Upgrade your factory speakers with these Alpines, and they'll fill your vehicle with high-fidelity sound at a reasonable cost. The SPS-406 4"x6" speakers use strong, lightweight polypropylene-mica woofers to handle the lower frequencies. Air-injected rubber surrounds keep cone movement under tight control, eliminating distortion and enhancing bass. Stamped steel frames provide rugged support for these speakers, and their low profile allows them to fit in more factory locations. The 3/4" silk dome tweeters play your high notes smoothly and comfortably with no hint of harshness. You can also swivel the tweeters up to 10 degrees to improve the stereo image at your listening position. These efficient Type-S speakers will sound great with a low-powered factory radio, but they're also made to handle the high power output of an external amplifier. Grilles are not included factory grilles are appropriate for most installations. Mica adds strength and heat resistance to polypropylene, resulting in reduced distortion and improved reliability. Air-injected Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofers use air-injected rubber surrounds. Silk Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has a 3/4" Wide-Range Silk Dome Tweeter for smooth high frequencies. Highly Efficient Design: The SPS-406's high-efficiency design allows the speaker to be run off of your factory or aftermarket head unit, resulting in an easy system improvement for many vehicles requiring a 4x6" speaker. Shallow-Design: The Alpine SPS-406 features a stamped steel shallow frame. This shallow mounting design allows for easier installation in a wide range of door panels giving you a perfect fit. Mounting: The speakers can be mounted in a metric 4x6" opening, or, using the supplied adapter rings, the speakers can be mounted in a U.S. standard 4x6" opening. The speakers also come with bottom mount spacer rings. No Grilles: No grilles are included with this speaker. Speakers - i bought because i trust the Alpine brand, but i was disappointed, if only from a perspective of how these speakers are presented for use. I bought them (along with a set of Kickers) to replace the stock speakers in my 2003 Silverado, set up with a Kenwood Excelon KDC-395. They were listed as replacements for the rear door 4x6 speakers. After the install they sound very clean, and very bright - but TOO BRIGHT. no matter how i adjusted the head unit, i could not get any low end from the speakers. So i decided i really needed 6x9's, even if i have to cut the door panel. I felt a little bad returning them, until i re-installed the stock speakers to hold me over, and they stock speakers have more low end - sounded BETTER - than these. I think they are good speakers, but better suited for a front door setup, not the rear where you need some bottom end. (I put the same head unit in my daughters car with 6x9's in the back and there is PLENTY of bottom end - even without an amp and subs). so that's my comments - might work well in some setup, but not as the rear speakers. Get out your metal cutter and put those 6x9's in. Pros: good sound - bright and clean Cons: TOO bright Was this review helpful? Yes | No 4 out of 5 porsche 944 Written By mike, Totowa nj on Saturday, August 20, 2011 First of all I want to say that I love dealing with Crutchfield! They're always very helpful when you have problems! I really like these speakers a lot! They sound great with my JVC BonJiovi powered stereo! Crisp and clear! Especially for only being a two way speaker! There might be better speakers out there than these but they wouldn't fit in the front doors of my car. Trust me.. The price of these is very very low for the quality of the sound! Not a ton of bass but there's no way of getting that from a 4by6! The front speakers just barely fit in and the grill is bulging out just a little bit. But in the rear I could have gone with something a little bigger magnet wise... but still stay with a 4 by 6. The hardest part of the rear install was pulling the vinyl apart without tearing it! (fingertip strength) The rest is really not that hard! I built up the rear footwell with a lot of layers of foam so that I could sit back there and work! 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Huge improvement, clarity and range of music are the biggest changes. Install was easy although the speaker installation instructions are lacking. Crutchfield instructions included helped out with proper and simple door removal. Overall very satisfied. Still running them on the stock stereo, power handling dictates turning the volume up a little more than before with stock speakers. Love the sound, very good alpine speakers. So I got a full system. I got a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X494 headunit, these 4x6 sps alpine speakers for the doors, 6x9 sps speakers for the rear, Kenwood KAC-6404 4 chan amp for the speakers, a jh600 mtx mono block amp, and a JL Audio 12W3v3-4 subwoofer. I also put bass blockers to these speakers because thats what my subwoofer is for. I did test the bass before adding the blockers, and it was fine for a 4x6, but not great. I will say however the mids and highs sounded great with my amp. I would suggest these to anyone building a system. They make my music sound full and lively. 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Pleasant on Wednesday, January 06, 2010 I paired the SPS-406 with Alpine SPS-500s in the roll bar and a Kenwood KDC-X493 head unit. A noticeable improvement over the cheap paper stock speakers on the 2005 Wrangler. A little more bass comes out and the mids and highs are clean & crisp. Don't make the same mistake I made and expect miracles from these speakers. A woofer and tweeter of this size can only do so much. Crutchfield provided prompt service as always and their technical support is awesome. The installation instructions on the speaker box made pairing up the speakers to the adapter plates a real chore. [Editor's Note: The adapter needed to install 4x6" speakers in the wrangler dash is no longer available. We now recommend 4" speakers for this location.] Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 Great Speakers! Written By Daniel, Fort Knox, KY on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 First- If you are buying these for the rear panels of an 88-93 Chevy Truck, these are NOT direct fit!!! The opening needs to be slightly modified to accept the metal spacer, or the trim will have to be modified if you use the plastic spacer (which works a little better IMO). As for the speakers, they sound absolutely terrific. Clarity even at very loud volumes is excellent. If you expect a lot of low end, you're looking at the wrong size speaker. These work best with bass blockers and a subwoofer installed for low-end frequencies. They can handle plenty of power, so match them up with a strong enough head unit to maximize results. Great mid and high tones, and as i mentioned before, clarity is awesome. Instructions in the box are terrible. It took me about 30 minutes to figure out what the diagram (no written instructions) were showing, but maybe that was just me. As always, Crutchfield is great and gives you everything you need to do the install except for the trim removing tool (you'll need it). Overall, very pleased with these speakers! 5 out of 5 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No
4 out of 5 Cant beat the price Written By Rafael, Santa Clara, Ca on Thursday, June 18, 2009 Let's face it, for the price you pay for these speakers you can't go wrong. Try hooking these speakers up to an amp, you'll love the way they sound for the price you pay. I would buy these speakers again. 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No
