Our Product Research Team
At Crutchfield, you'll get detailed, accurate information that's hard to find elsewhere.
That's because we have our own in-house Product Research team — they open the box,
verify contents, check the owner's manual, and record dimensions, features and specs.
We stay on top of new products and technologies to help people make informed choices.
Polyglass Cone: The woofer cone has a cellulose pulp base
and is coated with a uniform deposit of hollow glass microballs. The addition
of the Polyglass layer significantly increases the cone's rigidity without adding
much weight. This combination takes advantage of the accuracy and neutrality of
the hard outer surface, but maintains the superior damping characteristics of
the cellulose pulp.
Surround: The butyl rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet
rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and
Neodymium Magnets: The woofers use Neodymium magnets, which
are much stronger than ceramic magnets of the same size, thus
reducing the size and weight of the speaker.
Magnet Cover: The woofers have protective covers on the
magnets. The measurements listed in the specifications were taken with the
covers removed. The covers add approximately 1/8" to the depth and
5/8" to the magnet diameter.
Inverted Dome Tweeter: The tweeter is an inverted aluminum
dome, producing a broad sound stage. The tweeter has a Neodymium magnet to provide
a powerful magnetic field for the voice coil, while still maintaining the tweeter's
Mounting Options: The tweeter can be surface or flush mounted
using the included adapters. Focal recommends flush mounting, but the included
angled cup allows surface mounting at approximately 45°.

Crossovers: The 22" wires attached to the tweeters and
the included 7" woofer wires have integrated crossovers; 6 dB/octave low-pass
and 12 dB/octave high-pass. The input end of each tweeter wire has three leads, a
negative and two positives. The positive leads are labeled Car and Display, with
a lower output level from the Car lead (useful because the placement of the
woofer in a typical car installation requires the tweeter output be lowered to
maintain a balanced sound). Both ends of the woofer wires have quick-slide
terminals that easily connect to the terminals on the woofer basket. Two ISO
connectors are included, used for plug and play installation in certain vehicles.
Because the woofer and tweeter crossovers are separate, the system can
