Infinity

Our take on the Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1

Got enough juice? Get an amp for your new sub The Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1 10" subwoofer combines a rugged aluminum cone and high-roll butyl-rubber surround to produce slammin' bass all the way down to 18 Hz. The super-rigid woofer cone won't distort (even when you push it hard), but it's light and responsive for remarkably high sensitivity. That means it'll squeeze the most volume out of the power you feed it.

The massive cast-aluminum basket and the pole-piece are vented so the 4-layer voice coil stays cool, even when the music gets hot. Infinity has subjected these subs to the most intensive testing in the industry — 100 grueling hours of performance at their full RMS rating (350 watts).

The Perfect 10.1 bridges the gap between subs intended for SPL and those intended for sound quality, creating bass that hits hard and sounds great. Whether you're planning a competition system or just looking for powerful bass, this sub's ready for action.

Features
Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Curvilinear Aluminum Cone: The curvilinear aluminum cone is lightweight and extremely rigid for low distortion and superior bass response.

High-roll Butyl Surround: The high-roll butyl surround damps cone resonance and ensures longevity.

Cast-Aluminum Basket: The non-resonant cast aluminum basket ensures perfect alignment of the speaker's moving parts.

Flat Uniform-roll Spider: The spider design provides maximum control over cone motion at the limits of the speaker's excursion, and reduces even-order harmonic distortion compared to cupped spiders.

Vented Pole Piece: A flared, polished and vented pole piece is used to provide optimum cooling of the voice coil and minimize turbulence.

1.5" 4-layer Voice Coil and Stacked Magnets: The 1.5" 4-layer voice coil and stacked magnets provide high motor force and room for ultra-long excursion.

Gold-plated 5-way Binding Posts: The gold-plated 5-way binding posts will accept pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, dual banana plugs, and bare wire.

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: Infinity recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume of 0.6 cu/ft.

Recommended Ported Box Volume: Infinity recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 1.0 cu/ft. One 3" diameter x 10.4" long port should be used with a 1.0 cu/ft enclosure.

Recommended Sealed Bandpass Box Volume: Infinity recommends a bandpass enclosure with an internal volume of 0.95 cu/ft. The 0.95 cu/ft enclosure should have a sealed chamber volume of 0.6 cu/ft and a ported chamber volume of 0.35 cu/ft. One 3" diameter x 10.04" long port should be used in the ported chamber.

Free-air Mounting: In addition to being compatible with sealed, ported and bandpass enclosures, the woofer can be used in free-air applications. A free-air subwoofer is designed to be mounted on a baffle board, which separates two areas of the vehicle. For instance, you could mount this woofer to a board attached to the rear deck or placed in the trunk against the rear seat. The trunk acts as the enclosure housing the subwoofer.

Fantastic Sub!

Written By Bret, Hartland, WI on Saturday, July 01, 2006

Bought this sub about a year ago for my '99 Xtreme (standard cab). Since there's not a lot of room for a sub, I needed to do something that would work well in a tight spot. I agree with anyone/everyone that has said these are among the best subs out there. The only thing I remember coming close to these is the MTX Blue Thunders. I'm connected to a Clarion ProAudio DXZ655MP & an Infinity Reference 7520a amplifier. I was never looking for "chest-thumping bass", just full sounding music, although I was concerned that my amp might be underpowering my new subwoofer. I was wrong. I have the gain set at about halfway & the head unit set at "0" and it sounds just like I wanted it to. I like the set up so much (I am also carrying Infinity Kappa speakers to replace factory paper speakers) that I plan on taking advantage of Crutchfield's BOGO offer on the Perfect 12.1 for my wife's car. I can honestly say that I don't think there is another brand of speaker I would buy for car audio. If you are looking for a quality head unit, buy Clarion (since Infinity doesn't make one). My first Clarion was in my car when I flipped it 4 times. Then I removed it & installed in my new car. It worked perfectly - talk about a "die hard unit"!! Only two brands I'll ever buy!!!!!

Great product

Written By Jake, Heber, UT on Wednesday, May 17, 2006

These subs are some of the best I've ever heard. I have 2 of these in my extended cab pick up, and I absolutly love them! I have them in a sealed box, and they are great with every type of music I listen to. They are extremely loud and very clean. I am running them with an Infinity Referance 611a. It pushes them great, and I have absolutely no complaints with these subs. I installed the cheap metal grate covers, and was glad I did. It's so much nicer, not having to worry about a random something puncturing the subs. I noticed a definate change after the required break in period. I would highly recommend thse subs to anyone.

Having installed the 10.1 in my car I cannot understand what would make a person WANT to put two or more subwoofers in their car...unless they have an ego deficit of some sort. This subwoofer puts out outstanding bass and is the "perfect" complement to anyone's car stereo system. I am very pleased with this purchase!

LOUD! CLEAN! TIGHT! PUNCHY!
This IS the best sub/quality/value EVER. Period. Hands down. As I was blasting some Black Sabbath before class in Fall 2003, ( and i didnt even have it cranked), my English professor walked by. Later on in class he commented how i had a very loud stereo. Thanks Infinity and Crutchfield! ( Not to mention my old skool USAcoustics 2100 amp) Anyway, this sub was stolen out of my car that January 2004...along with my head unit. I hope they are happy!! I really miss this sub!

First off i'd like to say that crutchfield has some of THE BEST deals offered on subs. I just bought these for my 96 Avenger. I'm only running a 800 watt Audiobahn amp to 2 of these Infinity's. Let me just say that these are loud, and extremely clean sounding throughout all ranges. Pick these up and im sure you won't disapointed!

My situation was different in that I put my Infinity subs in a boat where the only option was free air and limited power from the amp. I'm truly impressed with the quality of these speakers for the price. I have only about 125 watts RMS which Crutchfields advisors said would work fine in a free air application. I replaced Kicker Marine subs that were over powered even with my amp, especially when the base went low. Not so with the Infinity's, I am very pleased with the sound from such limited power. IMO there is no substitute for boxes but this was not possible so it's as good as it's going to get and I'm happy as can be, especially for the price, good sounding sub!!!!!! Bob

i love these speakers and they rock

I wanted a tight bass from my system. Mounted 2 Perfect 10.1 in separate 0.61 cubic ft boxes running parellel with a Kicker 460 watt amp at 2 ohms. Man, what a sweet sound. I'm not a big rap listener but occassionaly listen to XM top 20. They hit the lowes when you need them without losing true bass sound. I had a single kicker L5 12 inch solo-baric in a 1.2 cubic ft box with same amp, great for rap but had no clarity, can't live like that, have to have quality sound. I believe 1 10.1 would do the job. If you're into quality bass these are the ones.

The type of bass you get from your component subwoofer doesn't depend on the woofer alone. You'll need a strong, tightly constructed enclosure for optimum subwoofer performance.
