About the Boston Acoustics PV500
High-impact bass with silky smooth response the PV500 powered sub from Boston Acoustics will breathe new life into your movies and music. Boston's state-of-the-art technology and design allow the PV500 to cleanly reproduce even the most challenging low-frequency passages. The 100-watt amp provides plenty of muscle, and the 10" down-firing woofer can move a lot of air. Get ready for dynamic bass with serious punch!
The PV500's built-in amp includes Boston's proprietary BassTrac® circuitry, which keeps the bass rich and full while eliminating audible distortion. And the sub's solidly built cabinet features extensive internal bracings for resonace-free performance. A convenient volume control on the front of the unit lets you easily adjust the low-frequency output. You can hook up the PV500 to your receiver via the line-level or speaker-level inputs, and use the adjustable crossover for perfect blending with the rest of your speakers. There's even a dedicated LFE input, which bypasses the sub's crossover for home theater bass precision.

Features
PowerVent (PV): The Boston Acoustics PV500 powered subwoofer features a down firing 10" woofer in a bass reflex enclosure (ported to the rear). More than just a speaker in a box, every aspect of a Boston Acoustics PowerVent subwoofer has been molded to deliver optimum performance. From the computer-modeled woofer with DCD to the tuned enclosure with dual flared vent and extensive bracing to the high-current amplifier with active equalization, all parts are designed with the others in mind, working together in unison to deliver bass with impact and realism.
DCD (Deep Channel Design): The 10-inch driver used in the PV subwoofer utilizes Boston Acoustics' DCD design. DCD is a deeply grooved pole plate that enables the voice coil to travel farther for greater output without bottoming out. Through the use of an advanced computer modeling process called Finite Element Analysis (FEA), efficiency is optimized, allowing the subwoofer to take full advantage of the PV's built-in amplifier. Furthermore, every woofer is tested as it comes off the line to be within ±1dB of the lab reference unit, an incredibly tight tolerance.
Auto-On Circuit: The PV500 has an Auto-On Circuit which can automatically turn the amplifier on when an audio signal is detected. It will automatically turn off after about 15 minutes with no signal.
Volume Control: The rotary volume control is conveniently located on the front of the subwoofer for easy balancing with other components in your audio system.
BASSTRAC: PV series subwoofer amplifiers feature BassTrac circuitry, a proprietary Boston Acoustics-designed technology, which tracks the subwoofer's input signal and prevents the amplifier from being driven into audible distortion. Unlike conventional designs, BassTrac does not merely remove the signal peaks that cause distortion, instead it preserves the waveform's shape so the fidelity of the signal is maintained. Even the heaviest bass passages in movies or audio tracks will sound solid, rich, and full, without unwanted artifacts.
Phase Switch: The subwoofer's phase switch allows you to select 0° or 180°. If the bass sounds weak, muddy, or unclear toggling the phase control may strengthen the bass attack.
Crossover: The PV500 has a built-in 24dB/octave low-pass crossover, continuously variable from 75Hz to 150Hz. This adjusts the upper end of the sub's frequency range. Boston includes a chart of recommended crossover settings for various Boston speakers the sub might be paired with.
Rubber Feet: Since the PV500 is downward firing it sits on four feet about 1 1/4" above the floor. Four adhesive backed rubber foot pads are included for use on a non carpeted floor.
Inputs
Line Level Inputs: The PV500 has gold-plated line level inputs for an LFE (Low Frequency Effects) channel and for a standard line level signal. The LFE output from a receiver is already crossed over so the sub's crossover is bypassed. When the standard line level input is used the signal is then fed to the PV500's crossover.
Speaker Inputs: This unit has left and right 5-way binding post speaker level inputs for connecting the subwoofer to a receiver without a line level subwoofer output. If bare wire is used, up to 12 gauge will fit through the post. When the speaker level inputs are used, the internal crossover cannot be bypassed.

Recently purchased this product. Outstanding is all I can say. This replaced a smaller Yamaha for my home theatre system. Works perfectly with my Infinity surrounds and Yamaha center channel.
