Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Our take on the JVC KW-HDR720

by Zak Billmeier

Your dash is big enough for a double-DIN (4" tall) receiver — fill it with the elegant JVC KW-HDR720 CD receiver and you'll never look back. It'll put the power and clarity of HD Radio™ at your fingertips, plus give you the great sound and extra features you'd expect from a JVC receiver.

Tap into the digital power of HD Radio
Are you a lover of local radio? Then HD Radio is right up your alley. Its static-free digital signal pumps up the quality of FM to near CD-quality, and makes the AM signal sound almost as good as traditional FM. HD Radio stations can also broadcast multiple channels on the same frequency, giving you more listening options.

Great for your iPod® or iPhone®
Your whole music collection's on your iPod, so don't leave it at home. Connect it to the KW-HDR720's front USB input, and you can use the large wheel and easy-to-reach buttons to dive into your music library. You'll see plenty of song info on the easy-to-read, two-line display.

With your iPod connected and an HD Radio station tuned in, you can "tag" songs you like for purchasing later. The next time you connect your player to your computer, you'll get a reminder from the iTunes™ store. It's a great way to expand your music collection.

Killer display
JVC's Separated Variable-Color Display lets you dial in the perfect hue for your taste. You can choose from over 30,000 options, and you can even assign different colors to your controls and the display — decorate your dash in honor of your favorite team, with your school colors, or simply complement your existing lighting. If you're undecided, the receiver can cycle through all the colors continually for a really neat effect.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

iPod note:
If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

      HD Radio

Built-in HD Radio: With the built-in HD Radio tuner, you can receive digital AM/FM broadcasts from local stations where available. This new technology will significantly improve audio quality and reception, as well as include information such as artist name and song titles or traffic news, viewable on the receiver's display. HD Radio Technology will deliver high-quality digital sound. AM digital will have FM-like quality in stereo, while FM digital will have CD-like quality with static free and clear reception. Right now there are about 2,000 radio stations broadcasting using digital HD Radio technology in the U.S. To find HD Radio stations in your area, visit the HD Radio website (HDRadio.com).

HD Radio Tagging: Using the head unit's iTunes Tagging enabled HD Radio, you can tag your HD music (up to 60 songs) while listening to the radio with your iPod/iPhone connected. When you hear a song you enjoy on your local HD Radio station, you only have to press the head unit's "Tag" button and the song's information will be saved to your connected iPod/iPhone. The saved songs will then show up in a playlist called "Tagged" in iTunes the very next time you sync your iPod/iPhone to your PC. Then you just need to click, buy, and download the song you tagged directly from the Apple iTunes Music Store.

Multicasting: In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting, it is possible to choose from up to 8 multicast programs (HD1 to HD8 and analog). There are also data programs for each program.

Display Information: AM/FM digital stations can offer text and data such as artist names and song titles. The built-in HD Radio tuner displays song title, artist and station information on the display of the JVC KW-HDR720.

Analog Broadcasts: In addition to HD AM/FM stations, the KW-HDR720 can also receive conventional analog AM/FM broadcasts.

Digital/Analog Tuning: You can setup the KW-HDR720 to search both analog and digital radio stations,  only HD Radio stations, and analog radio stations only.

Digital/Analog Presets: You can set up to 18 FM and 6 AM digital/analog presets stations as presets (HD Radio multicast channels can also be preset). Presets can be set manually, or automatically using Strong-station Sequential Memory (SSM).

Mono Mode: If an analog FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive, you can manually switch the tuner to Mono operation.

IF Filter: You can also switch the analog tuner's IF filter to Wide or Auto to increase/decrease the sensitivity.

US/European Tuning: You can set the built-in AM/FM tuner between US standard and European tuning spacing.

      Disc Playback

Disc Compatibility: The unit features a single disc player that will playback CD-Audio, CD-Text, and finalized CD-R/CD-RW audio discs.

MP3/WMA Playback: The KW-HDR720 can play MP3 (8-320 kbps) and WMA (32-192 kbps) audio files that have been recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs. The disc must be recorded in one of the following formats: ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, Romeo or Windows long file. The head unit can recognize a total of 255 folders (255 files per folder) and 65,025 total files. The unit also supports IDTag3 (version 1.0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4) for album and artist information from MP3/WMA files (up to 60 characters).

Track/Folder List: The Track/Folder List displays a list of MP3/WMA folders and tracks on a loaded CD, so you can easily access your music. The Track/Folder List will also display the list of track titles on a CD Text disc. If the MP3/WMA disc contains a lot of tracks, you can fast search (+/-10 or +/-100) through the disc by turning the unit's control dial quickly.

Random/Repeat Modes: The JVC KW-HDR720 offers the following Repeat and Random playback modes for your audio CDs.

      • Repeat: Track Repeat (plays the current track repeatedly), Folder Repeat (plays all tracks of the current folder repeatedly), Off (cancels repeat function)
      • Random: Folder Random (plays all tracks of the current folder, then the tracks of the next folder in random), All Random (plays all tracks of the current disc at random), Off (cancels random function)

Disc Resume: If you change the source, playback also stops (without ejecting the disc). Next time you select CD for the playback source, the disc will start from where it has been stopped previously.

Off Insert/Eject: A CD disc can be inserted or ejected with the power off. When a disc is inserted with the power off, the unit will automatically power up and begin playback.

Disc Protection: If the ejected disc is not removed within 15 seconds, the disc is automatically inserted again into the loading slot to protect it from dust. The source will change to CD, and the disc will begin playback, even if you have another source selected at the time.

Mounting: For proper disc playback you must install the unit within 30-degrees of horizontal.

      USB/iPod/Aux Connectivity

USB Port: The JVC KW-HDR720 features a front-panel USB 2.0 (type-A) port behind a sliding cover for connection of a USB mass-storage class device. The USB port enables audio playback and control of MP3(8-320 kbps)/WMA (32-192 kbps) audio files stored on a portable USB mass-storage class device formatted in FAT 12/16/32. The KW-HDR720 can recognize up to 255 folders (255 files per folder) and 65,025 total files. The unit also supports IDTag3 (version 1.0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4) for album and artist information from MP3/WMA files (up to 60 characters).

Note: You cannot connect a USB device via a USB hub or Multi-Card Reader to this unit.

iPod/iPhone Direct: The JVC KW-HDR720's front-panel USB port also acts as an iPod/iPhone high-speed direct connection when used with the USB/iPod cable that came with your iPod/iPhone. An additional iPod cable is available (469USBPOD, sold separately) so you can leave one at home and one in the car. If you have an iPod nano (7th gen), iPod touch (5th gen), or iPhone 5; use the Lighting-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect to the head unit. Using either cable allows audio playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of select iPod/iPhone models from the JVC in-dash head unit.

iPod/iPhone Audio Playback: The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's large music libraries to be loaded instantly to the JVC head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 24-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to 98dB. The JVC KW-HDR720 supports audio playback of music files, podcasts, and apps stored on your iPod or iPhone.

iPod/iPhone Control: You can choose to control the iPod/iPhone from the head unit or from your iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen.

      • Music Browsing: From the head unit's front-panel controls you can search your iPod/iPhone's music by Category (Playlist/Artist/Album/Song/Genre/Composer). If the selected category contains a high number of tracks, you can fast search (+/-10, 100, 1000) through the music tracks in that particular category by simply turning the head unit's control dial.
      • Repeat & Random: The KW-HDR720 also supports Repeat (file/all) and Random (album/all) playback functions of your iPod/iPhone.

Note: You can listen to apps stored on your iPhone through the JVC head unit when controlling the iPhone via its touchscreen (cannot access apps via head unit control mode).

iPod/iPhone Display: The KW-HDR720 will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information, regardless of control mode. The head unit will display Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song title, and Album label.

iPod/iPhone Charging: While connected and the ignition switch is set to ACC or ON, the head unit's USB connection will power and charge your iPod/iPhone. This unit will not charge the iPad. If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

iPod/iPhone Compatibility Chart: The JVC KW-HDR720 is "Made for iPod/iPhone" compatible and supports the following iPod/iPhone model features (as of 9/25/2012):

Note: Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.

Dual Auxiliary Inputs: A front-panel & rear-panel stereo minijack (3.5mm) are provided to allow the connection of portable audio sources. Simply connect your portable digital music player to either the unit's front or rear auxiliary input, and you can listen to the audio from the portable player through the speakers in your mobile audio system.

      Audio Section

      Burr-Brown 24-bit D/A Converter: The JVC KW-HDR720 utilizes a premium TI/Burr-Brown 24-bit digital-to-analog converter for superior CD sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The KW-HDR720 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the KW-HDR720 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the KW-HDR720 are as follows:

      • CEA2006 Specs: 20 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
      • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KW-HDR720 with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.

2.5V/4CH Preamp Output: The KW-HDR720 is equipped with two pair of 2.5V preamp outputs (Front/Rear). The front and rear preamp outputs allow fader control between your front and rear speakers. The unit is fitted with a subwoofer preamp output that is non-functional.

Pro EQ: The KW-HDR720 is equipped with JVC's Pro EQ. The integrated equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Flat, Natural, Dynamic, Vocal Boost, Bass Boost, User) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 3-band parametric EQ (Frequency, Level, and Q-Factor).

      Tone
      Frequency Level Q
      Bass 60, 80, 100, 200 Hz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0
      Midrange 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 kHz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 0.75, 1.0, 1.25
      Treble 10, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5 khz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) Fixed

Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. You can turn this feature on or off.

Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -5 to +5.

Key-Touch Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

      Bluetooth/Remote Control

Optional Bluetooth: The unit's rear-panel Aux (3.5mm) input can also be used to connect JVC's KS-BTA100 Bluetooth Adapter (105KSBTA10, sold separately). The KS-BTA100 gives you hands-free communication from your compatible Bluetooth mobile phone and wireless streaming audio from a Bluetooth enabled digital audio player. The optional JVC Bluetooth Adapter includes a super-sensitive microphone, an Answer/End button, and playback controls. The KW-HDR720 can be set to automatically mute any music audio to your vehicle's speakers so you can listen to your telephone call using your car speakers. The head unit's rear-panel auxiliary input must be set to "Bluetooth" in the menu.

Wireless Remote Control: The KW-HDR720 comes supplied with a wireless remote control (RM-RK52). The remote contains Power, Attenuator, Sound, Source, Tracking, and Volume functions. The remote operates off of a single CR2025 3V Lithium-cell battery (included).

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

      Display Features

Variable Color LCD & Key Illumination: The JVC KW-HDR720 features 29 color presets for the LCD and button illumination. You can choose one of these color presets or select the ColorFlow mode which scrolls through all 29 color presets. Additionally, there is a User preset, allowing you to individually adjust the intensity of Red, Green, and Blue from 0 to 31; resulting in approximately 30,000 custom color options. The chosen color preset or custom color can be applied to the display panel and the backlighting for all the buttons, except the Display & Eject buttons (they remain red). You can choose to use the same color for the LCD display and button illumination, or use a separate color for each one. You can also select a different color for daytime and nighttime in regards to the unit's LCD and button illumination.

Brightness: The unit offers an adjustable display and button illumination brightness level (0-31) for day and nighttime driving.

Display/Button Illumination Dimmer: The display/button illumination dimmer can be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display/button illumination is always dimmed), or Auto (display dims when 12-volts is applied to the orange/white illumination lead).

2-DIN Chassis: The JVC KW-HDR720 has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as Double DIN), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets, or Euro-mounted using the supplied mounting sleeve. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Worst electronic purchase I've ever made. Was really happy at first. Took a little while to figure out how to work everything, but no big deal. HD Radio is cool, love the capability to customize colors and USB feature. Now speaking of USB feature, right at 1 yr, USB stopped reading the iPod and iPhone. Tech support said to try a flash drive. That worked for a while, but it won't read anything now. Tech support says to reset back to factory settings....didn't work. Another issue that started just over 1 yr mark is that when I start up the truck periodically, there is no sound. Turn off and turn back on usually takes care of the problem. Well, not the case today. Started up the truck and no sound. Turned off the radio and it would not power back on, period. I figured it was shot. I eventually remembered the reset button. That brought the radio back. Haven't checked anything else yet. By the way, a reset means you loose all radio presets, color setting, everything. Guess I'll have to go back and redo it for the 3rd time in 15 months. My recommendation is to go with a different brand like Sony or Pioneer.
      Pros:
HD is nice, custom color settings
      Cons:
Not reliable, USB feature broke just out of warranty, somewhat difficult to figure out how to customize all the settings you want.

I got it as a replacement for the OEM unit after I got sick of the skips on my cd as i rode down the potholed roads of the local berg, I tried a couple of big box stores but the installers were to busy for my taste, so I took the plunge and bought a kit from Chrunchfield, It was just over an hour after I got home I had it installed it took 3 short calls to tech support to get me over the rough spots, all answers were spot on very helpful. The JVC unit is just so fabulous it works great , plenty of power, gobs of features, and a decent owners manual!! So far I'm thrilled with the purchase, and found never again am I gonna pay for an install with the great directions that Crunchfield gives me!!!!1
      Pros:
Great support, great support documentation, complete install kit Great unit
      Cons:
the wire nuts were hard to use, I bought my own

Just recieved and installed the head unit, removed the factory radio went with this one..i looked for a week on a bunch of different sites to read reviews of different head units and more often then not this had really high remarks, so after deciding to go with this one, and installing it, it is everything i thought it would be, i just got rid of my last truck that had the navigation package and all the extras and although all those things are nice,, its just too much for a vehicle in my opinion, for me the radio serves one pupose to play some muisc!..this does that nicely, i like i can play the ipod while charging it, the color matching is nice, im sure my gf will turn it to pink when she drives it ha. no real complaints that were unexpected
      Pros:
factory speakers sound better!,cool color displays, simple to use
      Cons:
a dull or flat black face would of been a better touch then the shiny black,

      JVC for Chevy 2004 Blazer

Written By BillyH, Palatka, Florida on Wednesday, March 06, 2013
Installed in a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered this receiver for my 2004 Blazer. Although it was my fault, I did not know that someone had previously cut off the Chevrolet factory plug. If they had not done that, it would have been a breeze. I had to contact Crutchfield support. The agent was both prompt and courtious. In a matter of minutes we figured out the color code. It looks like it belongs in the dash, the buttons are large and easy to see, the HD radio is great and all in all it sounds great. The remote is so handy while you are driving if you just take a moment to memorize the button locations. Love the USB and Aux inputs. What more could you want. This is my second receiver purchase from Crutchfield. I will never go anywhere else to purchase one as long as Crutchfield is around. They are with you from start to finish and give you all that you need to finish the job and make it look good.
      Pros:
Great price and excellant product. I just love it.
      Cons:
Instructions could be better for the mounting hardware. This probably added 30 minutes to the job for me to figure it out. Maybe if I had been taking out the factory receiver instead of a previous replacement it would have been more clear from the start.

      JVC radio for GMC Envoy

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is radio fits nicely and looks good in the car. I took it elsewhere to be installed and plays and sounds so much better than the old factory radio in my GMC Envoy w/o the Bose system. I love the fact that I can plug my IPod into the radio and play music from my playlists, CD's sounds great and haven't picked up any HD radio stations as of yet but the radio sounds great also. Over all you can't go wrong by selecting this JVC radio for your car, you will be very happy!
      Pros:
Price, awesome sound quality, nice & neat looking radio!
      Cons:
Instruction manual could provide more clearer information on how to use the many different function of the radio.

      Good for the money

Written By McSwiss, Tuolumne, CA on Tuesday, February 19, 2013
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For upgrading a factory stereo on a 2001 Toyota Rav4, this unit does the job. It has all the new features that I was looking for (Aux & USB input jacks, color adjustable face-plate and HD radio). There is no Bluetooth but I rarely need that anyway.

Usability: The unit has an easy to understand interface for all basic functions. Clear and large buttons for the selections you use on a daily basis. This is my girlfriends car and she is "high-tech interface" challenged. Things need to be simple for her and she likes this unit a lot. No problem operating the basic functions. Love the simple "MUTE" feature. When it comes to Color, Sound, EQ and other set-up functions, things get a little harder. The first time around you will have to reach for the owners manual. It took me a couple of tries before I figured out the set-up and menu logic. Not bad once you get the hang of it.

Face-plate Colors: Another hit was the adjustable face-plate colors. Good for matching OE scheme or select a favorite hue. Color brightness is fine.

Sound: Sound quality is good for the money (serious improvement over stock stereo) but adjusting the Sound and EQ settings the first time around took some help from the manual.

Radio: Radio reception is marginally weaker compared to the factory unit. I consider the reception good and the HD feature is great. You can truly hear the difference from regular to HD signal.

Fit and Quality: Quality is as expected reasonable but unit sticks out from dash a bit.
      Pros:
      - Easy to use - Very competitively priced - Good color integration - Good sound compared to stock unit - No Quality problems so far - Would recommend to others
      Cons:
      - The only real issue I have is that the Unit sticks out from dash about 1/2 inch making it look like an aftermarket install. Factory unit was flush. - This unit is not hard to use once familiar with it, but "Menus" and "Sub Menus" could use some finessing.

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Much improved sound quality over the stock Bose system in the Nissan. Paired with Pioneer speakers, the sound is almost as good as the Bose Symphony system in my Audi. The controls on the unit are confusing for all the lights and equalizer functions - but then I am a technology ludite. The patch cord system into the stock Nissan wiring harness works well, but the instructions are incomplete and so I had to phone tech assistance to finish the installation.

      JVC Radio for Ford Escape

Written By Tom, Huntersville, NC on Friday, February 15, 2013
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Needed a replacement radio when the unit in my Escape failed. Good value, better sound (w/o replacing speakers), and I'm sold on HD radio. For an entry unit, at less than half the price of a Ford replacement, I'm very satisfied. The available wiring harness and plate cover allow a professional appearance.
      Pros:
Good quality , fit, and ease of use.
      Cons:
My standard display screen on the vehicle (which also contains Temperature & Compass) now reads 'DVD', instead of being blank or 'Ford Escape'. Somewhat annoying. Would like 'time' to appear on radio screen with radio station number, instead of separate view.

      I'm Impressed

Written By AustinS, Goshen, IN on Wednesday, February 06, 2013

Wow. I have had this installed for almost a year now and all I can say is wow. You will not be able to find a stereo with all the qualities this one has for a better price. Every time Someone takes a step into my car the first thing their eyes go to is the stereo. Then after a few seconds of staring, the say "oh my gosh, does it change color?!?!" to which I can happily reply, "yes it does. " But the colors aren't the best thing about it. The HD radio makes all the difference in the world. Its like listening to it straight from my iPod. Best quality ever. Not that I use the radio. I just hook my iPod up to it with the USB cable that came with the iPod. The only trick to this option, is that once you plug in the iPod, the factory settings on the stereo disables the iPod so that you can only control it from your stereo head unit. This is slightly difficult to use, so I did a little fiddling and figured out how to change it. If you go into the menu WHILE YOUR IPOD IS PLUGGED IN, the iPod control option comes up, and you can change it. If it's not plugged in, the menu option wont show up. Or you could just be lazy and plug it in to the head jack :P. The only reason I put a 4/5 in the Ease category is for this reason. the only build quality issue is that I really wish I had a removable face plate, but if your car does get jacked, it's only $ to replace :P. Please get this. It's the best bang for your buck, and it can power anything (even a big sub woofer). Just please by this.
      Pros:
Sound quality Voltage output Variable color display (by the way, it doesn't just have three colors, it has the rainbow, and you can set it to fade from color to color) Sub woofer hook ups Plenty of menu options iPod hook ups HD radio Easy to read display
      Cons:
No removable face plate That iPod option took me a while to figure it out

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

great deck, installed in a 2004 tahoe with bose. YES the sub pre-out does work. as everyone says, it made the stock speakers sound alot better and louder. I ended up keeping the stock sub functional, and added a 10" l5 kicker in a custom box in the back rear panel. between the 2 subs, it sounds great. not to much, but enough when you want it. it was a very tight fit with all of the adapters to keep the chimes, and stock speakers, but it works. wife and kids love taking it everywhere now.
      Pros:
great for the price, many functions
      Cons:
not sure if it just the wire that i have for the usb/iphone, but it gets loose everyonce in a while and takes over the stereo "reading". minor problem, will try a different wire.

      Mustang GT - Jan 2013

Written By Wes, Colorado Springs, CO on Sunday, February 03, 2013
Installed in a 2004 Ford Mustang
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered this radio to replace the stock radio (CD quit), and wanted something that was easy to operate while driving. Most radios I saw and tried in the local stores were single DIN and lots of cramped tiny buttons. Crutchfield offered this at a very reasonable price, and was able to install it with no problems. My review reflects the JVC disappointment, CD can't read even new CD's. Since this was my main reason to replace my stock radio - well it seems a waste of money and time. The HD was another thing I was looking forwad to enjoying, and turns out reception is weaker than my stock radio - how sad is that! So, what was good or at least acceptable about this Radio... it worked just fine with the supplied connectors to connect to the existing MACH 1000 audio system (no popping), it can match my current dash display color perfectly, it is easy to make selections while driving, IPOD input and the blue tooth adaptor work just fine, the sound is adjustable and acceptable (no better or worse than stock). All in all it was a disapponitment and I guess I got what I paid for at less than $300. If you take my advice keep looking since the only function that works well are the devices you connect to it.
      Pros:
Easy install, Fancy Colors, Fits perfectly, Works well with other devices.
      Cons:
FM reception poor, CD's inability to read most of what you give it, expected more from JVC.
