Dual

Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Our take on the Dual XR4115

by Zak Billmeier

This digital media receiver will not play CDs. If you want to play CDs in your vehicle, we offer a wide selection of CD receivers.

If you've moved beyond CDs, this one's for you
Your whole music collection lives on your computer and portable player, so why put a CD player in your dash? Dual's XR4115 digital media receiver lets you play tunes your way. You can load up a USB drive or an SD™ card with your favorite music — it's easy to store hundreds upon hundreds of tunes on either one. Dual even gives you a wireless remote so everybody else in the car can get in on the action.

Plug in your player
Dual gives you a convenient front-panel auxiliary input for adding more music sources to the mix — plug in a Dock & Play satellite radio, an iPod, or another portable player. You'll also get a set of preamp outputs, a big help when you're adding an amp or powered sub.

These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the XRA4115 are as follows:

      • CEA2006 Specs: 18 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)

      Solid replacement

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This made a solid replacement for my car's older radio. There are really no frills to this unit, and it does exactly as advertised. The AM/FM reception is not very good, which may be due to the number of connections required to get to the antenna. Having the AUX jack, and USB and SD ports are great.
      Pros:
      AUX, USB, SD.
      Cons:
You can't get the clock to display by default; radio reception is poor

Gets the job done! So far does what it promises. A little disappointed that it's not terribly customizable, and the back light cannot be dimmed as I'd like, but other than that I am a satisfied customer.
      Pros:
      Good value
      Cons:
Not as customizable as I'd like it to be when it comes to settings

      Poor Receiver

Written By Normally Speaking, Des Moines, IA on Friday, August 10, 2012
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This receiver is junk. I bought this receiver expecting the auxiliary receiver to work flawlessly, but the sound did not come out completely. On some songs I could hear music and no voices. The only thing that worked right was the tuner. Once I finished installing I noticed that the aux jack was loose on my first use which gave me terrible sound.
      Pros:
      Easy to setup tuner.
      Cons:
No EQ options for auxiliary. bad construction

Installed in a 2006 Nissan Frontier
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this in a 2006 Nissan Frontier after the factory CD/radio finally died on me.

I noticed right away that the display is very hard to read during the day - the device doesn't interface at all with the illumination signal from the truck. I'm sure it's readable at night, but you're pretty much cupping your hand if you want to read the display.

The mp3 player is wonky - it works, but it starts playing the LAST song in the folder, not the first. A button press fixes that, but it annoying. I only have a handful of CDs I listen to, and I used an old 1GB SD card I had laying around, but if you were to use the maximum 32GB that the device can handle, you'd be manually shuffling through the folders to find that one CD you really want to listen to. But if you're willing to put it on random and just let it randomly sling stuff at you, I'm sure that would work. On a long trip, you tend to just let the thing run from beginning to end anyway.

The FM radio sounds decent enough to me. I don't really care about listening to the radio these days - there's no stations out there I like anymore. But it works well enough for me.

It has an aux input, yes! I know that's not a big deal for some of you, but the factory stereo in the 2006 Frontier did not. I can plug in my Garmin GPS into the aux port now.

TL;DR - It's a budget mp3 player/radio that goes in your dash and has an aux in. The display is crappy. You get what you pay for, it does what I want.
      Pros:
Price, pure solid state operation - no mechanical parts to fail
      Cons:
      Crappy display, crappy UI

      Poor FM Radio Reception

Written By Cory, Ogden, UT on Saturday, May 12, 2012

Although this is a pretty good little system, with the ability to play music through a USB, SD card or auxiliary device, the FM radio reception seems to be poor as compared to my old stereo of which this system just replaced. There's a lot of static and the FM stereo reception seems to fade in and out consistently and is not as crisp and clear on the same stations of which my previous system picked up with exceptional crispness and clarity and, it's somewhat annoying.
      Pros:
Ability to play music with USB, SD card or auxiliary input device, such as an MP3 player. The display of the name of the folder your music is in and the display of the name of the song which is playing, in the unit's LED display. Separate bass and treble controls while unit is not in Preset EQ curves mode, as well as Preset EQ curves such as Flat, Pop, Jazz and Rock. Loudness function.
      Cons:
Poor FM stereo reception and inability to more easily navigate through large numbers of folders and individual songs.

      Pros:
      Non
      Cons:
very plasticy, screen breaks nearly instaneously, sound quality isnt the best.

      Pure junk

Written By Jonathon P, Tucson, AZ on Monday, April 23, 2012

This stereo is absolute junk. 2 months after getting it, the backlight on the display went out. The radio reception is horrible. Tuning to different stations is a pain and not sleek like so many other stereos. Everything feels cheap.
      Pros:
      Ability to incorporate aux device
      Cons:
      backlight, quality, whole thing

      A Cheap Alternative

Written By Daniel, Spokane, WA on Saturday, April 14, 2012

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very much an entry-level digital receiver. It will get the job done at a low price, but I wish that I had spent a little more for better quality. The sound is OK/ fine, but not good, and I notice shortcomings in the digital tuner. One segment of the front display was dead right out of the box. I was looking to put a cheap stereo in an old beater, and this turned out to be a good solution. It has all the features I was looking for at a great price, but it is a cheap stereo that sounds and behaves like a cheap stereo. I like that Crutchfield carries low-end options. For me, their selection is the biggest reason to buy from them. I will be back soon to upgrade from this receiver.
      Pros:
Price and features. Perfect for a jalopy with no tunes.
      Cons:
Quality. This is probably built with undersized, or sub-par components, and it sounds like it. In addition, the filter circuits on the FM receiver at least are very, very low end. If you listen to radio, this will be a problem with this receiver.

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I like the product and the ease of use but the selections for the make of my car is limited because of space but it seems to be the same spects for most radios. overall the product has no defects but I only had this product installed for approx a week now, with limited use by myself. I have no problems with FM stations and I already know that AM stations do not come in well but mine does. People must understand that AM stations are weak in signals depending on areas, so stop beating on Crutchfield for your neg. reviews about an AM station. I only listen to AM in football seasons before I get to the game anyway. If this fells, buy an AM booster.
      Pros:
Use of the SD Card and USB Port is great for me because I do not by CD's anymore, less havic for me.
      Cons:
limit decks for my vehicle, that is supplied by crutchfield. Do not get me wrong, I have a 96 RoadMaster Wagon and this vehicle is small in quantity.

      NO LIST OF USB FOLDERS

Written By Den Mac, Campton, NH on Monday, April 02, 2012

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Yes, this receiver can handle 32 GB USB and SD input. But without any way to access a particular folder other than stepping through all of them from the beginning, it is pretty much useless. If I wanted to access the 400th CD on a 32 GB drive, I would have to push the advance folder button 400 times. I doubt the button would last very long, and if I did this every 3 seconds it would take 20 minutes. It sounded fine, did work. But I sent it back. The JVC KD-S100 I put back in has listing capability. It is now discontinued. I was only replacing it because it has a 4 GB max on the USB and 0.5 GB on the SD.
      Pros:
      Sounds OK.
      Cons:
USB and SD not really usable.

      Avoid this unit

Written By imnotfirst, Plano, Texas on Tuesday, March 27, 2012

This unit actually sounds good for the price. But, while it's nice to be able to have a large SD or USB full of songs, it's horribly painful to navigate them when all you can do is go one directory or song at a time with a forward or back button. But, the real problem is that after only 5 months, the main, informational part of the display has quit working. So much for a cheap MP3 deck.
      Pros:
      cheap, sounds relatively good.
      Cons:
Horrible media navigation, dead screen after 5 months.
