Why choose a pre-matched speaker system?

Looking for speakers that'll deliver thrilling, edge-of-your-seat surround sound? Choosing a pre-matched speaker system is one way to ensure seamless home theater performance. These systems are made up of speakers that share the same tonal characteristics — that means the sound will stay consistent as it moves from speaker to speaker around your room. Most pre-matched systems come with a subwoofer — a must-have for high-impact bass.

    Features

Overview: The ENERGY Take Classic 5-Channel Speaker Package features four matching satellite speakers and a center-channel satellite speaker. The satellite and center speaker's 3-inch poly-titanium woofer and .75-inch hyperbolic aluminum-dome tweeter focuses sound for clearer dialogue and music. The ENERGY Take Classic 5-Channel Speaker Package utilizes proprietary technology and high quality components that allow you to enjoy natural and accurate music reproduction. The satellite and center-channel speakers each feature a high-gloss black finish that look great with contemporary flat panels. Gold plated binding-posts ensure positive connection for high performance.

Flat On-Axis Frequency Response With Wide Bandwidth: The ENERGY 5-Channel Speaker Package reproduces its entire audio range in a uniform manner. By ensuring that no one frequency dominates any other, the Take Classic 5-Channel Speaker Package ensures that every note is the way it was intended to be, and the sound as natural as possible.

Wide and Constant Dispersion: The Take Classic 5-Channel Speaker Package provides an even pattern sound at all its frequencies in all directions throughout the room.

Low Distortion Resonance: No speaker system is distortion or resonance-free, but the ENERGY 5-Channel Speaker Package has achieved a significantly lower distortion level with a clearly audible improvement.

4 Matching Satellite Speakers: The ENERGY Take Classic 5-Channel Speaker Package features four matching satellite speakers. The satellite speakers feature a 0.75" Hyperbolic Aluminum-Dome tweeter and 3.0" Poly-Titanium Cone woofer with a rubber surround inside a magnetically shielded bass-reflex enclosure with a rear firing port. The speakers are rated at 8-ohm. The satellite speakers have a frequency response of 115 to 20,000 Hz. Each satellite speaker features a high-gloss black finish, a removal cloth grille, gold-plated binding-post terminals (accommodates up to 15 AWG speaker wire), and a rear-mounted key-hole slot for wall-mounting (mounting screws not supplied). There is also a 1/4"-20 threaded insert on the back of the speaker for wall-mounting the satellites using an optional bracket (sold separately). The satellite speakers can also be placed and secured on optional speaker stands or shelves using the supplied self-adhesive rubber feet.

Center-Channel Satellite Speaker: The ENERGY Take Classic 5-Channel Speaker Package's matching center-channel speaker is larger than the four matching satellite speakers and should be mounted horizontally. The center-channel speaker features a 0.75" Hyperbolic Aluminum-Dome tweeter and 3.0" Poly-Titanium Cone woofer with a rubber surround inside a magnetically shielded bass-reflex enclosure with dual front-firing ports. The speaker is rated at 8-ohm. The center-channel speaker has a frequency response of 110-20,000 Hz. The center-channel satellite speaker features a high-gloss black finish, a removal cloth grille, gold-plated binding-post terminals (accommodates up to 15 AWG speaker wire), and two rear-mounted key-hole slots for wall-mounting (mounting screws not supplied). There is also a 1/4"-20 threaded insert on the back of the speaker for wall-mounting the center-channel using an optional bracket (sold separately). The center-channel speaker can also be placed and secured on an optional speaker stand or shelf using the supplied self-adhesive rubber feet.

Speaker Placement: Speaker placement can be critical in the performance of any home theater speaker system. Follow these guidelines to get the most out of your ENERGY Take Classic 5-Channel Speaker Package.

    • Front Satellite Speakers: For best stereo imaging, the left and right speakers should be the same distance from their respective side walls. If the distance from one speaker to the listener is very different from the other, it can affect the soundstage or stereo imaging. Therefore, the ideal position is having the speakers equidistant to you, the listener.
    • Center-Channel Satellite Speaker: The center-channel can be expected to reproduce as much a 60% of a movie's soundtrack, most of which is dialogue. In order to maintain the effect of voices emanating from the actor's mouth, the center speaker should be centrally located between the left and right main channels and placed above or below the television. Be sure that the center speaker's front baffle is flush with the front face of the television or cabinet to maximize dispersion.
    • Surround Satellite Speakers: The surround speakers can be positioned in a variety of locations. The surround placement is usually dictated by the room, where the walls and room boundaries happen to be, and where speaker cable can be easily run. The most common surround speaker locations are the following:
      • Side Walls: For best results in side wall mounting applications, position the speaker adjacent to and slightly behind the primary listening area at a height of approximately 6 feet.
      • Rear Walls: For best results mounting on a rear wall, position the speakers so they flank the main listening area and point towards the front of the room. They should be raised to a height of approximately 6 feet and should ideally have a space of 6 feet between them.

Amplifier Requirements: The ENERGY Take Classic 5-Channel Speaker System is designed to operate on a wide range of AV receivers and/or amplifiers with a power rating of 20 to 100 watts continuous per channel. The impedance for all speakers is 8-ohms, allowing almost any amplifier to function well.  The recommended crossover setting for each speaker is "small" or 100 to 120Hz.

Break-In Period: ENERGY recommends that you break in this speaker package for 50 hours before playing the speaker at their full capabilities. This can be easily done by putting your compact disc player on Repeat mode, while playing a CD with a wide dynamic range at normal listening levels.

Cabinet Care: Great care and craftsmanship has gone into the constructions and finish of the speakers' cabinets. Periodically use the supplied soft, dry cloth to remove dust or fingerprints. Do not use paper towels or other abrasive material as it may damage the high-gloss finish.

Amazing for the price and size

Written By TXdirt, Dallas, TX on Sunday, May 19, 2013

Bought this system to replace some 10+ yr old sony surround speakers. I knew the difference would be big, but I was still impressed with the sound quality. I have a friend with Polk-Audio speakers that he paid about 3 times this much for and I can't hear anything different. Granted, I'm not an audio nut, but I watch a lot of movies so sound has to be good, these speakers delivered way more than expected for what I spent. I have a fairly large family room that is about 22' by 16' with 12' ceilings, and that is open to the kitchen so even more space to absorb sound... these handle the area without any issue. I'm pushing them with a 1 yr old Samsung receiver, which I picked up from Crutchfield last year.

    Awesome

Bought these as a replacement of some old Sony's. When I received them, I was instantly impressed by the high gloss finish. Was kind of skeptical on the speakers sound quality being the size of the cabinet. Got ever think hooked up to my new Yamaha receiver, put in a Blu Ray movie, messed around with the setting for a good Hr or so......Wow I was blown away. The sound quality was simply phenomenal the little cabinet impressed me. The highest were right there bright crisp. The Mids not so bad but the thing it's missing is no real lows. Yes the system doesn't come with a sub... But it is needed to give it the true impact of what the system can do. All in all awesome simply awesome.
    Pros:
Crisp clean bright high's. Small beautiful high gloss cabinets. Sound quality is amazing
    Cons:
A little lite on the Mid's, and no sub.

    For smaller rooms

Written By Al, Elk Grove, Ca on Thursday, December 06, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this for my family room, connected with a Denon 1913 and it wasn't that great. I found out that my family room was just too big for such small speakers. My room is 18 by 24 with 10 ft ceiling. It did produce great sounds, clear dialogue, great for movies but just not enough to fill a bigger room.
    Pros:
    Clear sounds
    Cons:
    Too small for bigger rooms

    Great Little Speaker Set

Written By GGFitz, Windsor, WI on Sunday, September 16, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers after considerable research online and, I could not find a bad review of them. I can see why. They sound and look great! This is my second home theater setup. The first one in my family room consists of Bose and Klipsch speakers and these sound every bit as good if not better than my much more expensive setup. They work especially well mounted to the Sanus HTB3b speaker stands. They are powered by a Yamaha RX-V671 receiver and, I could not be happier with this setup. Highly recommend these speakers.
    Pros:
    Great looks and great sound.

    Good, small, nice glossy black

Written By AshBash, Austin, TX on Thursday, September 13, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am happy with the Energy Take 5.0s. To put it into perspective, my main hifi system runs Martin Logan Electromotion ESLs from an EAR859 single-ended triode tube amp. Prior to the Martin Logans I ran Quad ESL 57s until they started popping and cracking due to arcing (they were made in the '70s, one of the last batch made).

Are the Energy Take 5.0s as good as electrostatics? Hell no! But what do you expect for $249! For the price they are very good, they are listenable, but they do sound a little too 'hifi' and not enough 'live people in the room' for my taste, but that's the nature of dynamic speakers, if you don't like it buy ESLs or Maggies. But for a simple home cinema system to make the sound of a LCD or plasma TV acceptable they are absolutely brilliant, you can't do better for the money. They were a little smaller than I imagined from seeing them on the website and YouTube, but the gloss black finish is nice and matches well with my gloss back Martin Logans and gloss black Yamaha piano. I bought the 5.0s because I use them with my REL Strata sub, you will need some sort of sub with these. Actually the REL maybe doesn't go quite high enough to seamlessly gel with the Energy Classics but it's what I already had. But if you buy the 5.0s you *will* need to spring for a sub if you don't already have one.

Recommended, you can buy better but not for anywhere near this price
    Pros:
Small, nice gloss black finish, decent sound
    Cons:
Small, only decent sound, possibly a little insensitive (I can't find any db/W numbers but the metal drivers seem to suck up power), 'speaker connectors could be better (can't take really fat 10AWG wire without bananas)

I'm giving the speaker set 4 stars only because I've only them had a couple of weeks and am still going thru the recommended break in period. So I haven't pushed volume levels to hear how they perform, but l've listened to music from Bach to Vanilla-Ice(:-)) and my ears are still smiling. I have not watched an entire movie yet, but what I've heard far is great.
    Pros:
Great sounding, great looking, and small enough to put where wanted.

    Perfect for the price!!

Written By D Nair, Peoria, IL on Friday, July 20, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking to replace some older satellite speakers from an inherited surround-sound system. As I had previously purchased a stand-alone powered subwoofer, I was in a bit of a dilemma as most speaker systems came complete with subwoofer. I was lucky to find the Energy Take 5.0 system, which exactly fit my needs. I have always had good shopping experiences with Crutchfield, and I was happy to find that Crutchfield also had the lowest price for this system (and no additional shipping fee!). Even with the recent power outage at their distribution center, Crutchfield had my order in my hands quite rapidly.
    Pros:
Excellent sound quality for this price range. Warm, full sound, which really fills my irregularly shaped living room.
    Cons:
Very shiny black speaker boxes that seem to be dust magnets. Not a problem for us, but may be for some.

This system sounds great. The quality is so high that I keep forgetting how inexpensive the speakers actually were. I purchased a matching Energy sub-woofer that was on sale and am thoroughly pleased with the entire system. I used 14 AWG wiring and had no issues connecting to the terminals.

I own this system with the matching powered sub ran by an Onkyo receiver. I have never heard surround sound so amazing. The mid's and high are so detailed and warm, and the sub creates very clean low bass. The speakers are also beautifully made, and are not too space consuming considering the big sound. Well worth the money!!!

There are many reviews on these speakers most of which are very good. I went in thinking that these would sound good but not great. People always say, oh they sound good for their price point. I would have to say you would be hard pressed to find better sound for under a 7 or 8 hundred dollars. They are absolutely crisp and clear and if you don't have an overly large room they will work great. Sound output is controlled and quite neutral until you crank it to deafening levels. I bought a pioneer reciever, Energy V8 sub, cables and wire for under a thousand out the door. In my opinion you just cant find a better sounding system for under a thousand bucks.

I purchased the Energy Take Classic 5.0 speakers after reading reviews. I must say that the sound of these speakers are outstanding. My basement, where the system is located is very large and open and is not really condusive for any surround system. But after hearing this system I was blown away by the surperb quality of the rich sound they produced. On top of the the great sound, it only cost this much for the system. Note, this particular system doesn't include a subwoofer so you'll need to already own or purchase a good subwoofer.
