My system has plenty of power. Who needs an amp?

You might think you don't need an amp because you have a 400-watt system in your car, or because your new stereo puts out 50 watts a channel. But those are peak wattage ratings, which may boil down to 15 or 20 watts per channel, using the more realistic RMS rating. The R250-1 mono amp powers your subwoofers with up to 250 watts RMS so you will feel the bass. A low-pass filter and Rockford Fosgate's famous Punch bass boost lets you adjust your bass for your enclosure and vehicle. A phase switch gets your subs to work together with the rest of your car's audio system for maximum impact. A wired remote lets you control the amp's volume level from the front seat, allowing you to adjust the bass for different types of music.

Features

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate R250-1 Prime 250 watt mono-channel amplifier is designed to power one or two subwoofers. The R250-1 is designed with specific features to power your subwoofers with a frequency range between 20-130 Hz. This amplifier is not designed to power a full-range speaker.

CEA 2006 Compliant: The Rockford Fosgate R250-1 Prime's power ratings are measured according to the strict standards dictated by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards allow you to accurately compare the rated power output of all CEA 2006-compliant amplifiers, even if they come from different brands. Manufacturers who adhere to the standards can display the CEA 2006 logo on their products and packaging.

4-Ohm Mono: 150 watts RMS x 1-channel in 4-ohm @ 20-130Hz with 1% THD
2-Ohm Mono: 250 watts RMS x 1-channel in 2-ohm @ 20-130Hz with 1% THD

MOSFET Power: The Rockford R250-1 is equipped with a MOSFET power supply and output stage for good sound, efficiency and dependability.

LED Indicators: The Rockford Fosgate amplifier is equipped with two side-mounted LED indicators.

Power LED: This LED illuminates green when the unit is turned on.
Protect LED: This LED illuminates red if a short circuit or too low of an impedance is detected at the speaker connections. The amplifier will automatically shut down if this occurs.

Mounting: The amplifier can be mounted vertically or horizontally using the supplied mounting screws. The amplifier should never be mounted upside down or in an engine compartment (this will void your warranty).

Controls

Gain Control: The amplifier's gain control is preset to match the output of most source units. The gain control can be adjusted from 150mV to 8V.

Low-Pass Crossover: The amplifier features a built-in 12dB/octave Butterworth low-pass filter with a crossover point variable from 40 to 130Hz.

Phase: The phase switch allows you to select the output phase of the amplifier between 0-degrees and 180-degrees to match the rest of your vehicle's speaker system.

Punch Bass: This is a Punch bass control on the amplifier that is adjustable up to 12dB at a fixed 45Hz.

Remote Punch Level Control: When the wired remote Punch Level Control is connected to the R250-1, the gain control of the amplifier is link and allows you to remotely control the output level of the amplifier from the dash or center console of your vehicle. The wired remote Punch Level Control module features a rotary dial can comes supplied with mounting hardware and a 16.5' connector cable.

Connections

Power/Ground Terminals: The power and ground terminals are nickel-plated screw terminals and will accommodate up to 4 AWG power/ground wire (up to 1/2" spade or ring-style connector).

Remote Turn-On Terminal: The remote turn-on terminal is a nickel-plated screw terminal that will accommodate up to an 8 AWG wire (up 3/8" spade or ring-style connector). This terminal is used to remotely turn-on and turn-off the amplifier when +12V DC is applied, when connected to your headunit's remote turn-on lead. .

Speaker Terminals: The amplifier is equipped with two pairs of speaker terminals for an easy parallel subwoofer connection. The four speaker terminals (left +/- and right +/-) are heavy duty, nickel-plated screw-terminals what will accommodate up to 8 AWG speaker wire (up to 3/8" spade or ring-style connectors).

RCA Input Jacks: The industry standard RCA jacks provide an easy connection for signal level input. They are nickel-plated to resist signal degradation caused by corrosion.

RCA Output Jacks: This pair of RCA pass-thru jacks provide a convenient source for daisy-chaining an additional amplifier without running an extra set of RCA cable from the front of your vehicle to the rear amplifier location. They are nickel-plated to resist signal degradation caused by corrosion.

Punch Level Control: 3.5mm input for connecting the supplied Punch Level Control module.

Fuse: The amplifier is equipped with one installed 30-amp ATC fuse. The amplifier also comes supplied with a spare 30-amp fuse.

Good sounding amp

Ordered this amp with one rockford fosgate 10 inch sub also available on the site for my 2008 lincoln mkz. After buying a Pioneer touchscreen head unit and installing everything very satisfied with the sound. The stock speakers in my mkz aren't bad at all so with the 10" sub thats rated at 150 watts its the perfection combination of deep excellent sounding bass that doesn't overpower the vocals, which i seem to have been seeing alot of with friends systems.

Pros:

Absolutey love the gain controller that came in box with the amp ran the wire in my door sill to the front and attached it using velcroe about 5 inches down and 3 inches to the left of my steering wheel, and love being able to control how much power my sub is getting without having to go to my trunk and manually do it.

Cons:

I have had everything installed for about a month now with no problems. If any occur ill be sure to come back and explain, but for now completely happy!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I thought this would be a great amp to go with my 10" bazooka tube, but after hooking everything up, it does not work. The protect light is on and there is power going to the unit. I tested the tube and hooked up another speaker to it and tried again, still nothing. Called Crutchfield tech support, they were very helpful, but they told me they have discontinued this product so i can not exchanger for a new one. Wonder why. I will look at another brand amp for my tube.

Do Your Homework!

This is a quality amp for entry level car audio enthusiasts (that's me). It gives an honest 250 RMS which is plenty for one or two subs. Do your homework though. It will not sound great if you are trying to power a sub that's rated for 300 - 600 RMS. This amp performs as advertised. You will get good deep bass, but it will not rattle your car to pieces.

Price, Sound Quality, Performance

Cons:

It's a big amp for the power rating

Great Amp!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have to admit I'm truly amazed at the power this amp pushes out. I have it
pared up with a single Kicker 10C124 connected up to my factory system in my
06 Vibe. I'm really surprised even being a factory system how well this amp
produces the lows. The first one I received worked for about 2 weeks but
apparently had a defect. The fuse blew one morning but had no issues with
Crutchfield shipping me a replacement. The replacement actually came
quicker than the agent quoted. Don't let this discourage you I mean really this
isn't a perfect world. I've had the replacement for nearly a year and haven't had
any issues. As a matter of fact I have a second one on order right now for my
other car. If you don't like to drown out your music with bass but still have a
solid punch this is the amp to go with for a sub I mentioned above. I'm very
pleased!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This amp didn't work for me,After I installed it, It started smoking out the sides.
I had it installed locally and they said it was defective and underpowered for my one 10" Alpine type R sub. Crutchfield took it back no problem,

Maybe it works if you just want a little bass or if you are pairing it up with low end subs..
I needed something more powerful to beat my sub daily..

Will not recommend.

The Rockford Fosgate 250-1 is a great Amp. From the factory it comes with a certificate that shows that they test every amp before it leaves the factory. Mine is rated at 273 watts RMS on the sheet, this to me shows that Rockford amps can push almost any sub very hard. The 250-1 sounds great, has good thump, and is very clean sounding.

A great Amp!

This amp does it's job very well. The wiring was simple, as expected, the controls are exactly as described, and the remote gain knob is very convenient. Paired with a Bazooka sub, this amp delivers nice and deep base. No noise or distortion noticed, and the amp stays relatively cool when powered on (Note: At no point was i blasting this amp to the max, so if you like everyone in a two-mile range to hear the kick drum of your music, you should be in a different boat). The styling is also pretty sleek! I installed this in a '04 Honda Civic and it fit nicely in the trunk, mounted on of a custom carpeted board that i screwed into the side of the trunk. Overall, I was very pleased with this amp's performance and its clear and deep base. Not the most powerful amp out there, but then again, you already know that! Highly recommended product!
