Headphones: Great sound whenever and wherever

The right pair of headphones can solve a number of problems: listen to music and movies at night without keeping your family awake, take your favorite music with you while jogging or doing yard work, or get relief from distracting noise while working or traveling. Replace the cheap eabuds that came with your portable player with a high-quality pair, and discover more detail in your music. Or choose a set of full-sized 'phones for rocking out at home. Noise-canceling models use built-in microphones to pick up background sound and then cancel it out electronically.

    Features

Transmitter: The system comes with an RF transmitter that connects to an audio source via a minijack or left and right RCA audio jacks. The transmitter sends a 900 MHz signal to the headset, using one of three selectable transmission channels. The transmitter has an automatic On/Off function. The transmitter switches on and begins transmitting when it detects an audio signal, and will switch off if it detects no audio signal for 10 minutes. The transmitter also functions as a storage stand/charger for the headset when not in use.

Headset: The ear cups fit comfortably over your ears with a closed circumaural design that follows the ear's natural shape. The double headband's self-adjusting mechanism conforms to the curve of your head for a comfortable fit. The right ear cup has the volume dial and tuning switch, while the left ear cup houses the supplied rechargeable batteries. The headset has contacts that allow the installed battery pack to be recharged when the headset is placed on the transmitter.

Auto Power On/Off: The headset has a self-adjusting double headband with a built-in auto power on/off sensor. The headset automatically turns on when pressure is detected on the headband and turns off when no pressure is present.

Induction Charging: The transmitter charges the wireless headset through induction charging which requires no direct pin contact making connection simple.

NiMH Rechargeable Batteries: Power for the headset is provided by a rechargeable NiMH battery pack, giving you approximately 18 hours of use when fully charged. The supplied battery pack will need to be charged for 16 hours before initial use.

Note: The headset can use the supplied rechargeable battery pack, or commercially available "AAA" alkaline batteries. The headset is not compatible with any other model of rechargeable batteries.

Range: Depending on conditions, the headset has a maximum range of 150 feet.

    Great product, exactly as expected

This product was great, it delivered exactly what was expected with 1 exception. We needed to go buy a $6 adapter to plug the headphones into our receiver. Not a big deal & still cheaper than the next model up. My husband likes to watch movies or football after I go to bed - this product allows him to do that & me to sleep! Crutchfield was wonderful in helping steer me in the right direction for the adapter as well.

    Sony MDR-RF925RK

Written By Jester, Gorham, Maine on Sunday, January 25, 2009
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have three sets of these Sony 900 MHz headphones, and they all have the same problem... The position of the headphone on the wearer, relative to the stationary transmitter is somewhat critical, in that there are situations where I turn my head away from the transmitter and experience a momentary loss of audio. Also, Sony's choice of 900 MHz is a poor compromise in terms of interference by outside sources. I've tried all three channels and have the same problem with all three. For the most part, these 900 MHz headphones are okay, but the loss of signal and interference will only allow me to give a score of 3 out of 5.

    Quality sound, questionable fit/finish

Written By Scott, Dayton, Ohio on Monday, January 21, 2008
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased the MDR-RF925R model (not sure what the 'K' suffix signifies on this one) about a month ago. Setup was easy. From box to enjoying Seinfeld privately took about 15 minutes (I tested them before allowing them to fully charge). Sound quality is very good. Reception - even from a room or two away - is quite good, as well. Only problem we're having is that the rechargeable battery cover won't stay in place. This doesn't affect the use of them, but it's annoying.

There are obviously better (i.e. more expensive) examples to buy. But, if you're on a budget, these work well for the money.
