High Efficiency Design: The Polk Audio DXi Series speakers feature a high efficiency design; meaning better sound and more volume using less power.

Dynamic Balance Driver Technology: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Klippel Optimized Components: For a driver to reproduce complex sounds accurately, the cone must move exactly the same distance and manner in both directions. The Klippel distortion analyzer, a device that uses a laser and sophisticated software to do large-scale analysis of drivers in motion, lets Polk optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.

Composite Cones: Each Polk DXi 690 speaker features a Dynamic Balance, polymer/mica composite cone woofer. These composite cones feature tremendous stiffness-to mass ratio. Lower mass means faster transients and finer detail.

Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the speaker uses rubber surrounds.

Silk Dome Tweeters: The DXi 690s feature a 1" silk/polymer dome tweeter and a 3/4" silk/polymer dome super tweeter for clear, accurate highs. The tweeters employ a light-weight neodymium magnet for higher efficiency.

The speakers are nice looking units which I installed using wooden speaker boxes which I built. They sit on the rear package shelf of a '59 Thunderbird. I am using a Custom Autosound receiver with about 45 watts per channel. Since I just finished installing them last night I haven't had a chance to try them with any audio source other than the FM on the unit. They sounded OK but did not have as much bass as I had hoped. The mounting was a little tricky becuase using the screws provided in to wood , it was difficult to keep the screws exactly perpendicular and if you have any angle at all to the screws, the snap in grille will not fit correctly. The Crutchfield folks were great and recommended and provided the correct wires/terminal ends for the mount.
Pros:
nice looking, marine rated.
Cons:
hard to mount correctly in a wood base, not much bass.

Installed these in SO box and put behind the seat of my Chevy luv. I am powering them with a pa660 amp. 75 rms each channel. They sound good and when you turn it up loud they have a lot of bass.

Great speakers for the price! I installed these in the rear deck of my cobalt along with the DXI 650's in the front doors. They sound great and could sound even better if I installed an amp.

Upgraded an old set of four way Kenwoods in my Wife's Grand Caravan. These are a major improvement all around. Clean bass, highs loud and not piercing or overpowering. Powered by 88 watts rms, crossovered at 80 hz, very happy with results. Highly reccommend these.
Pros:
Price very reasonable for sound quality
Cons:
can only think of the fact that the tweeter/midrange tower protrudes out enough to contact trim bezel in rear quarter when installed. Doesn't bother me, but someone else may find this unacceptable.....

At first I was very disappointed by theses speakers. I had purchased these and the 570's 5 x 7 polks and for the life of me couldnt get any bass whatsoever even though I had played around with the eq on the head unit. So the next day i did a little more research on my HU and found that it did in fact have "loud" setting, that really helped but i still had major distortion on the extreme highs . Long story short I found out that I had to turn off all of the audio enhancements on my phone, so now they have great all around sound!
Pros:
Great all-around sound, the bass is great while still able to get those mid-range vocals and screaming highs without distortion.
Cons:
None for now.

This was my first set of Polk DXI 690's..I recently upgraded from a 2010 Ram Quadcab to a 2012. I purchased 2 sets of 690's to install into the quadcab doors. The difference between having the aftermarket Pioneer TSA 6974 6x9's with the Aramid fiber speakers and these new Polk 690's was " Definitely worth the few extra dollars!" Better clarity with a deeper, richer bass was noted by everyone. I am using the Factory Stereo..and am "Extremely Satisfied"! Only thing I feel I can do too improve anything in the near future might be to install a small Alpine 4 channel amp (40 watt or less) to maximize the Polk 690's full potential. As with my review of Polk 350's, the same remarks apply, not only will the 690's "Bring a smile to your face!," but with 2 sets installed in the 4 doors, these Polk's " Will put Chapstick on both of your Ears!"

Awesome speakers, great sound, tight punchy bass, perfect fit into my 1996 Saab 900, which anyone who owns one knows it is very hard to find something that easily adapts to that car.
