Not Useful

Written By Chuck, Crawfordville, FL on Sunday, April 07, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Perhaps this would be helpful with a DIN install but there was no way to make it work on a 2007 Nissan Frontier DDIN install and tech support was no help.
Pros:
None
Cons:
Didn't work.

three strikes - this kit is out

Written By David B., southwest VA on Tuesday, March 12, 2013
Installed in a 2008 Nissan Frontier
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

And here they are:

1) As Reich1 noted, the design of this kit puts the head unit in a location that creates physical interference between the head unit's rear wiring and the dash crossbar in the Nissan Frontier (mine's an '08 non-Nismo, so it's not just the Nismo version). This literally made it impossible to install in my vehicle.

2) As MarkP pointed out, the brackets that attach to the sides of the head unit have very poor retention in the main body of the mount. The head unit pops/falls out of the mount with very little force. Be prepared to catch your head unit if you ever get rear-ended

3) The "trim plate" that goes on last had an insane amount of vertical play - in the neighborhood of 1/16 of an inch.
Pros:
Crutchfield's return policy - I'm returning this heap
Cons:
I was conned into thinking this would work...

Didn't need it

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Trim piece didn't fit the dash around the radio. No problem. Can't really notice it anyway.
Pros:
Came in a complete kit for single DIN and double DIN radios. Crutchfield included for free with the order.
Cons:
Couldn't use anything from the kit but didn't really need to.

Kit not needed for 2008 Xterra

Written By JColeman, Rougemont, NC on Thursday, January 24, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Kit is not needed for 2008 Xterra with doulble-din install. I did use the trim ring though because I thought it looked a little nicer and fit a little better than the one with the radio.
Pros:
Good universal kit but Crutchfield needs to evaluate better what kind of vehicle and radio install to save themself money.
Cons:
None seen.

Not for Nismo

Written By Reich1, Lexington, NC on Monday, January 14, 2013
Installed in a 2006 Nissan Frontier
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I do not believe that the Nismo model was taken into consideration. If all models have a metal cross brace tube that runs behind the receiver this install kit is junk. Where the wire harness goes into the receiver it hits the metal tube. There is no way around it and that issue is not addressed in the instructions. I had to space the metal frame that came with the stereo out about a 1/4". It looks fine but I should have not had to take it out and try different things to make the install kit work. And yes I tried the plastic ears that come with the kit. They two would not snap in place without the back of the stereo hitting that tube. I was installing a Kenwood KDC-BT752HD. Someone at Crutchfield should look to see if all models have that tube. If so the stereo and install kit does NOT work without modification!
Pros:
Finish matched factory colors and texture good
Cons:
Didn't fit right.

OK

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Didn't really need the whole kit but with all the different types of decks and the volumes that this company deals with I can see why the entire kit is included. You will need one part of the other in a 2006 pathfinder, so I appreciated it being there. Lots of parts left over, I would have been very upset having to pay for the kit and only using the frame that was needed for a double din to double din replacement. All in all thanx crutchfield.
Pros:
Without it there will be an awkward gap.
Cons:
Kind of cheap looking but you get what you pay for and this was free, so....

Useless for Nissan Xterra

Written By JJ, Grand Junction, CO on Sunday, December 30, 2012

This kit was completely unnecessary for my install. I used the factory metal mounting brackets off of the factory radio and the bezel cover supplied with the radio. (Which fit better than the one in this kit)
Pros:
They are pretty looking.
Cons:
I had no use for them on this install.

Nissan In-dash Receiver Kit

Written By Anonymous, Soddy Daisy, TN on Monday, November 05, 2012
Installed in a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So-so kit. Instructions not at all helpful; figured out how to make it work on my own. Tab features didn't hold, some broke, and had to engineer other solution to lock head unit into kit. Upper "filler bar" a bit warped and is slightly noticeable in vehicle. Lower pocket is a cool feature.
Pros:
Cool pocket feature
Cons:
Plastic choice not the best (breakable tabs, warp in part); instructions useless

Mounting clips didn't hold stereo in place

Written By MarkP, Seattle., WA on Friday, October 19, 2012
Installed in a 2005 Nissan Frontier
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After attaching the plastic mounting clips to the stereo when I went to slid the stereo into the holding fixture the clips didn't clip very well. One little touch and the radio would pop back out. There is no way to bend the clip a little so it catches better since they are plastic. I ended up going to local auto parts store and buying another kit.
Cons:
Clips wouldn't hold stereo in place

Extra Parts

Written By Len, Rockland County, NY on Monday, October 15, 2012
Installed in a 2005 Nissan Frontier
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was replacing a double DIN with a double DIN. The kit was also equipped for replacing double DIN with single DIN. So it came with many extra parts. Instructions not too clear. All I needed was a plastic frame. Glad it came free. I would not have been happy buying this whole kit for just a plastic frame.
Pros:
Gives professional apperance. Came free from Crutchfield with receiver purchase.
Cons:
Should have separate kits for single and double DIN.

A little frustrated

Written By DEW, Up Chuck, SC on Tuesday, September 04, 2012
Installed in a 2008 Nissan Xterra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not really sure if this kit was necessary, but Crutchfield said it was. I installed it on a 2008 Nissan Xterra. The frustration began with the kit had many pieces I didn't need for my double DIN Pioneer unit. The only piece I could use was a rectangular plastic frame. The problem was that it wasn't labeled for orientation on the stereo's faceplate. I tried several placements of the frame and had clearance problems while securring the dash panel, in other arrangements, the frame seemed awkward and cheap plastic looking.
Pros:
None
Cons:
Missing detailed instructions, cheap plastic.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The parts are cheap plastic. I didn't need this to install in my vehicle, a 2012 Suzuki Equator. The instructions they sent were wrong also. I was able to install my radio by adapting the factory mounting plates from my factory radio.
Pros:
none.
Cons:
cheap plastic.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had the factory double DIN radio and was replacing it with a single DIN. This did help to fill the space, but it honestly isn't holding the radio as well as I'd like. The thing works don't get me wrong, but it's not the best in the world. The directions also, were terrible at describing how exactly to place the radio. I ended up just doing what worked best for my scenario; not sure if it is truly right or not.
Pros:
Will work well for what it is.
Cons:
Definitely has the plastic crappy feeling about it. The directions are awful and offered no help what so ever!
