Sound Ordnance

Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

Our take on the Sound Ordnance™ P-65C

by Buck Pomerantz

The P-65C 6-1/2" component system sports tough polypropylene woofers that can handle just about any musical onslaught. Mount the separate 3/4" silk dome tweeters in a strategic spot, and they'll deploy all the musical details — you'll enjoy improved definition without harshness. Outboard crossovers direct the frequencies to the speakers for a balanced sonic attack. The black powder-finished stamped steel frames and handsome grilles tell you that these Sound Ordnance components mean business, while a 3-year warranty gives you peace of mind for the long haul.

    Good speakers for the price

Written By schnydz, Raymond CA on Wednesday, May 22, 2013
Installed in a 2005 Toyota Corolla
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in my wifes 2005 Toyota Corolla front doors. Barely fit the mids in the adaptor for the front door, but they did fit. Had to trim the sail panel for the tweeters, but they fit and looked good. Great mid and highs. Not as much bass as I was hoping for in a 6 1/2. Oh well. I am running it off a Pioneer head unit.
    Pros:
price, fit, mids and highs sound great
    Cons:
almost too big for my corolla, but made it work. not a lot of bass output, have the HPF at 200hz to minimize distortion.

    Not Freaking Bad...

Written By Andrei S., Abingdon VA on Monday, January 07, 2013
Installed in a 2004 Volkswagen Passat
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First of all, don't expect these to sound like subs. That said, I got two pairs of these speakers for $84 right after Black Friday and I installed these in my B5.5 Passat and they're not bad using the stock head unit. They're not going to give you the greatest bass in a larger car but they're still okay considering my motor is really loud and I tend to drive with my window cracked. They'd be great for smaller cars, but in a car with more air space get some subs to help them along. I have the components set up for mids and highs with dual 12" Kenwoods for bass (2 Ohms, 600Wrms) and a Kenwood head unit.

Lastly, the speaker brackets suck and it took forever to install but finally got it done. Crutchfield support is awesome, as usual.
    Pros:
Great sound, Durable build, Sound much better with a head unit and/or subs, Certain songs bump hard either way.
    Cons:
Don't work great with the speaker mounts but not impossible, Not the greatest bass I've heard out of components.

    Sound Ordnance P-65C

Written By Dean D., Huber Heights Oh on Tuesday, January 01, 2013

I purchased these as a replacement for the worn out factory speakers in my sons 2000 Nissan Frontier. The supplied speaker adapter plates did not fit the speakers, and did not align to the factory mounts. Easy fix, I re-drilled the factory mounts to accept the new speakers. I mounted the tweeters in the factory door location with some modification using one of the supplied mounting options. Since there is limited space in the doors, I opted to install the crossovers in the dash under the new head unit - so far so good. During the operational check, I found out that one of the crossovers had no output to the tweeter. After removing one of the door panels (again) to re-check connections and swapping the crossovers left to right my suspicion the crossover was bad was confirmed. Luckily I had some capacitors on hand I wired in place of the crossovers but not without modifying my original wiring set up (cut, re-solder, re-heat shrink...you get the idea). The bad crossover caused me about an hour re-work, but the end result turned out ok. I would have rated these higher if it were not for the defective crossover.
    Pros:
    Good sound for the money
    Cons:
Bad crossover right out of the box, non-standard 6.5" speaker size, supplied adapter plates incorrect

Was not sure about speakers because of price but I am very impressed with the sound. Speakers have great bass and treble. They sound clear and are everything I wanted them to be. Had to modify the tweeters a little to get them in but still great product.( 2000 jetta)

    Sound great.

    Had to modify tweeters.

    Quality Sound

Written By Damien, Indianapolis on Sunday, September 23, 2012
Installed in a 1995 Honda Accord LX
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was impressesed with the set up. I already owned the p-69 6x9's so the sound matched perfectly. You don't even need an amp to get high quality sound out of them. I recently purchased a Blaukpunt Toronto 420 BT deck to replace my old JVC, and they sound even better!! If your deck has the "loud" feature, you can turn it on for better sound, these speakers can definitely handle it. Plus, Crutchfield is awesome! Best customer service anywhere! They send you everything you need to install them. I would recommend to all!
    Pros:
High quality sound for the price, easy to install, doesn't require an amp.
    Cons:
Tweeter flush mount cracked during install, but crutchfield did replace for free!

These speakers sound awesome, big upgrade from factory stuff. Went with these cause I wanted a little more clarity. They deliver, very easy to install. Drilling out old speaker was not a problem, Crutchfield supplied mounting brackets which install much easier. Even teenage son like the way they sound.
    Pros:
    sound great for the price

    none, so far

Not quite what I had in mind

Written By Larseny63, Los Angeles, ca on Monday, April 02, 2012
Installed in a 2003 Toyota Sequoia
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this kit, recommended by the site, to replace the front door speakers in my Toyota sequoia 2003, with the jbl system. I only needed the woofers, I didn't need the crossovers or the tweeters, but didn't have much choice. The speakers sound ok, nowhere near as much bass as the old speakers, I find I have to crank up the bass on the amp more to get the same effect in the front, which gives out too much bass in the rear doors now. The speakers sound clear, I was expecting a better result considering the worn speaker was 10 years old, had gotten damp and ripped? Either the recommendation on the site was wrong, or I was supposed to replace everything including the crossovers, which seemed pointless, all I needed was a new woofer. Glad I bought the jeep adapter plates, still had to figure out some brackets to mount everything, but that went quick.
    Pros:
Probably good speakers, the sound is crisp and clear
    Cons:
As mentioned, disappointed with the bass response on most of the music I listen to.

I got a whole entry level system for my sons truck. All Sound Ordinance; 4 speakers, 4 channel amp and the 8 inch sub connected with a JVC head unit. I was not to impressed when i opened the boxes but i thought lets give them a shot. After everthing was connected I was blown away with how good it was for the price. You will not win any sound audio contests but if you want a good everyday audio system you will not be disappointed. PS: That little 8 inch sub is awesome I just wish it had mounting brackets.
    Pros:
    Everything.
    Cons:
    Nothing yet.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was optomistic when I ordered these speakers. I made custom door panels to mount them. I bought 2 sets of these. They came with a bunch of different mounts for the tweeters but I chose to use the flush mount. These sound great. I have a Kenwood 60 watt x 4 head unit and can't turn it up past half way. They are pretty loud with no distortion. The tweeters sound great. Not as bright as everyone else says. I decided to use the 0db setting. The woofers actually have a good bit of bass to them. I plan to use them for my highs and mid range speakers as i am waiting on 2 10" pyles and a 1400 watt amp to go behind my rear seat of my crew cab silverado.

These speakers work well so far, i don't have my amp or receiver hooked up yet so i can't really tell too much of a difference. I can tell that the sound is more clear coming out of them, the crossover made a big difference. My stock speakers had the same signal going to the woofer and the tweeter, so that is probably why is sounds better. that is why i only gave it 4 stars. I don't know the full potential yet.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are far better than the stock speakers in my old Sienna's "Premium" package but the tweeters are so bright it's hard to turn the volume up without hurting my ears even with the treble turned all the way down. The bass is very weak. Adding an amp (Alpine powerpack) helped the bass. Adding a small sub (Sound ordinance PT8, very nice by the way) helped too but they're still too bright. I wish I would have spent an extra $50-$100 on a set of brand name component speakers.

Bought this set for the front and the P65 set for the rear of my wife's 04 Chevy
Colorado. Got the job done within a couple of hours. I did not expect to hear
what came out from the oem radio/cd player... it was an awesome "full and
clear sound"! I was amazed. It sounded better than the Alpine system I had put
in my Chevy Avalanche a few months ago. By the way, the instructions I
recieved with my speakers were very easy to follow with great illustrations.
Thanks for a great product at a great price. The attention shown in details

These Sound Ordance Component Speakers are the Bomb! Sound as good as
advertised, and the wife loves them in her Grand Am. The sound quality with the
separate tweeter is better than with the original integrated speakers. The installation
guide was excellent at what needed to be removed in order to replace the rear deck
    speakers.
They sound so good, I'm getting some for my vehicle and would gladly recommend
    them to anyone.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They are made to look a lot more beefy in the pics, than in person. The first problem i had was they are smaller than my factory 6.5 holes in my front doors, so i had to fabricate the door to make them fit. Once installed and wired up to an mtx amp putting out 50 watts a channel i was even more dissappointed, my 5.25 jl woofer outperforms these 6.5's in every aspect, and r nearly the same size. The tweeters were placed on the dash at first but i couldnt even sit in the car they were so bright and harsh, so i ended up putting them down in the kickpanels, which helped to an extent, but still with them set at -3 they were still harsh. Oh yeah i read someone else say they had problems with looose speaker terminals, well so did I , both woofer terminals snapped off and dangle which causes a nice rattle. After being unable to tweak these to make them tolerable i ended up taking out the woofer alll together, and replacing it with my 15 year old jl audio vr 5.25 woofer and changed out the croosover units as well, and wow what a difference that made. With the tweeter on the jl crossover they lost there bright, harsh sound and paird with the jl woofer they make a good pair. Just wish when i spent my money on these i could of actually used the woofer and crossover, but instead i ended up paying this much for a set of tweeters, cause thats all i use from the set /

i have to say that i am really surprised that these speakers are very nice. they sound very accurate and clear. i got components so for my specific vehicle the tweeters are a bit bright. however the crossovers have a -3db setting which is nice but -6db for my car would be better. i am really happy that the sound is so realistic, if you are listening to high quality cd's it sounds very much like you are really there. but being 6.5" there is no low-end which is just the compromise that you have to make. crutchfield put there name with this brand and i knew that i would not be disappointed, i will recommend to all of my friends.
