Class D Amplifier Design: The Kicker IX500.1 (2011 version) is a
mono-block Class D amplifier, which uses digital switching to amplify audio signals. This
design results in high efficiency and less heat. The Class D design also allows
the IX500.1 to have a very small footprint for ease of installation.
Mono-Power Amp Design: The Kicker IX500.1 is designed with
specific features to power your subwoofers with a frequency range between 25-200
Hz. The amplifier can handle impedance loads down to 2 ohms. The amplifier is
rated at 275 watts x 1 channel RMS @ 4 ohms (25-200 Hz, 1% THD). At 2 ohms, the
amp is rated at 500 watts x 1 channel RMS
(25-200 Hz, 1% THD).
Note: This amplifier is not designed for full-range operation.
Power Supply: The Kicker IX-series mono subwoofer amplifiers
use a boost-converter power supply for the highest sound quality and efficiency.
Boost-converter technology allows the amp to achieve efficiency of more than
90%. Because there are fewer internal parts, the amp has a smaller form factor,
and results in cooler operation, better reliability, and overall excellent
performance.
CEA 2006 Compliant: The Kicker IX500.1's power ratings are
measured according to the strict standards dictated by the Consumer Electronics
Association (CEA). These standards allow you to accurately compare the rated
power output of all CEA 2006-compliant amplifiers, even if they come from
different brands. Manufacturers who adhere to the standards can display the CEA
2006 logo on their products and packaging.
Kicker Livin' Loud Certified Power Certificate: The
amplifier comes with a certificate that indicates the total maximum wattage of
the particular amplifier, along with the model number, serial number, tested
date, and whether the amplifier passed the total harmonic distortion,
signal-to-noise ratio, and protection circuit tests.
Low Pass Filter: The Kicker IX500.1 is equipped with a
selectable electronic crossover. This continuously variable low pass filter can
be set between 50 Hz and 200 Hz with a slope of 24dB per octave. Properly set,
the low pass filter creates a smooth transition between the subwoofer and the
sound system's full-range speakers.
Subsonic Filter: The amp features a 24 dB/octave subsonic
filter fixed at 25 Hz. Ultra-low frequencies that cannot be reproduced by a
subwoofer do not become sound but become unnecessary oscillations, which affect
sound by causing distortion. These frequencies also waste amplifier power and
can cause damage to speakers. The built-in subsonic filter cuts the frequencies
below 25 Hz to improve the reproduction performance of the speakers by
eliminating harmful distortion.
Note: The subsonic filter is not defeatable.
Auto Turn-On: The 3-way Auto Turn-On switch offers three options:
- +12 V: The amp turns on when +12 volts is applied to
the remote terminal.
- DC Offset: The amp turns on when a 6 volt surge
is detected on the signal inputs (from a speaker-level source); in this mode
the amp's remote terminal acts as a +12 volt output to turn on another
component.
- Audio: The amp turns on when an incoming audio signal
is detected; in this mode the amp's remote terminal acts as a +12 volt
output to turn on another component.
Input Level Control: To
accommodate the varying range of signal levels coming from today's factory and
aftermarket radios, the Kicker IX500.1 features a switchable input level control.
When the switch is set to Low
level, the amp can accommodate an input signal of 125mV-5V. At High level, the
amp will accept 250mV-10V signals. This means that no matter what kind
of radio is connected to this amplifier, the appropriate gain control adjustment
can be made to ensure loud, clear, distortion-free music.
Gain Control: With the Input Level Control switch at the
appropriate setting, you can set the rotary Gain Control to match the output of
the source unit. The Gain Control adjusts with a flat-head screwdriver, and can
be set between 0 and 11.
KICKEQ Bass Boost: When you want more bass out of the
amplifier, you can adjust the KICKEQ Bass Boost control. The bass boost is
centered at 40 Hz, and can be adjusted between 0 and 18dB.
ZXRC Remote Bass Control: The IX500.1 comes with the ZXRC
Remote Bass Control, which allows you to control the output level of the
amplifier from the front of your vehicle. The wired remote bass level control
comes with a mounting bracket to mount it under your dash. The supplied 20'
cable, with RJ-25 phone plugs at each end, connects the wired remote bass level
control to the amplifier.
Note: The ZXRC Remote Bass Control measures 2.25" wide x
1.25" high x 2.375" deep.
Soft-Start Circuitry: The Kicker IX500.1 contains "soft-start"
circuitry that lessens initial shock load when powering up the amplifier, and a
muting circuit to eliminate audio distortion that might surge down the line.
Protection Circuitry: The IX500.1 has protection
circuitry that will turn the amp off in the event of overheating, over voltage
(power input), under voltage (power input), short circuit (speaker output), and
over current (speaker output). If the Protection LED on the front side of the
amp illuminates red, the protection circuit has engaged and the amp will not
play until the problem is resolved.
Stackable: The optional Kicker IXSM stacking mount (206IXSM,
sold separately) allows you to stack two Kicker IX-series amplifiers on top of
one another.
Connections
Power Connections: The power and ground connections are
set-screw terminals that will accommodate up to 4-gauge wire. The remote turn-on
set-screw terminal will accept up to 8-gauge wire. The included 3mm Hex key is
required to tighten/loosen the terminals.
Speaker Outputs: The Kicker IX500.1 is equipped with
one
pair of speaker terminals. Both speaker terminals are set-screw terminals
that will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. The supplied 3mm Hex key is required
to tighten/loosen the terminals.
RCA Input Connector: The
amplifier is equipped
with one pair of RCA inputs, which can be used for a line level or speaker level
input signal. If the source device doesn't have preamp level outputs, the
ZS-ZISL speaker wire to RCA adapter is needed and the Input Level switch should be set to High.
Line Level Output: The amplifier has a pair of RCA line level outputs for feeding a
signal to another amplifier. It is the same signal that is input through the
line inputs. The amplifier's crossovers have no effect on the line level output
signal, however, if the input signal is crossed over at the source unit, the
filtered signal will be passed on to the second amplifier.
