Woofer: The TS-W3002D4 has an interlaced Basalt/Carbon fiber
reinforced IMPP (Injection Molded Polypropylene) composite cone. This cone design
is lightweight and rigid, resulting in clean, powerful bass response.
Cast Aluminum Basket: The one-piece cast aluminum basket assembly
holds the motor assembly, cone, and magnet structure securely in place. The benefits
of this design include reduced internal stress, superior damping, and increased
magnetic efficiency.
Air Suspension System: Rather than using a standard spider to
control cone movement, Pioneer created an Air Suspension system; using two cones
with a sealed air space between them. The air locked between the main and drive
cones creates a spring-like effect between them moving in unison. The dual cone
structure maintains better linearity, resulting in consistently clear, powerful,
wide ranging bass response.
3-Layer Urethane Surround: The surround uses two layers of urethane
with a layer of interwoven fiber between them to add strength and stability and reduce
cone distortion.
Dual Voice Coils: For increased system flexibility, the woofer
has two 4Ω voice coils. The two sets of spring compression binding post terminals
are side-by-side for easy wiring. Each post will accept a pin connector, a single
banana plug, or bare wire up to 10 gauge. The two voice coils can be wired in series
to present an 8Ω load or in parallel to present a 2Ω load. Additionally,
each coil can be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will
see a 4Ω load.
Dual Mass Magnet: The TS-W3002D4 uses a Dual Mass Magnet assembly
(weighing in at 110 ounces) to create a powerful magnetic force. This increases the
control exerted over the voice coil and the power transferred to the cone.
Specifications
Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box sizes recommended by Pioneer
range from 0.5 ft³ to 1.0 ft³; within this range the ideal size is 0.8 ft³.
Note: When this sub is installed in the Sound Ordnance
BB12-95S enclosure (item number 777BB1295S, sold separately), there is
interference between the interior bracing of the box and the subwoofer
frame, such that the sub can't be mounted with the Pioneer logo horizontal.
The woofer has to be turned so the logo is at an angle (approximately 45°).
Of course this does not affect performance, only cosmetics.
Vented Box Volume: The vented box sizes recommended by Pioneer
range from 0.8 ft³ to 1.6 ft³; within this range the ideal size is 1.2 ft³. The
ideal port size for a 1.2 ft³ enclosure is 3" diameter x 3.5" long.
Single Reflex Bandpass Volume: The bandpass box sizes recommended
by Pioneer range from 0.8 ft³ per chamber to 1.2 ft³ per chamber; within this range
the ideal size is 1.0 ft³ per chamber. One 3" diameter x 7" long port
should be used in an enclosure with 1.0 ft³ chambers.
Power Handling: The woofer has two 4Ω voice coils; each
coil can handle up to 500 watts RMS (1000 watts total).
