    Love this thing.

Written By John K., Indianapolis, IN on Saturday, February 23, 2013

I've had this model for a couple of years, and aside from switching out the stylus once in a while, I've had no problems whatsoever. I am a Mac user, so the software disc was useless to me. However, you do not need the included software to convert your vinyl to mp3.

Most audio software out there (everything from ProTools all the way down to Audacity) can be used with this model as long as you know how to adjust the settings on your computer and within the software. I used Adobe Soundbooth (now called Audition) and it worked perfectly. I don't use this feature much, but I like having it as an option when I find a piece of vinyl worth converting.

As to the overall sound of the turntable, this is far from "audiophile" grade, with the sound being a little flat (the highs are what I miss the most, but that could be my receiver or speakers -- I can't say for sure), but the listening experience is not overly tinny and definitely is listenable if you run it through an average receiver and speakers. I'm using an old Kenwood receiver through Pioneer floor speakers and it's fine. Again, not an audiophile here. Maybe someday when I'm independently wealthy, I'll upgrade everything. For now, this is a great solution with a reliable name. I've used Sony products for years. Worth every penny.
    Pros:
Option to record over USB works great with other software; pre-amp is built-in with an easy-to-find switch in the back. Great for beginners or for people just getting back into vinyl after many years. Easy to use.
    Cons:
Cartridge, alignment, skate, and tracking pressure are all faculty pre-set, and that's pretty much what you get. No real way to customize this. But if you want those things, you're probably not seriously considering a turntable at this price point.

    Great Service

After a partial set-up of my new Onkyo receiver I started to get a little "befuttled" over some of the instructions. I called Crutchfield and was transferred to a technician. He walked me through every detail until the set up was complete!! He was very patient and very knowledgeable. I am so glad that my son-in-law turned me on to Crutchfield. It was a great experience all around! Thanks so much.
    Pros:
    Fantastic technical advice
    Cons:
    None that I know of.

    Not a good value

Written By Charlie G, Columbia, MD on Thursday, November 03, 2011

I was so happy to find an inexpensive way to transfer my old albums, but quickly found that the software was difficult to use. Lots of "options" to separate tracks, that the software recognizes as one song, was very difficult to use. As a result I have several "sides" as opposed to "songs" on my Ipod. Another issue was that I couldn't get the sound to work with my PC. Despite trying several changes in settings, I couldn't get it to work. Trying to record with no sound made it difficult because even after the side finished the computer continued until it was manually stopped, and the excessively long track had to be "trimmed" manually. The pain stopped when the turntable just stopped working. It began (periodically) lifting the arm and returning it to rest and turning off. Now that's all it does. Very disappointed. I'll spend more money for the next one I buy.
    Pros:
Inexpensive way to transfer vinyl to digital.
    Cons:
Software is not user friendly, couldn't get sound to play through my PC AND it quit working after 3 months!

    Works great!!

Written By JD, Oakley, CA on Wednesday, July 06, 2011

I had to make one phone call to tech support to change my computer sound settings, and after the one call this unit worked perfectly for me. I made CD's from my vinyl records without a problem and some of my records date back to the 1950's; the sound quality was very good on my recorded CD's. I am over 60 years old with average computer knowledge, and it was very easy for me to convert vinyl to CD.

    Cost Effective

Written By Zzyzx Oh, Philadelphia, PA on Saturday, January 08, 2011
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The dual interfaces, both USB and Line Out, are unique at this price level. The USB
advantage is not having to set the record levels constantly for each album. I could not use
the included Sony software, since I refuse to use Windows, but the AlphaSoft Vinyl Studio
shareware is excellent. I have taken very old records with lots of pops and clicks and dust
and watermarks (really) and they come out sounding like Audio CDs. So, the cost-
effective solution for recovering your vinyl and using it in your digital media system.

The tonearm is poorly dampered, not unexpected in this price range, so it makes booms
and bumps as it moves from parked to in use and back, but the software filters that mess
out. It seems very cheaply build, especially the buttons that Start, Stop and Raise the
tonearm, but it is very inexpensive and it works. It isn't the audiophile product of my youth,
but it does the job and when it breaks the parts will get recycled into something - not sure
what - but you won't bother fixing it at this price point. Did I mention that it's cheap?

I reduced my rating because the included software is Windows-only and I don't think that
is satisfactory these days with may folks using Apple devices for their digital media and
others migrated to some version of Linux. Get with the program. It you are a Windows
person, maybe it's four stars for you. The tonearm makes it so not a five.

    Turntable GREAT - SOFTWARE TERRIBLE

Written By GK Kearny, Arizona on Tuesday, December 28, 2010
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this PS-LX 300 USB turntable for Christmas. Took most of the first day to install and conigure the Sound Forge software. The Turntable can use a USB CODEC for input to the computer, but when you use the USB for INPUT, you CANNOT monitor the audio on your computer's speakers. I had to jerry-rig the LINE OUTPUT from the turntable to my PC Speakers, and that, of course, means that I need to RE-CONNECT the speakers to the computer when finished. BIG HASSLE. THEN, the Sound Forge Software is NOT FOR DOING VINYL TO CD EASY RECORDING. The Sound Forge is for in-depth, detalied editing of milliseconds of audio. WHO KNEW!?? I have been able to successfully RECORD both sides of ONE ALBUM. BUT I HAVE NOT YET BEEN ABLE TO BURN MY FIRST CD. The 48 page USER MANUAL for the software NEVER DISCUSSES ANYTHING ABOUT CREATING A PLAYLIST to BURN TO A CD. DUH??? I THOUGHT THE REASON THIS PRODUCT EXISTS IS TO BURN YOUR VINLY TO A CD? SO I will KEEP the turntable, and UN-INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE. If you know of an "EASY TO USE" Vinyl to CD software package, please SEND ME TH E LINK. I AM SO DISSAPOINTED WITH THIS exprience that I will NEVER purchase another SONY product of ANY KIND. Merry Christmas! And no Vinyl to cds in the New Year with THIS PACKAGE.

    Sony PS-LX300USB

Written By Paul T, Lake Mary, FL on Wednesday, December 15, 2010
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I made the first CD from an Elvis Christmas LP last night and it was a breeze
and sounded great. The process eliminated the vast majority of the pops on the
    old vinyl.
The only negative is the 28" RCA cables are not long enough. So if the distance
to your receiver is more than two feet you will need an extension.
You will have a lot of fun watching you children discover the LP experience.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The turntable is belt driven, so there is practically no "rumble." The software on the computer not only removes all pops and scratches from the LPs, but also enhances incredibly the quality of the sound. It then burns the file to a CD. When I play the CD on my surround sound system, you can barely tell (unless you listen VERY closely) that it is originally from an album. I am very pleased.

    Works Great

Written By Paul, Houston TX on Tuesday, January 27, 2009

The only other reviewer had a mechanical problem which after reading many reviews on Amaizon I feel his problem is not common.
The only tricky part is the software, most people have trouble getting sound
from the computer when using the USB cable. I did too, but finally figured out how. So here's how.
On page 11 when you set up the sound settings in Control Panel,
Under "playback" select your sound card NOT Audio CODEC which is selected by default for some unknown reason. And most important you must do this WITHOUT the program running or the change won't take effect
    I hope this helps.
