    OUCH!!

Written By ROM, LOS ANGELES on Saturday, February 16, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these pads for my Grado SR80i to replace the comfies that came with the SR80i thinking that these L-Cush pads were going to be more comfortable. Boy was I wrong! These pads are very painful on your ears after 40 minutes of use. Since there is a hole in the middle of these pads, the actual plastic housing of the driver will be resting on top of your ear. At first, it's bearable. But after 30-40 minutes of use, the pressure of the driver on your ears becomes so excrutiating, that you have no choice but to remove the headphones and recuperate for this pain. The original comfies that come with the SR80i are far more comfortable than these pads. As for sound, these pads do enhance the overall depth of the music, since there is a hole in the middle, allowing more highs and somewhat the mids to come through. As for the bass (the lower frequency), at least in my opinion, I think they're not as good and less noticeable compared to the comfies.

I was so disappointed with these pads that after using it for about 3 hours, removing the headphones from time-to-time to ease the pain on my ears, I decided to contact Crutchfield and asked for a refund because ot the comfort level and also because of the poor bass response.
    Pros:
    MORE HIGHS, GREATER SOUND DEPTH
    Cons:
VERY PAINFUL ON THE TOP PART OF THE EARS AFTER 40 MINUTES OF USE. LESS BASS RESPONSE.

prefer these to stock cushions on SR80i

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After a few days of use, I now prefer these to the stock pads on my Grado SR80is. They are pretty stiff right out of the bag and take some getting used to, but after a day or two they feel much better and the small improvements to the sound is worth it to me. I feel they boos the clarity slightly (the driver is exposed) and boost the bass a little as well. It's not a night and day improvement at all, but enough that I feel like they were a good buy.
    Pros:
slightly alter the sound, gives a greater distance between the ear and the driver
    Cons:
A little to firm out of the box. I feel a little silly paying $20 for two pieces of shaped foam. $10-12 would be more appropriate.
