A music file normally goes from the iPod's memory to its digital-to-analog converter (DAC), where it's processed and sent to your headphones. Some car stereos can take a file directly from the iPod to process it with their more advanced DACs. The end result is better sound.

A set of non-fading RCA outputs designed specifically for the subwoofer amp, often coupled with a built-in low-pass crossover and level control.
The rear preamp outputs can be set in the menu to output a full range signal to the rear channels, or a filtered signal to a subwoofer. When set to subwoofer, the output typically has a selectable low-pass filter and is non-fading.
Many cars are equipped with steering wheel controls for the factory stereo. When used with a compatible adapter, the controls will work with your new radio.
USB Input
A port on the receiver that serves as an input for a USB cable. Different receivers have different capabilities, so it's best to check the specific model to see if it will control the device you have in mind.

Number of RCA output jacks on the rear of the receiver, used for connecting external amps. The most common configurations are 2 channels (one pair of R/L stereo outputs), used for connecting a 2-channel amp; 4 channels (two pairs of R/L stereo outputs), used for connecting a 4-channel amp, and 6 channels, with the third pair of outputs generally intended for use with a subwoofer amp.
