Installation Note: This harness uses your factory amplifier; your new stereo must have two pairs of preamp outputs to connect this harness.

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you don't know how to use a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors that you'll use to attach the Crutchfield harness to your factory harness.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness makes installing your new stereo easier, and allows you to put the factory radio back when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so, then check here for a list of parts. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Features

Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required and sold separately.

Receiver Recommendation: It is recommended that this wiring harness be used with head units that have front and rear RCA line outputs. If used on a receiver with only 1 pair of line outputs, you will need to add Y-adapters, and you will lose front-to-back fader control. If you have questions, please contact a Crutchfield advisor at 1-888-955-6000.

Take Care Aligning Pins

Written By Rachael, N. Seattle, WA on Tuesday, May 07, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The black plug with the RCA connectors is of CHEAP quality. Pins have a great deal of movement. Take EXTREME care aligning everything up, otherwise the pins are either forced out the rear, and/or a pin or more goes besides the female connector(s) giving intermittent connection. Had to remove and install 3 times before I got everything spot on.
Pros:
* Its Free * Uses OEM harness. No modification to stock wiring harness.
Cons:
* Pins have a great deal of slop. * May take several installs to get everything happy.

Poor Quality

Written By Josh, Spirit Lake, IA on Sunday, May 05, 2013
Installed in a 1994 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Black connector would not work with my car's harness. It is the same style, and looks identical to the harness I had with my previous stereo, but would not connect. Forcing it would shove the pins out the rear. I ended up having to cut the connector off the previous harness and soldering it to this one. I couldn't use the previous harness on my new head unit because they are different stereos.
Pros:
None.
Cons:
All.

Receiver Wiring Harness

Written By Anonymous, Homer Glen, IL on Saturday, February 02, 2013
Installed in a 2000 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This little gem did the trick when installing it into a 2000 Mustang with the mach460 sound-system, keep note, cut the coaxial and use the full feed from the head-unit, it will sound much better then it would from the pre-outs. Also with the harness, take both blue wires and merge them together.
Cons:
The audio plug, the pins came out, I had to push them in with a pair of needle nose pliers.

A bit more quality would be nice

Written By Tom, Orlando, FL on Friday, November 09, 2012
Installed in a 2000 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The harness was nice as it hooked into my Ford connector, but the quality isn't that great. The pins in the connector to the mach system were not secure. At first, I had a speaker with no sound and realized later it was a pin that pushed itself out a bit. Next, I had a really bad ground fault (characterized by the sound of my electrical system coming through the speakers even with the volume at 0!). It turned out to be the same connector. Once connected, I pushed all the pins in using needle nose pliers and then the ground fault went away. Quite annoying to say the least.
Pros:
Time savings?
Cons:
Poor quality connector for the mach system.

Receiver wiring harness- Mustang Premium Sound OEM

Written By LJ, Charlotte, NC on Saturday, September 22, 2012
Installed in a 1995 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Takes some improvising, you have to cut off the stereo jacks and direct wire the special Ford amp adapter to the stereo HU input connector plug. No big deal, done in about 60 minutes including shrink tubing wire-ties, etc. That part wasn't mentioned in the instructions, but some on-line research and looking at the wiring pin-outs and diagrams for the 'stang quickly let me know what needed to happen. Works fine first try for me, but take your time and do it right the first time if you don't have much experience w/ wiring.
Cons:
Need to let buyer know what to do if they need to cut the jacks off of the amplifier harness. Also, kind of hard to figure out, when getting the harness, whether you should or should not bypass the built-in amp for the premium sound system in the mustangs.

Fairly Easy install

Written By BruceBlueStang, Winston-Salem, NC on Thursday, August 23, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Ford wire harness to include the factory amp was original neglected from my order, but a quick chat w/Crutchfield Customer service rectified that and shipped within 2 days so I could install my receiver over the weekend. Wiring diagram was a little confusing between the receiver and the adapter (missed connecting up the blue wire for the amp, so no sound at first!).

Harness not Complete

Written By Anonymous, San Angelo, TX on Thursday, May 24, 2012
Installed in a 2000 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Audio out harness is not grounded to Mach amplifiers. You must run a separate ground line from audio out harness to power harness. Then the amplifier "pops" and alternator noise will go away. There's also a diode mod you can make to the harness if grounding doesn't rremove all of the popping.
Pros:
Price
Cons:
Not a well made harness for Mach sound systems

Wiring Made Easy

Written By pyroguysf, New Hampshire on Thursday, June 09, 2011
Installed in a 1996 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The black cord for the audio was simple- one end plugs right in to one of the factory connectors and the others to the head unit outputs.

The other cord plugged right into the large factory connector and made wiring to the head unit very simple- the wires even come pre-stripped with the stripped casing still on to protect the wire, just like it should be.

Made the install simple on a 1996 Mustang GT with Mach 460. Glad Crutchfield includes these at no charge.

Does not include all of the needed parts

Written By DaveM, Phoenix on Saturday, April 16, 2011
Installed in a 2000 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The OEM amps use a 5v input to turn them on. Using this as received, it
sends a 12v turn on signal which results in a horrible pop. You need to pick
up a +5v regulator from Radio Shack to wire in between the amp out of the
receiver and the amp to reduce the signal from 12v to 5v. It is $1.59 and
takes about 10 minutes to solder on the three wires. Catalog #: 276-1770

Having the harness adapter as part of the order made the installation SOOOO easy. I
only wish that the termination connectors were a part of the installation package. Other
than that it was really easy.
