Can you handle the truth?
THIEL's phenomenal CS2.4 loudspeakers are already renowned for their superior accuracy and forthright musical honesty. Their ability to make terrific recordings shine while exposing the shortcomings of lesser ones has made them a perennial hit with audiophile music lovers. So why would THIEL tinker with such a winning formula? Because sometimes you just want more more clarity, more transparency, even more beauty. And the THIEL CS2.4SE Signature Edition delivers in spades. This fine-tuned version of the standard CS2.4 offers discerning listeners an opportunity to enjoy even more of what these speakers are all about.
The Signature Edition difference
To achieve ever higher levels of performance, THIEL engineers zeroed in on the CS2.4SE's crossover. By replacing key capacitors in the design with ultra-fine grade, cost-no-object models, they were able to coax even more detail and air from the Signature Edition. Then they turned their attention to the cabinet itself, hand-selecting a gorgeous Birdseye maple veneer stained to a lustrous, deep-red vermilion finish. Other adornments include stainless steel hardware securing the drivers to the baffle, as well as a high-contrast THIEL logo in bright chrome relief at the base of each enclosure. For maximum stability, heavy-duty milled aluminum outriggers and highly polished stabilizer spikes are included with each pair of CS2.4SEs. And as a final touch, each CS2.4SE bears the mark of its maker Jim Thiel's signature is laser-etched into an aluminum plate mounted discreetly on the cabinet's back panel.
Remarkably clear treble
One of the secrets to the CS2.4SE's incredibly lifelike sound is its midrange/tweeter array. The high-output tweeter is coaxially mounted inside the midrange, with a mechanical crossover separating the two drivers. This ingenious design maintains the proper time alignment for the high and midrange frequencies, creating unparalleled accuracy and realism.
Richly detailed, musical bass
Bass comes courtesy of an aluminum woofer and passive radiator. A motor structure consisting of a short voice coil sitting inside a large magnet effortlessly drives the woofer. Unlike the voice coils found in most speakers that extend outside the magnet, the deliberately short voice coil always "sees" the optimum magnetic field as it travels back and forth. This eliminates distortion caused by variances in magnetic strength. The passive radiator increases the speaker's output. It all adds up to taut, musical bass that perfectly complements the upper frequencies without being "boomy" or overbearing.
A finely crafted cabinet
The super-strong cabinet features one-inch-thick walls with internal bracing to enhance rigidity and minimize sound-muddying internal resonance. A three-inch-thick front baffle sports curved edges to reduce unwanted diffraction, for improved tonal and spatial performance. The front of the cabinet slopes back, placing the voice coils of all three drivers on the same plane. This ensures that all frequencies will reach your ears at the same time for the most complete and accurate sound reproduction.
