An enclosed subwoofer is a box with a subwoofer already installed. The advantage to buying an enclosed sub is that the manufacturer made the sub, then designed and built the box as a perfect match, so you'll get the best possible performance. Every enclosed sub has a maximum RMS power handling rating, so pair it with an amp with a similar RMS power rating to get the best performance.

Rockford Fosgate's Prime loaded sub enclosures let you put big bass in your car without taking a big hit to your bank account. These tough-as-nails sealed boxes feature 5/8"-thick medium-density fiberboard construction and heavy-duty black carpeting for protection. And Rockford Fosgate used their Loudspeaker Enclosure Analysis Program to create an enclosure that'll draw every ounce of bass out of its sub.

The R1L-1X12 sealed loaded enclosure comes with one Prime 12" sub and is wired for 4-ohm impedance. The sub handles 150 watts and features a polypropylene cone and butyl rubber surround for accurate bass that just won't quit.

Features

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate R1L-1X12 Single Prime 12" 150 Watt Loaded Enclosure features high current binding posts, 5/8" MDF construction and is finished with high density carpet. The R1L-1X12 produces accurate, loud, and punchy bass.

Enclosure: The Rockford Fosgate Prime R1L-1X12 features a sealed enclosure constructed of 5/8" MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard). The enclosure is covered with high density black carpeting. The sealed enclosure features high current compression terminals on the left side of the box (when facing the woofer). The enclosure's terminals will accommodate up to 12 AWG speaker wire. The enclosure's speaker terminals present a 4-ohm load to your amplifier.

Woofer: The R1L-1X12 features a single loaded Rockford Fosgate Prime R1S412 woofer. The Rockford Fosgate Prime R1S412 is a 12-inch, 4-ohm single voice coil subwoofer. The Rockford Fosgate Prime subwoofer features a solid stamped steel frame, quick-release compression terminals, and a Parabolic polypropylene cone. The Prime R1S412 subwoofer is optimized for sealed enclosures.

Parabolic Polypropylene Cone Design: The Parabolic Polypropylene cone design results in solid bass reproduction.
Aluminum Voice Coils: The Rockford Fosgate Prime subwoofer uses anodized aluminum voice coil formers that provide excellent heat dissipation. The woofer's aluminum voice coils keep the speaker running cool, even under demanding conditions. Unlike traditional plastic substitutions, aluminum acts like a heat-sink to quickly dissipate thermal build-up on the voice coil. This keeps subwoofers cool during high SPL conditions.
Stamped Steel Basket: The R1S412 subwoofer features a stamped steel basket for added rigidity.
Compression Terminals: The Prime R1S412 features spring post terminals which accommodate up to 12 AWG speaker wire.
CEA-2031 Compliant: Power handling on the Rockford Fosgate Prime R1S412 subwoofer conforms to CEA-2031 industry standards. This means the subwoofer has the capacity to handle power under continuous demand, not instantaneous power handling, that over time, can damage voice coils.

I bought this sub for a 2002 525i. I was looking for a small sub with plenty of bass and it's perfect. It's not much bigger than the 10 inch and looks clean. It took some experimenting with placement but I found it sounds better firing back than firing forward. It really gave my car tune sound it was missing.

I decided I wanted to add a sub to my truck once my friends did. I couldn't stand going back to music without the extra dimension that they bring to your music. At first this was everything I was looking for, but I then decided to go louder. And it turned out to cost me the same amount of cash as this setup. If you are just looking to add some kick to rock or pop then I would definitely say get this sub, but if you're listnening to hip hop with a lot of bass, this sub is not for you. It will hit the mid's GREAT but once the bass drops, the woofer won't keep up. Bottom line I would buy the component sub without the enclosure and then look around for a similar box. It will save you a bit of cash.

Pros:

Easy to connect, Good bass for rock and pop, fits behind seat in truck

Cons:

Lows are weak and you can barely hear them, overpriced, doesn't work well for bass heavy hip hop

Great sub package for an amazing price. If you want a sub to provide great bass for a great price this is your sub. If you want to shake the Earth and make sure everyone hears your system, then this is not your sub. Overall, an amazing deal!

Pros:

The price scared me at first, but know the quality of RF products, I was confident with this purchase. This is exactly what I was looking for: enough bass to improve my stereo, but not so much that it shakes my car and rattles the frame.

Cons:

Nothing.

This one 12 inch speaker puts out more bass them some systems that i heard with 2 sub. While it is not blaring loud so that an entire neighborhood can hear you, it is loud enough to enjoy the low frequencies of the music you listen to in your car. Highly Recommend for those that want just the right amount of bass in their car audio.

The R1L-1X12 is a great space-saving solution to add some serious lows to your car, and it's a great match for hatchbacks. It takes up far less space than a normal 12" enclosure, but the trade-off is that it performs a but more like a 10" subwoofer than I would like. Low tones are still audible, but they lack the profound deep resonance of larger sealed enclosures.

All told, the price and the small footprint make this one a winner.
