I plugged it into the charger and when it was charged I put it into my camera. It works! Beware of similar batteries from other manufacturers. These are notorious for running out of power quickly and difficult to recharge, if it will recharge at all.
Pros:
Nikon brand. Powers up Nikon D5100.
Cons:
Eventually after weeks of use the power mysteriously disappears and you will be forced to recharge it for an hour or so. But if you buy two of these batteries that won't interfere with your picture taking activities.

Needed a back up battery for our company camera. Many sites have off-brand knockoffs with misleading descriptions (bait and switch), so I was relieved to find the real deal. As a first-time customer, I was pleasantly surprised at the EXCEPTIONAL level of customer I received. Item was shipped and delivered in a timely manner (ordered Fri, rec'd Tues). Customer service was pleasant and helpful when I called in with a question regarding my order. Will look here first for all future electronic needs...personal and professional!!!

Fast delivery, great customer service, easy ordering process, product was EXACTLY what I ordered (no off-brand or bait-and-switch)

I was able to take over 2000 pictures on a Safari before I had to change to a new battery. This includes taking continuous shots of moving objects.
