Features
Overview: This KeypadLinc is an in-wall dimmer that replaces
an existing switch to control the connected light, and a six button keypad to
control other INSTEON devices in the house. The dimmer lets you directly or
remotely control the brightness of incandescent light bulbs, low-voltage halogen
(track lights), and other low-voltage lights with magnetic or dimmable
electronic transformers. It will not control fluorescent light fixtures or other
non-dimmable appliances, including compact fluorescent bulbs. The six buttons on
the keypad control the connected light and four other INSTEON controlled lights
or scenes (groups of lights linked together by a controller).
INSTEON System: This line of lighting and appliance control
utilizes INSTEON technology, using existing power wires as well as wireless
radio frequency (RF) to send home automation control signals to INSTEON devices
throughout the house. You must have at least two INSTEON Access point
couplers/signal repeaters (item number 7262443P) installed to control the system
in a typical residence (2-phase wiring).
Operation: There are 32 brightness levels and the light's
On-level, brightness when first turned on, is programmable. You can program the
speed at which the light turns on and off; known as the ramp rate. For example,
you may want the light in the stairwell to turn on instantly so you can see
where you're walking. Alternatively, you may want the light in the master
bathroom to ramp up in a soft, gentle fashion so you're not blinded in the
middle of the night. The ramp rate is adjustable between 0.1 second and 9
seconds.
Monitor Other Devices: The buttons on the INSTEON KeypadLinc dimmer
illuminate when other linked INSTEON devices are on, allowing you to monitor
lights in other rooms.
Multi-Way Switches: This
2486D AL6 switch can be used in multi-way circuits (more than one switch
controlling a single light); each existing switch is replaced by a 2486D AL6 dimmer
switch.
Installation: The 2486D AL6 in-wall keypad dimmer can be installed into a
single-gang switch box. It has a 4-wire connection: Load (Red), Line (Black),
Neutral (White), and Ground (bare copper). An almond colored Decora wall plate will be
needed if you are replacing a standard toggle switch. Tools required for
installing this dimmer include:
- Standard (slotted) screwdriver
- Phillips screwdriver
- Wire cutter/stripper
- Voltage tester (to identify wires inside the junction box)
Maximum Load: The 2486D AL6 dimmer switch can handle a maximum load
of 600 watts.
X10 Ready: You can program a primary X10 address into the 2486D AL6 and
control it with an existing X10 system.
