Dual Voice Coils: For increased
system flexibility, the woofer has two 3" 4 ohm voice coils. When the voice coils
are wired in parallel with each other, the woofer presents a 2 ohm mono load.
When the voice coils are wired in series with each other, the woofer presents an
8 ohm mono load. In addition, each coil may be connected to a different
amplifier channel and each channel will see a 4 ohm load.
FIBERLock Cone:
This new high performance paper stock is a combination of natural and regenerated
cellulose fibers interlaced with a third, longer fiber. The three natural fibers
are chemically fused together with a blend of three interactive binding agents.
The extremely high fibril strength and toughness comes from the combination of
all six of these component layers. FIBERLock is light, tough and it's proven to
have superior sound quality and incredible durability. The cone is then treated
with a Thermally Cured Acrylic Emulsion that seals the cone body for exceptional
damping and even greater rigidity, resulting in industrial strength power
handling.
BART
Santoprene Rubber Surround: The BART
surround has a large roll to assure maximum cone travel. By increasing cone
travel, the BART surround allows the woofer to produce more bass. Santoprene is a durable and temperature tolerant rubber material that provides
the consistent support needed for linear speaker cone motion. In addition, the
damping capabilities of santoprene eliminate the transmission of sonic
disturbances between the cone and the frame of the speaker, improving the accuracy of the woofer's low frequency response.
Punch LX Cast Basket:
The woofer uses a cast aluminum
frame that reduces frame flex and offers increased stability over a stamped
steel frame. This frame offers the lowest coloration of sound due to the added
strength. To help prevent the spider from hitting the bottom of the basket
("soft bottoming"), the LX Cast basket features a deep step that moves
the physical boundaries of the basket further away from the spider; this allows
the cone far greater travel and, therefore more bass, without soft bottoming.
Aluminum
Formers: The aluminum formers allow the voice coils to
efficiently dissipate heat, resulting in improved power handling.
Dual
Laminated
Progressive Flat Spider: The dual laminated progressive flat
spider provides a very strong suspension for the woofer. A
secondary spider is fused to the primary spider near the critical voice coil
bonding point. The combination of the two spiders, in addition to the
progressive rolls in the spiders, provides the ultimate in linear control for
high excursion capability.
Hyper-Extended
Pole Piece: The pole piece is extended in length to lower distortion
and provide better low frequency response by operating the voice coil in a
linear fashion throughout its travel in the magnetic field.
Punch LX Long
Xmax Voice Coils:
The L-xtended winding coils allow the voice coil to stay in the magnetic gap
longer, resulting in less distortion and more control. Combine the L-xtended
coil with the hyper-extended pole piece and the result is a huge magnetic sweet
spot and deeper, louder, cleaner bass.
Vented Bumped
Back Plate: The back plate has been bumped to allow the woofer more
room for excursion without bottoming out. Additionally, "Aerovent"
cooling efficiently and quietly circulates cool air around the voice coil using
a back plate that is vented with a radiused aerodynamic back vent. By keeping
the voice coil cooler, power handling is improved.
Rubber Magnet Boot: A black
rubber boot covers the exposed edge of the magnet structure to improve the
cosmetics of the woofer and protect the magnet during installation. The rubber
boot looks great when the woofer is mounted in an enclosure with a window that
allows you to see the back of the woofer.
CONsealer Gasket: A newly
designed front gasket conceals mounting screws and provides an airtight seal
between the woofer frame and the mounting surface. A better seal increases the
amount of bass due to the elimination of air leaks.
Spring Posts:
The woofer has two sets of spring posts, one set for each voice coil.
The spring posts will accept pin connectors and bare wire.
Enclosure Compatibility: This
woofer can provide extended bass in sealed and ported enclosures (see the
"Specifications" section for more information on enclosures).
Specifications
Recommended Sealed Box
Volume: The sealed box volume range recommended by Rockford Fosgate is
0.8 cu/ft to 4.0 cu/ft. Within this range, the ideal size recommended by
Rockford Fosgate is 1.25 cu/ft, so this is the enclosure recommended by
Crutchfield.
Recommended Ported Box
Volume: The ported box volume range recommended by Rockford Fosgate is
1.75 cu/ft to 4.0 cu/ft. Within this range, the ideal size recommended by
Rockford Fosgate is 2.0 cu/ft, so this is the enclosure recommended by
Crutchfield. One 4" diameter x 10-3/4" long port, tuned at 35Hz,
should be used with a 2.0 cu/ft enclosure.
Power
Handling: The woofer has two 4 ohm voice coils, and each coil
can handle up to 250 watts RMS (500 watts peak).
