper liner is peeled from the rubber layer, Dynamat Xtreme can be adhered to your door panel.

Easy to Cut: The material cuts easily with scissors or a razor knife.

Installation

Installation Steps:

  • Clean mounting surface (bare metal)
  • Using a razor knife or scissors cut Dynamat Xtreme to the desired size
  • Remove the blue release liner from the back of the Dynamat Xtreme and apply to door
  • Apply pressure, working Dynamat Xtreme into the contours of the door panel
  • Work air out with a roller tool (eliminating air pockets will ensure lasting adhesion of the Dynamat Xtreme to the panel, giving you maximum damping effect)

Door Kit

Written By Rick W, San Diego, CA on Wednesday, January 23, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Honestly I know this product is better than the plastic liner on my doors, but to my ear it's not a major difference. I feel the doors are a little more sturdy feeling, when closing and opening. I'm sure if I did the whole cab I would notice more. But one step at a time...
Pros:
Professional grade.
Cons:
Little pricey and labor intensive.

More effort than I wanted to invest but great product.

Did all 4 of the doors in my '98 Blazer LS. I would recomend this item for people who want high-end stereo installs but not for those who want average installs such as myself. Not too hard to install, reduction of road noise and added extra bass.
Pros:
Added extra bass!
Cons:
Price

adding dynamat to my old truck doors really helped. not just rattles, but much better mid bass.
Pros:
better mid bass, fewer rattles.
Cons:
a little pricey. i would do more of the truck but 100 for just the doors seemed high.

good move

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was a good move. Road and engine noise are appreciably reduced. The car rides quieter and I can appreciate the music much better. It's not hard to install, just a little extra time and patience. The car actually has a more sumptuous feel about it.

Audible improvement!

I've put a couple hundred miles on my 2009 Ford Focus since installing the
Dynamat Extreme door kits in all four doors, along with two pair of Boston Acoustics
S85s. The Dynamat works as well as claimed, with a very noticeable reduction in
road noise, enabling clear listening at lower volumes and a more satisfying
experience at louder volumes. Worth the price, and maybe even the weight! (A light
sedan like my Focus tells you right away when you've added weight to the vehicle!)

Worth it!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good product, easy application, form fitting. The only thing is that it doesnt kill all of the noise of a powerful amp and sub combo. I have a dodge ram 1500 07' standard cab pickup. I have a 10" dvc bazooka tube ( thats all that fits) and an alpine v power m-500 amp and when i play a heavy bass song the panel vibrates outside. I had to double up with the extreme and also had to stuff fiber fill in the door pillar and also behind the interior trim. Success!!! I can crank it all the way up and only a whisper outside. Next up..... Inside the door itself. I'd do it again. Also open box saves money too! It gets covered up , and you throw away the box after use anyway! Crutchfield is great for suggesting this, and the return policy is phenomenal!

Great product to work with

Written By Aaron, San Diego, CA on Sunday, May 23, 2010
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was very impressed with how easily this product installs. That's said with the understanding that stripping your car doors down to the bare metal is going to be a pain in the butt no matter how you look at it, but once you're to that point, the Dynamat goes on quickly and easily. It's extremely tacky and flexible, will mold to any contour, and sticks like glue. It'll even survive having to pull it back up to adjust it.
One door kit was enough to completely cover the front doors in my WRX wagon, and there were enough scraps left over to do more than half of the rears.
I can't really give a fair review of the change in sound quality because this was put in as part of a full system upgrade. I don't notice a huge reduction in road noise, but as another reviewer said, you'd need to dampen quite a bit more than the doors for that to happen.

Do this before speaker upgrade!

Written By shovel99, Atlanta, GA on Sunday, June 14, 2009

Be sure to get enough product to do both the inside and the outside of the doors. The very most important benefit is about an extra octave of deep, solid bass from your existing speakers! And no buzzy wheezy rattles. You may not need new ones! I was shocked. The second benefit is a noticeable reduction in road noise COMING FROM OTHER VEHICLES, ONLY. You will no longer hear cars passing, trains, etc. or at least very substantially reduced volumes. Unfortunately, this treatment will not significantly reduce the sound of your own tires, especially on pock marked pavement like concrete. Unfortunately, that is probably 60-70% of the sound you hear. You can only eliminate that with a wheel well sound damping product, or layers of dynamat or similar on the flooring, between you and the sound coming from the tires. That is very labor intensive, to completely strip your interior. I paid a local shop $250 labor to do all 4 doors.. and glad I did. Next I will install wheel well damper.

Excellent upgrade

Written By Rob, Cincinnati OH on Thursday, July 03, 2008

I was very skeptical that this would make a difference, but after reading the reviews decided to give it a shot, hoping that in combination with new speakers it would make a good upgrade. I was VERY pleasantly surprised! The car is now a lot quieter. The only down side is that after about 3mo, I've gotten used to the difference, and now it seems "loud" again (though I know if I took the stuff out it would be awful). So very much worth the time and effort. I did all 4 doors of a Mazda 3 hatchback in about 8-9h.

Hard to Believe this stuff works

Written By lwick, Napoleon, OH on Monday, May 05, 2008

It is really hard to believe that putting this stuff in your doors would work,
but it does. I was having some rattling issues and bought the door kit and
installed in both doors and the rattle is gone and everything sounds alot
clearer then it did before. If you are looking for a cheap sound upgrade,
but this stuff!

Not so impressed

Written By Dan, Maine on Saturday, November 03, 2007
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was not so impressed with this product. I used three boxes of it to "treat" all four doors of my 2006 Subaru wagon, plus the spare tire well area. On the doors I covered both the outside & inside sheet metal. I spent about 4 hours just putting the Dynamat on (not counting taking apart & reassembling the car). I will say that the sound from my speakers seems, perhaps, somewhat better. But I am disappointed that there hasn't been much, if any, reduction in road noise. It's possible that a decibel meter would detect some change, but my ear can't really tell. I was hoping for something more noticeable in exchange for the time & expense.

Was Fun to Install and Really Works

Written By Jason, Sanford, MI on Monday, July 16, 2007
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was skeptical at first thinking that this stuff didn't really make a difference. I bought this Door kit and it took me about 2 hours to cover both my doors on my 2 door Dodge Stealth. I had leftover and used it on my trunk. I was surprised after I got on the road, I didn't have to turn my stereo up as loud to hear it and I noticed that the vibrations weren't so bad and were quieter. I am planning on getting some more for my trunk. I would recommend this product if you want a better sounding stereo.

It really works...

Written By audiofan, Sacramento, CA on Wednesday, February 07, 2007
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased three sets of the door kit, and two sets of the speaker kit.

With that amount of Dynamat, there was enough material for all four doors of both my 2005 Corolla and 2003 Subaru Outback Wagon. There was enough material left over so I put a second layer on about 25% of the Corolla's two front doors.

For me, the most apparent effect of using Dynamat is the noticeable increase in the quality of sound coming from my sound system. After I installed the Dynamat, my car sounds like I installed a very very good, high-end set of bookshelf speakers in my car. The sound is just beautiful!! I can hear every note and detail!

I covered every hole in the door panel with Dynamat. The speakers now produce crisp, accurate highs and lows. I have subwoofers in both cars, but the door and rear deck speakers now produce wonderful mids that were non-existent before.

Door panel vibrations and rattles caused by my subwoofers and road imperfections have also been eliminated.

Is Dynamat worth it? For me, ABSOLUTELY!!

I'M A BELIEVER NOW!

Written By wes, Conway, AR on Wednesday, December 27, 2006

MY SETUP:
2001 Toyota Tacoma Ext Cab SR5 TRD
Kenwood Excelon KDC-X790
Pioneer TS-A6871R (in doors and rear panel)
Factory door tweeters
Alpine MRP-F250 (under driver seat)
Kenwood KSC-SW1 (under passenger seat)
Dynamat Extreme (100 sq ft - floors, doors, & panels)

MY THOUGHTS:
Came together beautifully. GET THE DYNAMAT! Believe it or not, it is the foundation for all else; works amazingly well! Road noise is dramatically decreased. The 6x8's are loving the amp! Great bass response and super-crisp highs, although too powerful of mids can muddy up the music, so adjust as necessary. The amp is super-clean and gets those 6x8's LOUD! Often too loud for my liking, so the gain stays at half. The sub mounted perfectly under the seat and was CRITICAL for balance. It outperforms what I hoped for without upsetting the neighbors. Sometimes strains with rap, hiphop, techno, etc., but performs very well with all else. Finally, the head unit is loaded with options, including mp3 player input - 'nuff said.

If I could do it all again, I think I'd do components in the doors for add'l bass response and the tweeter upgrade (and may end up anyway). But, all-in-all, I am VERY pleased with this setup. 15+ hours of install, but completely worth it. People can't believe how great my truck sounds, and better yet: they can't see a thing! Stealth rules.

Thanks Crutchfield for all your goodies and your help!

Dynamat 10435 Xtreme Door Kit

Written By David, Fort Worth, Texas on Wednesday, July 19, 2006
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed the kit in a 99 Saturn SL. There was enough to cover both of the front doors, and the entire back deck with scraps left. It is easy to install in the summer. Just put it out in the sun for a few minutes to soften in the heat. Make sure you wear gloves when pressing it into the curves of the door panels. I found that the metal cover split in some places and sliced into my fingers easily.

It has helped with low frequency noise like the sound of the tires rolling on the pavement. The wind noise is still high in the car, but it is definately quieter.
