Features

Overview: The HD-EG5U is a 500 GB External Hard Drive, designed to back up, store, and transport your digital music, video, and photo files. It is USB 3.0 compliant for exceptionally fast data transfer, and is backwards-compatible with USB 2.0. The unit receives power through the USB port (DC 5V).

Capacity: The HD-EG5U has a storage capacity of 500 GB. Because of the built-in software, the usable capacity is approximately 465 GB. File sizes must be 4 GB or smaller to be stored on the external hard drive. The HD-EG5U uses the FAT32 file system.

Data Transfer Speeds: The USB 3.0 standard, also known as SuperSpeed USB, has a maximum transfer speed of 5 GB per second (5 Gbps). That's just over 10 times faster than USB 2.0 at 480 Mbps. Transfer speeds above 480 Mbps are only possible when connecting the unit to a USB 3.0-capable PC.

Connections: The HD-EG5U has a single USB 3.0 Micro-B connector, and comes with a 1 meter USB cable with USB 3.0 Type A and Micro-B connectors. Also included is a short USB adapter cable for directly connecting the hard drive to compatible Sony Handycam camcorders.

Playback Capability: The HD-EG5U is optimized for A/V devices, so you can easily view stored videos and photos directly on your compatible TV.

Direct Copy: Connecting the external hard drive directly (via the supplied USB adapter cable) to Sony Handycam camcorders lets you automatically transfer video and photo files quickly with the press of a single button. Direct Copy-compatible Handycam camcorders include:

• HDR-PJ200, PJ260V, PJ580V, PJ710V, PJ760V
• HDR-CX210, CX260V
• HDR-HRDT20
• HDR-XR260V

Built-in Software: The built-in software offers faster transfer speeds (Data Transfer Accelerator), password protection (Password Protection Manager), easy data backup (Backup Manager), and a FAT32 Formatter. The software is compatible with Windows operating systems only. You can use the external hard drive with Mac OS, however, the higher transfer speeds of USB 3.0 are not possible.

• Mac OS X 10.4 or later (supports USB 2.0 only)
