After taking my 2000 Jetta to a local installer and being quoted $650.00 to replace 4 speakers... I Purchased these speakers online at Crutchfield.com. They were here in a day and installed in less than an hour and a half... Really liked the fact that the installation kit was included.

Sony Speakers

These speakers replaced the original front door speakers in my 2004 Chevy Silverado which had gone bad. The Sony speakers sound-wise are about average. The removal/installation instructions were okay, but it was extremely helpful that I had already watched a You Tube video on Chevy Silverado door panel removal and re-installation. This is especially true since releasing the clip on the power window switch connector is not easy. The speaker adapters and connecting wires, plus their instructions, were excellent. Overall I consider this a very good buy.

Sony XplodT XS-GT1627A for 2000 Civic

Speakers are excellent, however, installation instructions on webpage & shipped instrucs are WAY off-base for my 2000 base Civic. Instead of merely having to cut out back of plastic door cups per the instructions, installation in front doors required far more extensive modifications--think Sawzall cutting much of plastic mount and some metal door parts, then having to fold back speaker mounting tabs & finally drilling all new screw holes. This notwithstanding, the help of techs was invaluable throughout the process, even to the extent of assuring me that if I butchered the speakers doing the modifications they would take them back. When all was said & done, the speakers sound great for an inexpensive upgrade.

Pros:

Great sound for an inexpensive upgrade; outstanding help from Crutchfield techs.

Cons:

Beware if you have a 2000 or thereabouts Honda Civic.

Not crazy about 2-way speakers but with the help of the tweeters in my dash, these are acceptable. You can't complain about the price.

Purchased these speakers to replace to factory door speakers in my 02' Silverado which had been blown out. Definitely a good low cost replacement for someone looking for slightly better than OEM speakers.

These speakers are great. They do not produce much lows but that was expected. The highs are great and they compliment with my other speakers and sub in my car. I installed in my front doors of my sunfire with the additional bracket kit. Good buy!!!

Chose this speaker because we have a portable Sony Xplod CD/tape/radio with great sound. The blown speaker had been a problem since we bought the car second-hand. Now we can listen to music on long trips with clear, excellent sound. Many thanks!

I installed four of these Sony speakers in my minivan to replace the factory speakers hoping they'd have some stupendous effect on the new Sony receiver's sound but they were pretty much an even swap sound-wise, maybe just a tad tinnier. The quality and price of the speakers is very good and they were easy enough to install ... once the vehicle interior was pulled apart of course! :-)

Pros:

Solid speakers with good response across the board, light in the bass area.

Well Worth the Price

I got the Sony X-plod ('explode") model XS-GT1627A to replace the cracked door speakers in my 2000 Dodge Intrepid which came with a JBL-Infinity sound system (the window sticker bragged "9 Loudspeakers in 7 Locations".) I read all the reviews of speakers under $100 that would fit my car, and the Xplods work GREAT, mostly because they only get lower-midrange from the Infinity amplifier. (Okay, so the Xplods have Hi-Frequency Tweeters that I don't use. Big deal! But I get Sony quality and Crutchfield Support at a fantastic price.) Several reviews said the Xplods didn't have much bass. That could be due to the mounting. If the circumference of the speaker is not sealed, you get a "blow-by" effect, where negative soundwaves come around the speaker and cancel-out the positive soundwaves. The Adaptor Mounting Rings do not seal very well. I used a putty to fill any cracks between the speaker and the door. BTW: My car's Infinity sound system includes a gut-thumping subwoofer in the rear which is plenty for me, and I listen to a lot of Electronic Dance Music from CD's an from Sirius Satellite Radio.

Pros:

Great Price, Sony ruggedness, and Crutchfield Support that included free adapter Mounting Rings and adapter cables to fit my car.

Cons:

The necessary Adapter Mounting Rings were not easy to adapt. The Inifinity speakers have an oddball mounting configuration, so I had to hacksaw about a half inch of one tab of each Adapter Ring, and file another hole a little larger. But that's my car. Perhaps your car will be easier to adapt. ALSO: I recommend a sealing putty that can withsteand the heat of a parked car in the hot sun.

Very good replacements for the stock speakers for the price. The instructions from Crutchfield were top notch. Crutchfield sent me a free installation kit but the speakers fit in the factory drilled holes. Very happy.
