Alpine

My system has plenty of power. Who needs an amp?

You might think you don't need an amp because you have a 400-watt system in your car, or because your new stereo puts out 50 watts a channel. But those are peak wattage ratings, which may boil down to 15 or 20 watts per channel, using the more realistic RMS rating. An amp sends your speakers the power they need to deliver your music with clarity and impact, whether you're using factory speakers or high-performance components. And low-frequency reproduction requires lots of power, so an amp is an absolute must if you're adding a sub to your system.

Our take on the Alpine MRP-M350

by Erin Blanton
Alpine Authorized Online Dealer

Thanks to impressive power output, affordable pricing, and exceptional reliability, Alpine's V-Power amps are consistently among our best-selling models. The MRP-M350 mono amplifier gives you awesome bang for your buck, and sports some "extras" that you'd usually find only on higher-priced amps!

Hook up the MRP-M350 to one 4-ohm sub, and you get 200 watts RMS; connect a second 4-ohm subwoofer and the power output increases to 350 watts! All that juice means that your subs won't just be loud, they'll sound clean and musical, too. A variable low-pass crossover lets you tune the output to match your particular sub setup.

The 15 Hz subsonic filter eliminates very low notes (those that are too low to hear) from your system, so your bass won't sound muddy. Plus, you'll want to take advantage of the BassEQ — an adjustable bass boost of up to 12 dB at 50 Hz! Speaker-level inputs allow you the flexibility to hook up the MRP-M350 to just about any system, and gold-plated terminals ensure that you get clean signal transfer both into and out of the amp.

Highlights:

  • 200 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (350 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms)
  • low-pass filter (50-200 Hz, 24 dB/octave)
  • variable Bass EQ bass boost (0-12 dB at 50 Hz)
  • subsonic filter (15 Hz)
  • MOSFET power supply
  • preamp- and speaker-level inputs
  • blue power LED
  • extra-large gold-plated terminals
  • 8-gauge power and ground leads recommended — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier
  • 9-3/16"W x 2-7/16"H x 9-9/16"D
  • warranty: 1 year

    Features
    Inputs and Outputs

    Features

Class D Design: The MRP-M350 is a Class D amplifier, which operates more efficiently by turning more voltage into useable power, and generating less heat.

Power Supply: The power supply uses MOSFETs  to convert DC battery voltage to the higher DC voltages needed for high power. It supplies positive and negative voltages around 0V, rather than around 6V as with conventional single-polarity power supplies. The result is higher power levels and a dynamic range wider by as much as 10dB.

Low Pass Crossover: The internal crossover is a 24dB/octave low pass filter variable from 50Hz to 200Hz. There is no on/off switch for this crossover, thus it is constantly active.

Subsonic Filter: This amp utilizes a 15Hz subsonic filter to eliminate super low frequencies that can rob power and damage speakers.

Bass EQ: The Bass EQ circuit provides a boost of 0-12dB at 50 Hz.

Inputs: The amplifier offers both line-level and speaker level inputs. The supplied speaker-level input harness allows you to connect this amplifier to a receiver without preamp outputs, either aftermarket or factory.

RCA Cover: The amp comes with a plastic cover that protects and insulates the RCA connections. Two supplied machine screws attach the cover to the amplifier.

    Inputs and Outputs

    Left Side Of Amplifier:

    • GND (ground): Gold-plated terminal strip, 0.33" wide
    • Battery: Gold-plated terminal strip, 0.33" wide
    • Remote: Gold-plated terminal strip, 0.33" wide
    • Speaker Outputs: Gold-plated terminal strips for 1 speaker, 0.33" wide

    Right Side Of Amplifier:

    • Line Input: Gold-plated stereo RCA jacks
    • Speaker Level Input: Molex plug input for included harness

Powerful little guy, and well worth it.

Written By Jacob, SE Idaho on Saturday, January 19, 2013

I bought this amp used on craigslist, not expecting much since I didn't pay much being that it was already a few years old. I was pleasantly surprised. I have had it pushing 1 Memphis 15" at 4ohm for the last year and man does it hit hard. It fits perfectly under my rear seat in my SUV, and has performed beautifully. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for one.
    Pros:
    Compact, Efficient, Powerful
    Cons:
    None yet.

After 8 years of faithful service...

Written By Grogel, Lake Charles, LA on Sunday, November 04, 2012

I received this amplifier as a gift for my 17th birthday 8 years ago. In that time I've had to replace two subwoofers and transplant the entire system to a new vehicle. This amplifier has greatly exceeded my initial expectations and I could not be happier with Alpine's quality engineering.

The folicile eradicating power this amp outputs is impressive for its small form factor. It packs a massive punch when wired to a Type-R 10" 4 ohm dual voice coil wire in parallel. The single sub is all I have ever needed in both of my extended cab trucks. The sound quality is superb all around.

This amp has solidified my future business with Alpine. I am very happy with this product.
    Pros:
Lifetime++ Exceeded the warranty by 7 years and still going strong.
    Cons:
Does not drive the vehicle for me (I'm just kidding here).

This amp is a sleeper. They say good things come in small packages, this amp proves that. I've got it pushing 1 15' Kicker Cvr. This amp amazed me , clean low bass. Didn't even have to max out the Gain. A definite Best Seller.

The best of the best = Alpine

This amp is awesome... I couldn't be happier. I'm pushing a single 12" Alpine Type S DVC (4 ohm), wired in parrell dropping it to 2 ohm. The amp is pushing 350w RMS and it packs a punch. Excellent clean sound quality, minimal space usage...you can't beat this amp. Try to find a high quality amp with this much power for anywhere near this price - you can't do it. Another great thing about is that its small enough to fit underneath my seat and never once has it gotten hot. Great job Alpine. Thanks Crutchfield

    Best quality & power-to-price ratio you'll find

Written By zero2dash, Fenton, MO on Monday, February 13, 2006
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this amp without hearing it too much based primarily on prior Alpine experience, but also because of the power it puts out and the low price. Buying Alpine products is a pretty safe bet considering their quality and history - and this amp is no exception. I have this pushing 2 JL Audio 10w1v2-4ohm subs (RMS of 150 each) wired in parallel (which is a 350w RMS 4ohm output) and let me tell you - this amp is worth every penny, especially compared to similar powered amps by other companies that cost two to three times as much. Excellent clean sound quality, minimal space usage...you can't beat this amp. Try to find a high quality amp with this much power for anywhere near this price - you can't do it.

This amplifier exceeded my expectations by a long shot! I have always been very careful to read all the reviews BEFORE I buy any product. When I read all the reviews for this amplifier they were great. I would recommend this product to anyone who needs a good punch of bass in their system but doesn't want to pay a bundle. I would definitely rate this amplifier up with the 'big boys'.

    Alpine MRP-M350

Written By poppinwillys, Crestview Florida on Thursday, January 05, 2006

I purchased this amp because I was tired of dealing with cheap stuff for an example and I had always heard good stuff about alpine. Now I see why. This amp hits clean and hard. Really clean and Really hard. I have it hooked up to two mtx thunder 4000 12's. Im not exactly into blowing out my neighbors and everyong else on the road. But I can dang sure do it with that amp if I so desired. I've had it hooked up to a kenwood 12 and my friends 12's in a box, and it pushes eveything awsomely. In fact it hit so hard it makes his back window leak now. Why you would want something that loud I still dont understand, but I'll be the first to admit its really impressive. So you can go spend 500+ on a great amp or you can get this one for 179 and as long as its not were you can see it, You will never know the difference. So....go buy one..you wont be sorry.

    Take my word for it!

Written By mike, Slidell La on Thursday, December 29, 2005

Like another reviewer I also work in the car audio buisness and am also a MECP certified installer. And like him I sell ALOT of these amps where I work also. We use them on 2 type e subs or 1 type r and they push those speakers better than the P4004 (thats 400 rms!) Rockfords and at about $100 cheaper! Trust me this amp with 2 type e alpines and you are good 2 go. Customers that I recommend this amp to look at me crazy because its so small, then I take them outside to my co workers s-10 with it and 2 type e 10's and thats a wrap. SOLD! And unlike the v power amps (also very good amps) they dont need a 4 volt input to be at their best. I created an account just to let you all know just how BAAAD these amps are!

No disappointments for the money. Running it into 2 ohms on a sealed 10" in my trunk and only need about half of its gain or it overpowers the front speakers. Sounds clean and would definitely buy again.

    Unbelievable

Written By JPeabody, Rogers, AR on Friday, December 09, 2005

Just like everyone else who has this mini beast, I was a little skeptical before I hooked it up. I have it running to 2 10" JBL GT 100's, and it blew me away. The sound quality is uncomparable to what it sounded like before. I have it at 2 ohms and it is pushing somewhere around 350 watts. I can't believe how much louder it is! I would highly recommend this amp for the price. No dissappointments here!

I got this amp to power my 12" Kicker L5 solo baric. I thought it wouldnt be enough power to push that sub to what i wanted but it came through with amazing power, and it has increased the accuracy of my sub. The digital controls definitley make it easier to fix your amp settings. This is all around just a great amp reccomended buy for everyone.
