Pioneer

Our take on the Pioneer TS-A6991R

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Pioneer's 5-way TS-A6991R 6"x9" speakers have a couple of great things going for them — great sound and great style! The aggressively-styled grille will make a statement in a custom install, while the crisp, clean sound will make your music sparkle.

This 5-way design offers a woofer cone made from rugged injection-molded polypropylene, reinforced with Aramid fibers and supported by a rubber surround. This strong material belts out the bass without distorting the low tones. The mids are sure to come through with power and energy, thanks to the polyester fiber semi-dome midrange. To add the all-important top-end details, the TS-A6991R sports a silver film cone tweeter, plus two silver film dome supertweeters. The highs in your music will really shine.

The high efficiency of these speakers ensures you'll enjoy robust sound, even with a low-powered system. Hook them up to an amp, or a powerful in-dash receiver, and their high power handling will make your system really wail!

Features

Woofers: Each speaker features an interlaced dual Aramid fiber-reinforced IMPP (Injection Molded Polypropylene) cone woofer. With long Aramid fibers interlacing together inside, this IMPP cone design provides the strength and rigidity powerful bass sound requires. The high-density, compressed internal architecture is resilient, stacks up against high power and transfers sound very quickly. The result is full-bodied, rich sound.

Surrounds: For durability and a smoother response, each woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.

Midranges: Each speaker has a 2-1/4" laminated polyester fiber balanced-dome midrange for fast, accurate response with low distortion.

Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 1-1/2" PET silver film cone tweeter, a 3/4" PET silver film dome supertweeter, and a 1/2" PET silver film dome supertweeter for crisp, clear highs.

Awesome Speakers

Written By Bennyboy, Newark NJ on Monday, December 25, 2006

These are the best 6X9 speakers out! I am using them with my Audiobahn 600 watts amp, with my 5 1/4 Sony 4 way front speakers, I got from Crutchfield. Let me tell you, if you have a amp pushing these pioneers, the bass will hit, and the high too. Make sure you buy some Dynamat for your trunk from Crutchfield, because they really help the bass not vibrate.

Pioneer TS-A6991R

Written By Joseph, Weaver, Alabama on Saturday, August 05, 2006

I've always used Pioneer speakers. I go back and forth between Infinity and Pioneer. I bought these wanting to see if there was any difference between this and the 4 way. I can't hear any difference. They handle the bass pretty good. Let's face it, if you want bass you have to have a sub. Don't think that these are subs and can handle real bass. But, for the money and what they give in sound quality, they are some of the best I've used.

Pioneer TS-A6991R

Written By #1installer, Troy MI on Friday, April 07, 2006

For those of you that think sub standard build quality and terrible sound reproduction is a good thing then these speakers are perfect for you. The only thing these speakers are good for is a factory replacement or a big refridgerator magnet. The five way tweeter on these speakers is such a gimick, it makes no impact whatsoever. Go to an iasca comp and see if anyone uses these, but if you are looking at buying these you probably don't know what iasca is.

There Not Subwoofers

Written By mixmastermike, ATL on Sunday, April 02, 2006

For one these speakers are great. They have some of the best highs and mids i have heard in a long time. You could turn up the highs so loud it would give you a headache. As far as bass they have a little. But lets be honest if you want bass your going to need to just go ahead and purchase some subwoofers. I have 2 Eclipse 12's in a vented box. They hit really hard. But not lie... no system is complete without good highs and mids. That is why i think if your in the need of highs or mids these speakers are for you.

5-WAY!!!!!

Written By cj, traverse city, Mi on Monday, February 13, 2006

these are absolutly amazing! 5 WAY speaker. it hits all of the different sounds that you want. i have 2 of these on the back of my car above the back seat, 2 of the Pioneer TS-A1681R in the front doors, and 2 Alpine Type R 12" subs in my trunk. It is by far the best sound system that i have ever herd in a car. these and the other 6.5" pioneer's are powered by an Alpine MRV-F345 at 75 watts rms to each and my subs are run off of 2 Alpine MRD-M1005 (one to each sub) with a crossover. it is amazing. get these speakers with the right amp and you will not be disappointed at all. I LOVE MY SOUND SYSTEM WITH THESE 6X9'S!!!!(I also have a 5 farad capacitor so that my car will still run with all of the watts that i am putting into my system. if you get a good amp, get a capacitor, it gives you a much better sound)

Awesome speakers

Written By Justin, philly, pennsylvania on Sunday, February 05, 2006

these speakers are simply amazing. i have a 480w 2 channel sony xplod amp pushing 80 watts rms to each speaker. crisp clear highs and thumping lows will blow your mind away. i have to turn down the volume a lot because of all the headaces i get from these speakers. the mids are full of depth making it sound like you are in concert with every song. highly recommended to whoever is even thinking about buying these.

Great Highs

Written By jose, Los Angeles, CA on Friday, January 27, 2006

I have a 1966 Chevrolet Impala. i have to be picky with what i buy for my car and these rear speakers were not an exception. i needed to take my time because this car is a classic and should deserve the best. i needed a little help deciding and i called the crutchfield advisors and they helped me with my decision. i bought these and installed them, they have great highs and added the extra punch i needed with my system since i already had two ten inch subs, tweeters, and 6 more speakers inside to make a total of 8 speakers inside my car. GREAT SPEAKERS

Nice sound

Written By Richelle, Virginia Mn on Wednesday, October 26, 2005

I have to admitt that the desire to replace an older pair of 4 way 6x9's from pioneer had me looking at this pair. Wow AMAZING. I am only pushing 200 watts to these babies and they do have one great sound. The highs are there and the base amazing. I do have them up on an amp that is very capable in giving them 400 each but I can't imagine what that would even sound like. My car is a 91 Chevy lumina and it's sounds great.

Easy to mount into the car i didn't need to redrill as was stated in the set up instructions. I would recommend these. They are crisp and sound great with a variety of music; rock, country, dance, rap.. ect.
