Yamaha

Our take on the Yamaha CD-C600

by Loren Barstow

The Yamaha CD-C600 couples the convenience of a multi-disc changer with the performance of a single-disc player. Pop in up to five of your favorite CDs for hours of non-stop serious listening or background music while entertaining guests. This versatile player handles regular CDs, plus your MP3 and WMA mix discs. And you can swap out four of the discs without interrupting playback of the fifth, so the music doesn't stop while you cue up the next few selections.

The CD-C600's sophisticated internal design includes isolated power supplies for the digital and analog sections, a high-quality digital-to-analog converter, and short signal paths that minimize the chances of interference or signal loss. The end result is richly detailed sound with engaging warmth and musicality. You can improve sound quality even further with Pure Direct mode, which turns off the front panel display and the digital audio output to eliminate sources of potential noise.

You can also connect your iPod® to the CD-C600 via the front panel USB port. This lets you take advantage of the player's high-performance digital-to-analog converter — a big improvement over the iPod's built-in DAC — for the best sound quality from your portable music library.

Picked the right multi-disc cd player

Written By GeraldW, Little Rock, AR on Thursday, May 16, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product does what I want it to do without any problems at all. That is to play a continous steam of music of my choice without having to change the cd after only one has played. Presently, this represents over 5 hours of music. Other than the music itself, the only sound made is when a disc is automatically changed. This is not a distraction for me. This cd player has a lot of options in selecting the music to be played. I do not avail myself of these options as I have no need to. This is any excellant product.
    Pros:
It does what it is supposed to do: play music for a period of five cds.
    Cons:
    None for me.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The CD-C600 is a good CD player. It' pretty much does what you would expect from a 5 disk player. Plays 5 disks or shuffles the music. It also has a good frequency response. But what I like most is the USB port on the front. I have downloaded all of my music onto a Flash Drive. I plug the Flash Drive into the USB port and put it on shuffle. It plays music all evening. Great way to entertain. Start the music and forget about it.
    Pros:
Sounds good and looks good. It has all of the features you need in a CD player. And again the Crutchfield team helped me to make the right choice.
    Cons:
    Nothing.

Replaced an old 6 disc changer that was skipping. Still have too many CDs not to use the mix feature of a multi-disc system. As always, Crutchfield was helpful with its reviews to allow me to select a replacement. The systmen was easy to set up and the sound is great. No problems.
    Pros:
    Easy setup and sound quality.

    CD's Sound Great!

Written By LeeR, Jupiter, FL on Thursday, March 07, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Many years ago, I sold hi-fi products for a living. That was when cassettes and records were the medium. I still have a reconditioned pair of AR 10 Pie speakers and a newer Onkyo, 100 watt/channel, receiver. I did not think that upgrading from an old Teac CD player, and then an old Fisher CD player would make an audible difference...I was definitely wrong!

The Yamaha C-600 is great! The sound it produces brings out subtle nuances (i.e., harps in Mozart, reverb in pop tunes) that I never heard before. My only regret is that I waited so long.
    Pros:
Wonderful sound, Easy to program...all I could expect and more.
    Cons:
I don't have a problem loading any CD's , as some other reviewers have expressed.

So far, I will give this unit a high rating. Over the years I have had multiple CD players. There are 3 in my house now. This Yamaha is replacing a Denon changer that stopped working. The features are an improvement over the Denon. I would wait a few years before commenting as I want to see how it lasts. I liked the Denon but that brand just does not seem to last. The Denon stopped performng certain functions and for the "name and reputation" I would not have expected such to happen. I am hop[ing this Yamaha proves a bit longer lasting.
    Pros:
great sound, great price, otherwise too soon to compare

    so far none

"The Yamaha CD-C600" "ABSOLUTELY LOVING IT"

Written By Nicholas, Long Island, New York on Thursday, May 10, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Yamaha CD-C600 Changer has been installed in my home system for about 4 weeks now. I am asbsolutely loving the audio performance of this changer. It delivers the most "optimal" combination of detail with warmth and that emotional engagement of listening pleasure. Some other changers boast amaziing specs. However, those changer/players do not deliver emotional impact! The Yamaha CD-C600 DOES. The mechanics operate rather smoothly as well. One would think it is a CD changer that costs 2 or 3 times the price.
    Pros:
Great emotional musical delivery and smooth mechanical operation!!
    Cons:
    No real cons to mention.

    Fine player

Written By Joe, Los Angeles on Wednesday, May 02, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent sound, good enough ease of use. Wish it had easier to read control designations on the main unit. Too tiny. Almost invisible. Also, a fault of all such gear, power plug requires an couple of extra inches of space in the back to fit an already deep unit into anything less than about 20 inches. Should have a right angle connector for power in the back. Would save an inch or more.
    Pros:
Sound quality. Nice big disk numbers on the carousel inside the unit. I have not tried the USB input, but if it works, will be a big plus.
    Cons:
Poor ergonomics on the main unit controls. Power cord makes the unit a few inches longer for fitting into a space.

I have owned a Sony, Teac, and JVC, all 3 combined would not out perform this baby. It reads and plays every type disc I throw in her. She offers more programming than I will ever use. Do not be concerned about the difficulty of loading #5 disc, it ain't rocket science. Most importantly is the sound...clear crisp full, pair it with a proper receiver with sound fields and you get a unit that ROCKS!

Written By MarkW, Philadelphia, PA on Saturday, March 03, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After listening to a JVC DVD changer for 3 years this player has a different sound. Bass seams a touch more forward. And midrange a bit more pronounced. Acoustic guitar comes through clear and more up front in the sound stage. Overall the sound is very pleasing no complaints. I have only been listening to this unit for a three weeks.
    Pros:
More articulated sound than my last player. Bass more robust but not overly so. Simple clean controls on the front face and remote. Matches my 25 year old Yamaha T-7 tuner perfectly.
    Cons:
    None so far.

    Great CD-C600

Written By Molly, Laguna Beach, CA on Monday, August 29, 2011

When my eight year old Sony 5 disc CD player died on July 4th, I decided to return to another Yamaha CD player which pairs with my Yamaha RX-777 receiver. I couldn't be happier. The sound and the operation are great as is the price given all of its wonderful features. As a music lover, I cannot recommend Yamaha products more highly.
