Overview: The Definitive Technology StudioMonitors are
compact bookshelf loudspeakers designed for use in audio/video entertainment
systems. Because the StudioMonitors are true full-range speakers with extended
low-frequency response they deliver superb performance both as stand-alone
speakers and when combined with separate subwoofers. Due to their compact size,
wide-range, high power handling, and natural articulate clarity, they are ideal
for use as front, center, or surround speakers in a home theater environment.
The StudioMonitor 350 loudspeakers feature a high-definition 5-1/4 inch
bass/midrange driver with cast magnesium basket pressure-coupled to a 8-inch low
bass radiator for outstanding bass response, and an annealed pure aluminum
1-inch dome tweeter for smooth highs. The StudioMonitor 350s use a non-resonant
monocoque cabinets featuring elegant piano-gloss black lacquer end cap and
wraparound grille cloth styling.

Driver Technology
Pressure Coupled Radiator Design: The StudioMonitor
bookshelf loudspeakers provide clear, high-definition sound by pressure-coupling
a 5-1/4 inch driver to an 8-inch low bass radiator cleverly placed on the side
of the speaker's cabinet. This technique increases the lower-midbass radiating
area of the speaker without increasing the size of the enclosure. The result is
a warm and life-like sound.
High-Definition Cast-Magnesium Basket Drivers: Each
StudioMonitor 350 utilizes a 5-1/4 inch high definition cast basket
bass/midrange driver for significant performance advantages in the areas of bass
reproduction, lifelike midrange clarity and dynamic range. This bass/midrange
driver incorporates a deeply drawn mineral-filled polymer cone, combined with
butyl rubber surround and dust-cap, a high temperature vented voice coil, and a
massive magnet structure. This combination of features assures high definition,
superb transient response, high efficiency, high power handling and extended
bass response. In addition, they are assembled utilizing an aerodynamically
designed, magnetically inert, cast-magnesium basket to minimize internal
reflections off the back of the cone and preserve structural and magnetic
integrity under all conditions.
Moving Coil Pure Aluminum Dome Tweeters: Each StudioMonitor
350 utilizes a specially annealed pure aluminum 1-inch dome tweeter, suspended
by a silk surround and acoustically loaded by a precisely configured phase
plug/lens, as well as engineered to assure perfectly controlled, linear
movement. This results in smooth extended response (beyond 30 kHz), greatly
reduced distortion, improved transient response, wider dispersion and notably
higher definition. Magnetic fluid damping is incorporated for ultra high power
handling.
Phase-Coherent Linkwitz-Riley Crossover Networks: The
sophisticated Linkwitz-Riley crossover network design used in the StudioMonitor
350s equalizes the drivers for linear phase and frequency response. This
preserves the phase coherence, transient response and dynamic integrity of the
signal for lifelike music and home theater reproduction in your home.
Break-In Period: The StudioMonitor loudspeakers will sound
good right out of the box; however, an extended break-in period of 20-40 hours
or more of playing is required to reach full performance capability. The
break-in period allows the suspensions to work in and results in full bass, a
more open midrange, and smoother high frequency reproduction.
Enclosure Design
Non-Resonant, Low-Diffraction Cabinet: The monocoque
cabinets are constructed of high-density medite with 1" thick front and rear
baffles, foam damping pads and internal braces. This virtually eliminates
resonant cabinet coloration which could otherwise interfere with the pure sound
produced by the high definition drivers. The design of the StudioMonitor's
cabinets reduce diffraction to an absolute minimum by flush mounting drivers on
extremely narrow baffles with radial edges, which are covered by a "frameless
grille sock".

Binding Posts: Each StudioMonitor 350 is equipped with a
pair of gold-plated, 5-way binding posts to attach your receiver's speaker wire.
Mounting Options
Placement: The StudioMonitor 350 loudspeakers are mirror
images of one another, with the side-mounted, pressure-coupled woofers located
on the opposite sides, so they may be set-up with both woofers facing in or both
woofers facing out. Facing the woofers in or out will vary the sound somewhat
and which way is best will vary with your room. The StudioMonitor 350
loudspeakers can also be position either vertically or horizontally. If it is
used horizontally, make sure the pressure-coupled woofer is facing up. There
should be at least 1 to 2-inches of clearance between the speaker's side-mounted
woofer and the wall.
Mounting: The StudioMonitor 350s can be simply placed on a
bookshelf, table-top, or speaker stand. They can also be hung on the wall using
the supplied keyhole brackets.
