NAD

Our take on the NAD C 515BEE

by Loren Barstow

Don't be fooled by its unassuming looks and modest price tag. NAD designed the C 515BEE with the same principles behind their higher-end CD players — performance, value, and simplicity. It features meticulously laid out circuits comprised of carefully chosen components, plus isolated power supplies for the analog and digital circuit boards. This ensures that the delicate digital circuitry is protected from noise and interference, for a new level of warmth, detail, and musicality from your CD collection.

The C 515BEE's front panel looks very clean, and gives you easy access to basic functions without a lot of extra stuff getting in the way. And with the included full-function remote control, you'll have command of popular features like repeat play and direct track access without getting off the couch.

Highlights:

  • plays CDs, CD-Rs & CD-RWs, and MP3 & WMA CDs
  • repeat and program play with direct access from the remote control
  • forward and reverse skip and search functions
  • full-function remote
  • display dimmer
  • optical and coaxial digital outputs
  • stereo RCA outputs
  • signal-to-noise ratio 110 dB
  • dynamic range 95 dB
  • Sigma/Delta 192kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converter
  • carefully chosen internal components ensure accurate, musical sound
  • 17-1/8"W x 2-3/4"H x 10-13/16"D
  • warranty: 2 years

Another great NAD product

Written By ChrisS, Crofton, MD on Friday, February 08, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The positive reviews on Crutchfield's site tempted me to try this player out. I am very satisfied that I did. The NAD C 515BEE CD player is matched with the NAD C 326BEE integrated amplifier, a pair of Polk Audio floor standing speakers and subwoofer. The sound quality is quite clear and very natural sounding.
Pros:
Great value!

Sounds Awesome!!!

Written By MikeG, Waikoloa, HI on Friday, January 18, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent replacement for my Sony CDP-X202ES, which stopped working. I didn't think I would find another CD player the equal of it anywhere near the same price, but my new NAD C 515BEE has really made a believer out of me. The sound is absolutely stunning, I think even better than my old Sony. This is my second NAD product, the first was an NAD 304 amp that I also love. If you're looking for a great CD player in the $300 price range, I don't think you can go wrong with this one. Shipped same day of order, and arrived in perfect condition in two days. Thanks Crutchfield
Pros:
Tremendous soundstage, solid bass response. Vocals sound absolutely stunning. Highs are vivid, but not stressed. In every respect, a joy to listen to.
Cons:
None.

A Great Product

Written By JonL, Oakland, CA on Saturday, December 15, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If you haven't bought a new CD player in the last decade, you're in for a surprise. This machine outperforms the last player I bought for twice the price. The increase in performance of quality CD players across the board suggests that they have been underrated in the past, the presumption being that digital players varied little in quality: a good CD player with a high quality DAC like this one is a critical component in overall system performance. I also have an outboard DAC for my macbook pro whose performance is theoretically just as good, but which suffers in comparison because of jitter problems, so I only use the computer now for convenience. The sound from the NAD is very "natural" and beautifully detailed at a budget price.

NAD C 515BEE CD PLAYER

Written By Bernie, Kansas City MO on Tuesday, October 16, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

WOW! I had to replace my Pioneer 6-disc CD player that I have had for 26 years and I was not thrilled when I found out that there are very few manufacturers left in the home audio business. Pioneer, Technics and Kenwood were the brands that had the best products at a reasonable price, without spending 1000's on each componant, so when I saw none of those brands were available anymore I didnt know what to expect with whats available now, I have to say that I am quite pleased with this CD player. The sound quality is very good. It works great with my multi-componant stereo system, and was very simple to connect. I dont like the fact that now all one can get is the carousel players which dont allow direct access, and are very cheaply built, or the 100 or 300 disc players of which I am not interested in. I would have to say that NAD did a good job with this product, and I would definately by NAD products again.
Pros:
Good sound, Good price, very easy to use, comes with a remote.
Cons:
Single disc player, No headphone jack. The multi disc player is a carousel (not this product).

Holy Cow!

Written By Mike, Las Cruces, NM on Monday, October 15, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I suspected my 15 year old Arcam was was getting long in the tooth, so I took a chance. I know that technology has come a long way, but I really had no idea. This puppy is giving me a level of music quality I had forgotten existed and I hate to admit it, at about a third of the price I paid for the Arcam. Don't get me wrong, I'd but another Arcam in a heartbeat, but if you (as I am now) are on a budget you can't go wrong with this CD player. Everything about it projects quality.
Pros:
Great sound. Controls are solid and function are top notch.
Cons:
None

Excellent Player

Written By Jon S, Ormond Beach, FL on Tuesday, September 04, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very satisfied with this NAD CD Player. I owned an excellent 3020 amplifier by this company when I was in college 20 years ago and it is nice to see that they are continuing to build simple, high quality items that focus on the audio properties, rather than all the bells and whistles that some other manufacturers pursue. This player exudes quality manaufacturing and the sound reproduction is excellent with a warmth to the music that is often missing when playing CD's.
Pros:
High quality constuction. Simple no nonsense controls on face plate. More options via remote.
Cons:
Haven't found any yet !!

Sleek and Classy Looking

Written By SteveP, Columbus, Ohio on Thursday, August 23, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the Nad C515BEE to replace my sixteen year old Nad 512. Although it doesn't seem to deliver the "punch" of the older unit, it certainly makes up in sound quality. Nad has replaced the traditional battle ship gray with a sleek black cabinet that compliments my other components well. I would highly recommend considering this unit especially at the price. Crutchfield processed and ship free the product the day ordered and it was at my door step in two days.
Pros:
Nice simple sleek look Spacious sound
Cons:
None so far

NAD C 515BEE

Written By PaulS, Joliet, IL on Wednesday, August 08, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm using the NAD C 515BEE only a s a CD transport. I have an external PS Audio DAC connected to the NAD so I can't really judge the sound quality of the internal DAC/DACs. I just wanted an inexpensive CD transport and this NAD model fit the bill. It does the job for me. This is my third piece of NAD equipment. I also have a NAD amp and NAD tuner. I am fully satisfied with all three pieces.
Pros:
The price is right, the unit is well built and it looks good.

It's all about Quality, Quality and Quality.

Written By Anonymous, Mt Pleasant, SC on Monday, April 23, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I read as many CD-player customer reviews as I could find. Even the higher cost units had horror stories, mostly in mechanics. I chose the NAD C 515BEE for reliability. All the reviews hailed its merits. I was shocked!!! My old Realistic amp and Infinity RS speakers sound like I bought an entire new system. I did not believe that I could hear any difference in CD players. I really love the sound. I have separate systems in four rooms. Except for the NAD, this is the oldest set up. It now sounds like the best!!! What a great surprise. I am waiting for the others to fail so I can replace them with NAD players!
Pros:
It is a simple player with no bells and whistles- just quality sound and an easy remote format.
Cons:
I have had the player for a two week period- not long enough to find any cons

NAD C 515BEE

Written By Jeff from Cutler, Cutler, IN on Saturday, March 31, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for a decent, but affordable single CD player and had looked at the NAD C 515BEE, the Marantz CD 5004 and the Onkyo C-7030. All had similar specifications and good reviews. Oddly enough the Onkyo was heavy (built like a tank), had slightly better specifications and still had a significantly lower price. But at the time I wanted to purchase, nobody had the Onkyo in stock. I just didn't want to pay $350 for the Marantz which was also on back-order at several sites. So, I decided that the NAD was the next best thing to the Onkyo.
Pros:
But I'm glad I got the NAD. The midrange is very clear and the highs are not over-emphasized. The controls are nice and simple, and Crutchfield did a great job of packaging the shipment safely. So far it has sounded great.
Cons:
The only complaint I have of the NAD is that the drawer mechanism seems a bit flimsy for its price.

NAD C515BEE

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I matched the CD player to my NAD C326BEE amp and it is great fit. The sound performance is great on all ends. I am still not to lazy to get of the couch to change the CD but the remote is great to skip tracks that are not your favorite or answer the phone. As usual I find what I need with this equipment at an affordable price.
Pros:
Simple sleek design with great performance. Priced correctly.

NAD C515BEE

Written By Zfrosh, New York, NY on Saturday, March 17, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I listened to and reviewed three top of the line, "entry level" audiophile compact disc players and I am very happy to have selected the NAD. I purchased a receiver 25 years ago that still works well today. The unit plays very rich, detailed, and bright sound through my Anthony Gallo Reference series louspeakers. This was a great find and buy to add to my system. The jazz and classical music sounds richer, more alive, and soothing to the ear. I do not know why I waited so long to purchase this player. It is worth every dollar of the asking price.
Pros:
Just having this player makes my sound system complete.
Cons:
That I didn't go for the higher end only because I was worried that the difference would not be discernable by a novice listener like myself.

NAD C 515 BEE

Written By KC, Green Bay on Monday, March 12, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

NAD has been synonymous with quality audio components for many years. This unit exudes quality right out of the Box. Very musical, with better natural sounding vocals, and tighter bass, surely a step above those mass market names we're all familiar with that cost nearly as much. I can only imagine how good NAD's higher end units sound? Remember though, your sound system is only as good as its weakest link, and this player merits being connected to quality speakers, via good amps, and cables. Crutchfield's reputation is well known throughout the electronics industry for quality products, and service.. Don't mess with cut rate stores when buying a/v electronics. I feel secure when using Crutchfield. The unit was packed very well, and it arrived quickly. I am very satisfied with this purchase. Thanks!
Pros:
Attractive, simple, great sound value.
Cons:
Don,t use the cheap interconnect cable that comes in the box. Buy a good one.
