These outstanding headphones can deliver a listening experience that's close to Sennheiser's own highly regarded HD 650s a performance benchmark in the headphone world for a fraction of the price. In our book, that makes 'em an audiophile bargain. They combine handsome good looks with high-gloss wood accents and an extra-comfortable fit. And their high-accuracy sound will bring you closer to the the heart and soul of your music. Sophisticated design for exceptional sound The '598s smooth and balanced sound is true to the original recording, without the sonic coloration that sometimes plagues other headphones. Sennheiser's advanced drivers and open-air design help eliminate distortion, superbly re-creating the dynamics and details of your music. The end result is a spaciousness and accuracy that will amaze you, and keep you listening far into the night. So comfortable, all you'll feel is the music Plush velour earcups gently cover your ears (even if you wear glasses) allowing you to enjoy long listening sessions in total comfort. The single-sided headphone cord is detachable, so you can easily untangle it. Plus, if the cord gets damaged, you can simply replace it rather than purchase a whole new pair of headphones. From the review Comfortable acoustics: relaxing with the Sennheiser HD 598 headphones "I thoroughly enjoyed the long listening sessions I had with the Sennheiser HD 598 headphones. Even after four or five hours, they felt just as comfortable as when I first put them on. Regardless of what genre of music I chose, the headphones reproduced the songs with fidelity and clarity. They offer an imressive wide sound stage with the superb sound Sennheiser is known for. The frequency response is superb - getting all the highs and lows just right. The comfort of these cans is superb. They fit over my e ars and lay comfortably on my head. Although they are not light weight headphones, they do not sit heavy on the head and do not exhibit the clamping that this type of headphone is noted for. Their most impressive feature is the great soundstage they offer - wide and expansive. They do not offer the sound isolation of a closed-back headphone, but I feel the open sound they offer contributes to the wide soundstage. One of the best features in my opinion is the fact that these cans have only one cable. The two able system seems to be the norm these days, but I find them uncomfortable and a bit confining I have a pair of HD 650s that I love, but the dual cables just annoy me. The HD 598 cans have it all! Pros: Comfort Great sound Cons: None at the present. Was this review helpful? I have purchased several sets of Headphones, but find that the Sennheiser 598's are right at the top of both sound and design. They are some of the best looking and best sounding headsets available today. They are very comfortable and perform beautifully for all types of music. I have 4 four other headsets but keep going back to the 598' s for clear and remarkable, accurate sound. They perform as well as any headsets now available on the market! Pros: Style, sound, and comfort are right up there with the best. Cons: None to speak of! Was this review helpful? Yes | No "Coolness Factor" Build Quality Comfort Noise Reduction Sound Quality 5 out of 5 HD 598, excellent headphones! Written By Craig, Bonham Tx on Saturday, June 01, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) I purchased the HD 598 after first purchasing the HD558 and the Bose AE2. I have had the Sennheiser RS130, 900 mhz wireless for 8 years. Good headphone , but wearing after much use. I had read many reviews touting the HD558 and how much better the bass response was than the 598's. I tried them at a local store along with Bose and Grado and ATH. I liked the Grado, but did not feel they were comfortable. The Bose AE and the 558 I was not sure which I like best. I brought them home and compared them to my old RS130. Neither the AE or the 558 had as good as highs or clarity in the midrange. The 558 was muddy and if you had say, cymbals you would hear a tick not a ringing sound that you get with the RS130. The Bose was better with midrange, but lacked a strong bass. The Bose also felt more fragile than Sennheiser. The 558 did have better sound stage during movies, but lacked during music. So after doing further review I ordered the HD598. As good or better highs than my old RS. As good as sound stage as the 558. Felt more durable than Bose. Bass response was tight and strong, midrange and highs very good. Excellent for action movies. During a good recording you can hear fingers sliding on the guitar string. I use them with a Yamaha receiver and a Rolls headphone amp. I don't know what they sound like with an Iphone or Ipad. I have had them for over a month, listening at least two hours a day if not more, would most certainly buy again. Excellent headphones! Pros: Excellent highs, midrange Very good bass response Highly durable Superior sound stage Very comfortable and light weight I think they look good, but who cares really. Cons: More money than I like to spend on headphones. Some people would put noise reduction here. However these are open headphones, noise reduction is not a consideration for this style. Great set of headphones. I demo'd these with the HD650s and ended up with the 598s. More plastic on the 598s gives them a slightly cheaper feel, but it also makes them significantly lighter. Over long sessions, I found the 598s to be much more comfortable with very little (if any) compromise in sound quality. quick note: I didn't test these with an ipod or any other non-amplified sources, so I can't attest to how they sound on-the-go, but for apartment dwellers who want full sound reproduction without bugging the neighbors, these are an excellent choice. Pros: Great sound, very light and comfortable over long listening sessions Cons: none really, unless you get really nitpicky. Was this review helpful? GOOD LOOKING AND SOUNDING HEAD PHONE FOR THE MONEY. LIGHT WEIGHT AND FITS COMFORTABLE OVER THE EARS. I HAVE FIVE OTHER SETS AND THIS IS THE ONE I USE MOST OF THE TIME. Pros: GOOD CLEAN SOUND WITH PLENTY OF BASS. Cons: NICE DESIGN, GOOD CONSTRUCTION BUT FEELS FRAGILE. Was this review helpful? This is by far the best set of headphones I have ever owned. Extremely comfortable for hours at a time, even while wearing glasses. The open back design gives the sound an expansive quality. I would describe the sound as rich and highly detailed, maybe just a bit on the warm side but pleasantly so. The HD 598 performs superbly with all the types of music I listen to, classical, jazz, easy listening, folk, world, country & classic rock. Male and female vocals are a joy to listen to, from Elvis and Tennessee Ernie Ford to Barbara Streisand. Even though I bought these headphones for music I wanted to see how they performed with movies. While no substitute for a full set of HT speakers the HD 598 is surprisingly good with movies. They may not provide the chest thumping bass of a good subwoofer however, with the 598 I hear off screen conversations I never knew existed with my home theater speakers. Change "coolness factor" to "classy". I didn't rate "noise reduction" at 5 stars because, as an open back design, they are not intended to be noise reduction headphones. Nor is the HD 598 a portable headphone. They are large and come with a 10' cord. What the HD 598 is is a true audiophile headphone that can be listened to for hours in complete comfort and musical enjoyment. They are easily driven by the headphone jack of a normal amp/receiver. no special headphone amp needed. They are a little pricy but well worth every cent. Pros: Extremely comfortable, even with glasses; Expansive sound stage; excellent bass response; clear mids and highs; non-fatiguing even after hours of listening (my sessions run to 3+ hours kicked back in a recliner); musically superb; great with movies also; high quality audiophile performance; no special headphone amplifier needed (though they would probably sound even better with one). Cons: None for their intended purpose 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? It is great! Clear, crisp sound. It is extremely comfortable. You can spend half a day in it and not notice them. They not built for noise reduction - they built for sound quality, but it perfect for office environment. P.S. Because of open structure folk around you can hear what you listening if they are close. Great headphones! Outstanding clarity throughout the entire range. Extremely comfortable for long term wear and they look great as well. I would give them 5 stars if I didn't also own the HD380pro which I like even better. It has a much more pronounced bass line than the 598's and also offers great claity, comfort, and slightly better noise reduction from the closed back design. Either set is well worth the money. They are even better then listening through the stereo speakers. Great investment. Pros: Quality sound, construction, comfort, and clarity. Cons: The bass could be a bit more pronounced and I wish the jack was the miniture with the full size adaptor rather than the other way around. Petty complaints at best. Was this review helpful? Yes | No "Coolness Factor" Build Quality Comfort Noise Reduction Sound Quality 5 out of 5 High Quality Headphones Written By SherryW, Las Cruces, NM on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) I purchased these headphones to use with my PC and laptop connected to a Dragonfly USB DAC, a 2nd generation iPod Touch, as well as with my Harman Kardon 3490 stereo receiver that runs a Marantz CD player, Pro-Ject Debut Carbon turntable, and a VortexBox/Logitech Squeezebox Touch music server system. These headphones are fabulous and are such an improvement over the standard Apple ear buds I had been using. They produce a rich, warm sound, and the music feels complete now - particularly my digital tracks. The headphones are sturdy, extremely comfortable to wear, and are visually attractive with a nice color scheme. I have found that not only does the music sound incredibly better, but these headphones have completely eliminated the listening "fatigue" I had experienced with ear buds and my vintage, inexpensive, Koss headphones from "back-in-the-day". The music is now clear, warm, nuanced, and feels like there is a much bigger sound stage in the reproduction. They handle all the ranges incredibly well and I am hearing nuanced details that I had been missing. These headphones are definitely high quality as well as functionally and musically superior to anything I had previously used. I highly recommend them to enhance your music-listening experience. Pros: Attractive and lightweight design. Wonderful sound reproduction in all ranges. Warm and rich sound stage with perfect delivery of nuanced musical detail. Included adapter adds flexibility to use with a variety of audio equipment. Cons: None - unless you are looking only for specific "noise reducing" headphones which I was not. 2 out of 3 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? I bought these headphones to use with my Kindle Fire HD. The 3.5mm plug that came with the item did not fit the Kindle because the plug housing is too thick to allow the plug to seat properly. Amazon sells an adapter plug that will solve this problem, if you pare down the rubber housing around the 3.5mm plug. The headphones were worth solving the plug problem. Great headphones. Awesome sound. Nice bass without being booming. Makes it a real treat to listen to John Entwistles' bass on Who LPs and the percussion on Santana albums. Every bit the equal soundwise of the Koss Pro4AAA phones I bought in 1979 and which sadly have out after over 30 years of service. Pros: Great sound, The instruments and vocals are reproduced nicely but even better they reproduce the spaces between the instruments well. Cons: Maybe they should take a lesson from Koss and use the fluid filled padding. Am concerned how long the padding will last. 2 out of 2 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No "Coolness Factor" Build Quality Comfort Noise Reduction Sound Quality 4 out of 5 Impressive, Intense, Good Value Written By Firebottle Tribe, Oregon, USA on Thursday, March 01, 2012 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) The Bodies - This set of headphones was my 2nd Sennheiser purchase. The 598 HDs expanded to fit my head just fine, and they are light and comfortable. They are also very attractive and the color combination is appreciated. I've read complaints from other places about the cord being unable to be removed and being 'sticky', but the cord in mine is removable from the headphones through a "Twist-Lock" on the can. It is a bit sticky though, and quite LONG at nearly 10 ft. About the audio - The sound is best described as focused & vocal. The stage and sound field are not as huge as the higher end models like the HD800 or Grado RS series, but the precision and tonal neutrality are wonderful. The Sennheiser reputation for 'holophonic', 'in your head' sound projection is well maintained in this pair of phones. These are *NOT* bass cannons, the open back style and projective positioning make booming pressure in the ears impossible. Still they REPRODUCE very low frequencies in a balanced and intense manor, every note is heard faithfully, just not powerfully. Rap, Dubstep, and Industrial Music sounds better in other phones. I have tried: Classical, New Age, Rock, Heavy Metal, Country, Industrial, and Dubstep through these phones. On an extraordinarily powerful Hybrid Headphone amp. Pros: Attractive appearance Long -REMOVABLE- Cord Adapter for mini-jacks included Lightweight & very comfortable Vast range of sound reproduction Intense 'In your head' style projection Open back means being able to hear others when set at lower volume Fairly low impedance (50 ohms), can be driven by Ipod's 1v output (if you want to do such a thing). Good power handling, they have not self destructed at the hands of my Lyr @ 12:00 listening position. Good value for the price Cons: Bass reproduction, while present, is not at all powerful Reproduction of Intense bass results in somewhat muted mid-range character during that passage. The Headband, while very, very comfortable is quite large and may prevent laying back or certain listening positions. The Cord enters the phone body straight down, and it frequently presses against my shoulder or neck, and I'm 6'6". Powerful Projection has a physical impact, and can fatigue over long listens. 11 out of 11 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Deep base when used with an equalizer. Highs exhibit a slight rolloff about 15k, then pick up from 25k to the claimed 38k. Best clarity in the midrange around, with breathy vocals (especially female vocalists) and excellent sibilance. An "S" sounds like an S. Would rather a quick detach cord, a failsafe in case you pull it too hard. Pros: Lightweight, but fullbodied sound. Cons: None so far. 1 out of 3 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Our take on the Sennheiser HD 598 by Dave Bar Beauty that's more than skin deep If your ears are golden but not your budget, Sennheiser's HD 598s should be at the top of your short list. And for active listening, that's all I need." 5 out of 5 Headphone Winner Written By Ted C, Marlton NJ on Sunday, June 16, 2013 The Sennheiser HD 598 headphones are great! Yes | No "Coolness Factor" Build Quality Comfort Noise Reduction Sound Quality
5 out of 5 Sennheiser 598 Written By Robert H, Maryville, Tennessee on Sunday, June 02, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) I have purchased several sets of Headphones, but find that the Sennheiser 598's are right at the top of both sound and design. Yes | No "Coolness Factor" Build Quality Comfort Noise Reduction Sound Quality
5 out of 5 HD 598, excellent headphones! 5 out of 5 Great headphones Written By Neal, Minneapolis, MN on Saturday, June 01, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) Great set of headphones. 4 out of 5 GOOD PHONES FOR THE MONEY Written By MURRAY IM, SAN DIEGO, CA on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) GOOD LOOKING AND SOUNDING HEAD PHONE FOR THE MONEY. Cons: NICE DESIGN, GOOD CONSTRUCTION BUT FEELS FRAGILE. Was this review helpful? Yes | No "Coolness Factor" Build Quality Comfort Noise Reduction Sound Quality
5 out of 5 Sennheiser HD 598 Written By MikeL, Broken Arrow, OK on Tuesday, March 05, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) This is by far the best set of headphones I have ever owned. Yes | No "Coolness Factor" Build Quality Comfort Noise Reduction Sound Quality

The excellent sound more than makes up for whatever minor discomforts. Pros: Great Sound. 10 ft. cord and full size jack means no more adapters and extension cords in this house. Solid feel. Cons: I little tiring around ear piece after an hour of listening. 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? 5 out of 5 It is just great Written By Den5000, Knoxville, TN on Monday, March 04, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) It is great! Clear, crisp sound. It is extremely comfortable. You can spend half a day in it and not notice them. They not built for noise reduction - they built for sound quality, but it perfect for office environment. P.S. Because of open structure folk around you can hear what you listening if they are close. Pros: Great sound, comfortable, looks cool. With Crutchfield promotion price - excellent choice for that money. Cons: Wired - but it is not really problem - just design. If you want wireless - buy another model. Was this review helpful? 5 out of 5 Great sound - worth the expense Written By JD, Cleveland, OH on Monday, February 25, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) It was worth the expense. They sound excellent. Pros: Music sounds great, looks and feel like they'll last for years. My last Sennheiser padded headphones lasted over 20 years, and they still sounded good. Cons: Sound reduction not as good as some claimed. Was this review helpful? Yes | No "Coolness Factor" Build Quality Comfort Noise Reduction Sound Quality
4 out of 5 Sennheiser HD 598 Written By EHColumbus, Columbus,Ohio on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) Great headphones! 5 out of 5 High Quality Headphones Written By SherryW, Las Cruces, NM on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) I purchased these headphones to use with my PC and laptop connected to a Dragonfly USB DAC, a 2nd generation iPod Touch, as well as with my Harman Kardon 3490 stereo receiver that runs a Marantz CD player, Pro-Ject Debut Carbon turntable, and a VortexBox/Logitech Squeezebox Touch music server system. 5 out of 5 Great Headphones Written By Old Coot, Sequim, WA on Friday, December 14, 2012 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) I bought these headphones to use with my Kindle Fire HD. They are everything that the Crutchfield review says they are. Pros: Great balanced sound Cons: Adapter plug doesn't work with Kindle 2 out of 2 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? 4 out of 5 GOOD PRODUCT Written By darshan, Bridgewater,NJ on Friday, May 18, 2012 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) I bought this headset as I was looking something best w.r.t audio quality and comfortable to the ear buds, while listening for long time. I was initially considering the BOSE lineup,as I have been using their speakers, but was not getting what I was looking for in my price range in BOSE. Pros: Good build, sound quality, comfortable -- the cushion for the ear buds Cons: no Mic!!,the sound leakage ( some one who is around 2-5 feet can hear the sound from the headphones, when playing in medium to high levels) 4 out of 8 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? 5 out of 5 very nice Written By Duaine, Missouri on Saturday, May 12, 2012 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) Great headphones. 4 out of 5 Impressive, Intense, Good Value Written By Firebottle Tribe, Oregon, USA on Thursday, March 01, 2012 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) The Bodies - This set of headphones was my 2nd Sennheiser purchase. Yes | No
5 out of 5 Best Value For Money Written By Al, Nanticoke, Pa on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) Excellent cans for the money.Very comfortable to wear.
